I see a "Roadmap to Gold" is published, does that mean "learn by reading" will be part of gold? as this change few times in past, so anything can come back or will it still change going forward or uncertain. Do we lock features for A21 yet?

I'd say not, as the Learn by Reading system isn't listed on the roadmap.

Well... i have to star another controvesial topic because nothing happens here so...... - if trader will be more specialisted then.... it would force to just find every trader on map. So - a lot of time will be just wasted not traveling while traveling is pretty pointless now - in LBD times at least running make you character better

Not really. When you have done a certain amount of quests you get a special quest for opening a trade route. This route leads you to another trader. In the best case it is another trader. In the worst case, it's a clone of the current trader.

I mean if you wanted to min max every item you could from the trader sure but I don't think its 100% necessary.

My current map has 4 Hughs, 3 Rekts, and 2 Joels. No Bobs or Jens :(

Would having specialized traders guarantee there'd be at least one of each?

So that travel is not meaningless, the developers should add the ability to enable the mode "1 POI = 1 QUEST". I suggested this, but as always this idea was crap with words like if someone wants this, then he simply should not select those POIs that he has already completed (probably, you need to keep a list in a notebook) 🤡

Only 1 quest for a POI isn't going to work. There aren't enough POI with quests, especially at tier 5 for only doing one per POI.  You might get by at the lower tiers by running around the map, though that's a lot of running, but at least at tier 5, it won't work unless you want to do very little questing.

Not enough for what? Solutions of problems you described so lies on surface that I don’t even want to write all this for the tenth time

Besides if they have that (spoiler), if they assume that players can play however they want (make up any fancy restrictions in their head), then why can't they let us setting the game however we want at our own risk. Why can we choose 25% loot and 25% experience, super many zombies, we can even increase AI block damage, but why we cannot limit the number of available quests on the map? Exactly the same challenge. Objections that it will be boring or too hard apply exactly the same to the above settings. Why is it there then?

🤔 A cool down period that prevents a POI from being selected for quests might though. Maybe 7 game days? Depending on the distribution of the different POI levels it'd probably still run afoul those that like to blitz grind quests though.

It isn't possible for a game to add every possible setting that every player might want.  Developers will add settings that they feel (right it wrong) are wanted by most players.  This is the reason for mods... If the game doesn't give you the exact setting or gameplay you want, you mod it so it does.  You say that there are ways to deal with the issues I mentioned, but there are also ready ways to deal with what you mentioned.  There are a very limited number of POI that quests are for and you generally aren't going to keep doing low tier quests, so knowing what you've already done isn't that difficult.  I don't keep a list and yet I know what I've done by just watching the name of the POI each time I take a quest.  Maybe in a different town that uses the same POI, I might think I've done it but haven't in that specific town, but I'm also not trying to keep track.  It just happens automatically as I play.  This is a case where a mod is the way to go.  It is extremely unlikely they would add such a setting in vanilla.

This is actually an interesting idea and worth looking into, even as just a mod.  Though, again with tier 5 quests, you'd be limited to only a few tier 5 quests per week because that is usually all you have on the entire map.

How many game days does it take for you to do a clear of a tier 5? For me the "smaller" ones would take 1-2 if outside of the wasteland, a hard 2 if inside the wasteland because I'm not a fan of player triggered horde nights. (Wasteland nighttime instant respawn + screamer horde chains can get nuts). The towers were a 2 day minimum outside of the wasteland and a 4-6 game days if the tower was in a wasteland. To be fair, I tended to take my time finishing POIs and making sure I didn't miss anything so others might finish them faster.

Nope. Sometimes i need dunno - beaker, anoither time i need 1 weapon part before blood moon. So if you get trader with mostly food - it would be so useless

Well there is no POI connected treasure hunt - very good to get a lot of food and money. Plus if trader is 2,5 Km away - why to waist time just... going there? That's why i always make base close to trader - have time to make quest, looting and upgrading base

Roadmap to Gold are the minimum features that still need to be implemented before Gold. Learn by Reading is the planned final version for crafting recipe acquisition so it is unlikely to change. But who knows?

Learn by Reading is already listed as an implemented feature of A21. Hence, it is not listed on the roadmap of future features that still need to be implemented before gold. Learn by Reading is very likely going to be the final version of the crafting part of the game.

Not sure if appropriate for A21 discussions since it might not happen in A21 or at all, but is the (non?)issue of vehicles not keeping their momentum going to be changed, updated, or fixed? It's increasingly annoying, especially on the bicycle, to get up to speed with pedalling faster via Shift, and then immediately have all that progress lost when your stamina runs out. The bicycle returns almost immediately to its normal speed, when in real life and really any other vehicle-having game the momentum slowly drops over time.

If this is something easily fixable by messing with the .xml also please let me know because I will absolutely change it myself as a quick fix, since I know this is kind of niche and not something I've seen anyone else complain about, but yeah 😕

I've also seen some updates on new POIs, so POI builders, how's that going? Is there anything else that can be said about them, like what category of POIs are being made, or anything like that? And to the model-makers, how's the new glass blocks going? Have they been finalized yet? :)

So with all these new art assets coming, is there a chance we could ever get updated versions of the food/drink models? And maybe even some new animations for eating/drinking/reading/etc? And please tell me those old terrain decals finally got updated. Lol.

And also, is @madmolegonna share his experiences testing a21 anytime soon? Always enjoy his POV on the changes/new features.

I am not sure if Learn by Reading is good option, but it is changed quite a few time in past and really love to see it been fixed at least for few years before it is changed.

Just got done watching an interview with the developers talking in depth about the game and its future ambitions and I have to say,  I am very impressed. I think many games can have either devs out of touch with the game/player base or just simply not competent enough to make a game great. After listening to them talk for half an hour I have to say this game is in extremely good hands. I have nothing but great expectations for this game as it continues to grow. I think much of the player base who have grievances with many of the dev's decisions really dont understand what is truly best for themselves sometimes. I am super stoked for all these awesome changes in this thread and cant wait to see what else they add to the list. (LOVE THE WIRE CHANGE) Keep it up Pimps!

Did you change the percentage of terrain types vat generation? Certain traders used to be linked to certain biomes, don't know if it still is.

On my current map we fiddled with the terrain some, and we've currently found 2 Rekts in forest 1 in the Wasteland, 2 Joel in the forest, a Jen in the snow, and a Bob in the desert.

On a random gen map, traders can appear anywhere. When I started in A19, I had a random map - Hugh was in the desert, Joel and Jen were in the wasteland, Rekt was in the burnt forest and Bob was also in the forest.

I'd went with the defaults. I came across some wasteland (which I'd yet to have seen), and there was a Bob. 10 traders probably seems like too many, but I suppose there's enough separation that I can only do a circuit of 6 or so without really long rides.

Yes, completely agree. These animations are very outdated.

Looks silly no matter what you eat, it's always that nasty looking piece of meat or whatever it is.

Oh yes....and release Alpha 21 already!!!!!!!!!!! ........(Please) 😗

image.png.1e637fb2b8ac90eb00bf24d626cb21cb.pngwhy is there no Gila monsters in the game? Aren't they native to Arizona?

Imagine a mutated one of these coming at you......😬😱😵☠️
