The security could be the simple, kill a 100 or so zombies in the area to get a limited no-zombie zone, for example. Mid-game - Your friends know of other like minded people, that are in more serious situations. The forming of your faction begins, not necessarily you being the leader ether. Requiring you to do deal with other factions of all kinds... one way or another... Late-game - Some over arching theme/conspiracy/plot begins to be revealed from what you learned mid-game. The safety of the entire area is put in jeopardy! Do you have what it takes to save everyone? End-game - I don't know if the game should end, but some kind of ultimate victory or defeat would probably be inevitable. The end game stuff needs to require vehicles. we are getting a bunch so they should be used for more than just loot storage. I also wonder what the gyro copter's fuel consumption will be, if it is too fuel efficient, then you could just fly around the entire horde night and not have to deal with crap, or just fly over a giant canyon and watch as the zeds fall like lemmings. It would make a fun "oh ♥♥♥♥" emergency escape though, like when the zeds break thorough your defenses at 1:30 in the morning so you need to escape. Maybe instead of an end game, it should be long term objectives that are fun. that is the problem with sand boxes, unless you like building random stuff, they get boring after a while. I think one neat option would be to set up research bases that last a week. You can not get near the researchers due to quarantine, but you still have to set them up and keep zombies away. These will need a safe helo pad and working power for their equipment. They will give you instructions for how the should be built, and you do the rest. You get a reward if they survive the week. I would also like some neater POIs, like poi's with non movable equipment like machine shops and other big work shops. once you hook up power to them you can work in them, but they generate tons of heat and the buildings are very hard to defend so you have to spend a lot of time making them safe to work/live. So you can make new guns at a machine shop, or car parts, but it takes a while and you will get bothered if you are not prepared. You either have to be at the machine, or an npc does, in order for the part to get made. But outside trying to build giant concrete towers, there really is no end game goal to keep me busy. I think we will not see resupply/escort/defense missions, since NPC's will not be in A17. I think it's mostly fetch-, and deliver-missions. For my first playthrough of A17, I give myself a 5% chance of death on the first horde night, doubling each week and a 25% chance to die in a POI miss-step each week. This is playing above ground, of course. I cant role-play spending all that effort digging unless I "heard rumors" that people die above ground at night. Do Not Hold Your Breathe, it could be later, August, September, Oct, Nov who knows it could be Jan, Feb. So doesn't look like it's set in stone yet. Which zombie type that digs, is not really a feature change/addition, so still fits with the feature freeze. (Just though I'd add that, to stop the floor).
