I have to admit I never got how the modifier notation worked and after reading about it here I’m still not certain. Quite confusing.

there may be a need for a quick chat on 'multiply by -1' :D

Edit: sry, to quick to be clear. Meant Roland, the math teacher, might need to have a water cooler chat with someone about the power of Y x -1 ... ok, was funnier in me head 0_o

It shows you if the item you are mousing over is better or worse.

I think Gazz and us confused players are in violent agreement about how it should work. And I'm pretty sure TFP meant for green to mean "better" and red to mean "worse". Specifically, I think we all agree that if you mouse over non-worn/non-equipped item, seeing a green modifier in a stat means "this item you're mousing over is better for this stat than the similar item you're wearing or have equipped".

What perhaps Gazz doesn't realize, but the earlier images show, is that there seems to be a -1 multiplier being used (or needs to be). Additionally I think the code might be too-simplistically calculating <new item stat> - <worn item stat> and if result > zero then coloring it green without considering if the stat itself is a "positive" stat (armor rating) or a "negative" stat (stamina drain).

I definitely agree with most here that it doesn't seem like it's working well at the moment.

Anyone else find non horde night cops no longer a threat?

Can't put my finger on why though, but they're a LOT easier to kill now.

Also, they're entirely worthless for loot.

Yeah, they drop very easily. I do like how they changed the time to explosion, since I rarely got a kill on one before lol. But even on survivalist and even rad cops they die in a couple headshots with the AK (which, I think the AK needs a nerf, speaking of -- once you mod one a little bit and have Boom Headshot it's as if it's a nuke)

Since there's no point in them NOT killing themselves (no loot), I just aggro until they pop on their own.

@faatal

Welcome back hope you got some rest.

What determines if a player is "lit" for stealth purposes? Vanilla lights cause player visibility to rise, custom unity ones do not seem to.

Thanks!

The game just puts you behind the 8 ball from the start and keeps you there...you get high level zombies before you are ready for them, your base is destroyed by the hordes and you cant gather enough resources to maintain it.or even make items that will last longer...The grind..The player is much more handcuffed in A17 compared to A16. You are gated by level and perks....Trying to survive and being forced to use points, instead of a direction you want to go. You really cant create a builder or cook or healer until late stage because you have to put points in just to run around (STAMINA) or carry more ....you are encumbered by a feather , while carrying 3000 wood.

I did some testing with base design.2 people level 50 and 60..made a solid 5x5 concrete platform with iron bars around perimeter, one 5x5 pedestal same supplies, 5x5 table type, and a 5 x 5 below ground with bars overhead to kill the Zs...

NOTHING worked ...every base was demolished and breached. Im not saying to have inpenetrable bases early on ...but after a few horde nights any building you are held up in is destroyed. Not only that ...there is no way to defend yourself with arrows and a pistol and sniper rifle and survive. You dont have enough ammo, repair kits ...especially with greenies all over the place. Even the yellow loot bags dont last long enough through horde night to collect. They drop every 100 zombies or so and then they disappear before you can get to them.

I enjoy the game being harder, but impossible, isnt fun and i cant see new players coming in game and staying. The game FORCES you to play as a team now. You are overwhelmed with Zs in the Dungeon crawls...why not add in the old style buildings into the mixer. Why is EVERY building a crawl? Why does every building have 30 zombies in it?

Go ahead and tell me i dont like change...and all that crap....The game is whacked ...and after 18 months, i would of expected more and in better shape. You still cant figure out the temperature bull♥♥♥♥...2 steps forward and 5 alphas back. Stable was just to say they got it done before Christmas.

Regards

Ouch

THANK YOU!! Thank you.. x'{

I will admit to being confused as well.

At this point, I'd be happy with a smiley face next to the stat to tell me it's better then what I was currently using and a sad face for vice versa lol.... get to it modders!

I'd support special zeds like the cop to have a chance (not guaranteed like the old days) to drop an even better bag than the current yellow one.

I still remember the days we would catch a glimpse of a feral on horde night and would try to pull them away from the main horde to farm. 😅

The discussion says modifier for cloth are confusing. But as I understand I check total value shown in Player profile of heat and cold resist. if I get higher value after changing cloth I am good, if not I am not good. I simply ignore those red/green values as it confuse when we check other non clothing stuff. And I really hate how they make weather too extreme for newbie.

I once cross 5KM in game on day 1, and I know it is not fun..

I am going to have fun making tiny people hordes that jump and attack from across the room lmfao. That and Giant bosses. Surprisingly the hit detection works great on both small and large . Just gotta get reach and speeds figured out for turning and stuff. So damn funny. I love all the stuff that has been added into A17. I hope the Vehicles get more love as far as quality variances and being able to repair or put better quality parts(swap out). Hopefully the quality system in general gets more love.

This looks great!!! But please make gaint one powerful and harder to kill, but small one easy to kill. like with pipe bomb you can kill 100s of them easily :).

honestly i am enjoying this iteration.

day 11 or so on 120 minute days. yes 200% loot.

i want to try the mechanics not punish myself because balancing isnt perfect.

just got motorbike. level 50 something.

specialising in intellect ie 10. master chef 5. gives me top end crafting quality and workstations as soon as the gates allow. cant find beakers but thats a different story.

am managing what i mark as a benchmark each game day. which coincides with each non work day because, whats the phrase, real life.

only complaint is to go fast on bikes etc on controller you need to bloody push down on the stick all the time. please align that to the run style.

secondary skill branch fortitude to get living off land level 4 to see what mutated seeds do. also boosts health min.

i use firearms mostly but have no perks there yet. except 1 in headshot of course.

can craft lvl six shotguns now. most go down after three body shots. if i try real hard some go down with one to the head. no perks in shotties.

seems all good for a relaxing and enjoyable game that requires you to set your own mssions to get your own benchmarks.

today i needed 30 bones to make enough duct tape to make the motor bike. took time yes. for the session i had a purpose. i achieved that purpose and smashed a heap of zds.

isnt that what the game is about?

i think tfp are on the right track.

Hey, TFP, I have a great idea for how to make alpha 17 the best. Make it just like this. The systems these guys talk about, and the gameplay would make the best alpha ever.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZCXqoKSQ5c

The part that stands out to me is at like 1:33 or so https://youtu.be/aZCXqoKSQ5c?t=93 .. "Learn to hunt, trap and domesticate animals.." .. I've been talking up this idea for a while, this would be great. Give you something more to protect, and would have solved the bone/glue issue before "street meat" was a thing, which is still fine.

I tested the chainsaw on a couple of Zs, it is totally not worth using on Zs anymore. a Feral Lady vs level 80 with chainsaw = she gets you down from 160 to 30 before she dies.

a chainsaw should be a lot better at this, certainly better then a knife or machete. if you have not used a real chainsaw before, please go and try one. a REAL one at a logging camp or a Rancher.

I did some testing with base design.2 people level 50 and 60..made a solid 5x5 concrete platform with iron bars around perimeter, one 5x5 pedestal same supplies, 5x5 table type, and a 5 x 5 below ground with bars overhead to kill the Zs...

pick stone rubble house as your hord base. 2 or 3 block outside on road build row of 5 high cobblestone poles, 2 or 3 empty blocks in between each other. cover it with wooden bars and put woodspikes below. it is perfectly fine for first horde night. by second horde night you probably can upgrade most of those bars to iron. also some of pikes iron. if you stand above spike line, z rarely break any poles or wall. you can keep upgrading as time goes and add more traps in future.

I assume you put spikes and barbed wire around them? If not, that would be one reason why all of them failed

How long did each base design last before they got under it ? If it was 2 in-game hours, you just need 3 of them connected with bridges. If it was 3 hours, you just need two.

(And you can even mass produce lots of weaker pedestals. They don't have to withstand much, their purpose is to lead the zombies through lots more spike traps and barbed wire)

Ammunition may be a problem though in later stages. Do you have rad remover mod in your weapon? It might help a lot with the regenerating zombies to save ammunition.

i do it the same way. colored numbers are confusing and does not work for me. i do not use armor, unless it is at least t3 quality and i have mods to use with it.
