Yes, thank you and wish everyone a happy new year too! We are already screwing up the place here in Berlin. Unfortunately we can't blow up the Bundestag to send Merkel to hell, hahaha.

If it is not totally against the "basic game idea" I would like to see slot machines in 7D2D just like there are some in Borderlands 2.

One reel determines the type of item to win and the other reel determines it's colour/quality.

Slot machines could be fed with casino tokens.

For example you have a gun symbol and a green symbol what could lead to a hunting rifle with a quality level between 300 and 399 (set randomly). Or you have a tool symbol and get a nailgun with blue quality or something like that.

If a first aid cross appers you get a random healing item like antibiotics or a bullet symbol gives you a random type of ammunition like a set of 5 sniper bullets.

Those slot machines could be found at trader outposts or in bars.

It might be a cool thing for the thrill if there are no interesting offers made by the trader or you just like to gamble a bit. It could be a nice thing if a low level character got a steel pick axe as a reward for playing risky.

Sorry for my English. Greetings from Germany.

I would think a future alpha is going to give us Dukes Casino, similar to Mos Eisley- scum, villainy, etc. I'm hoping for slots, table games and strange characters that give you dodgy quests. And zombie Go-Go dancers in cages suspended from the ceiling. Hello, Nurse!

Your English is better than most of the native speakers on the forum. Greetings back to you from Oregon, USA.

Thanks, I appreciate that and hope you will have a great year 2018!

And I agree with your idea that TFP could work on more athmospheric locations like the named and described ones. For me it would be most important to have places like the bar scene you pointed out where you can meet "real" NPC's who give you quests or maybe trade with you. But of course with less offered items than the "official" traders have, maybe some bullets, some food or some seeds.

On the one hand a benefit was the fact that NPC's do not need to be controlled by an AI.

On the other hand the bandits for example will take a lot of time to be implemented in the game because they need to have a working AI to take cover, escape zombies or find routes into buildings which can change their shapes every moment due to the block building system which will be the hardest challenge for an AI.

We also experience permanently that the zombies in many cases are even unable to pass through doors right next to them or fail to jump on a single block.

I think it will take a while to get this working but your idea of well designed places with NPC's should not be a big issue for TFP. Let's hope the best!

Developer Diary: Alpha 17!!!

Did you sleep for a while 2 years or something????????

We are upto a20. Game going gold shortly........

WTF, i swear i played only a bit Empyrion and build a small base

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/920290360786114587/B969608506AD6331598A1331ACB991A65CC4A947/

btw a nice game too, can be very relaxing to build something and to know, "no zombie will ever come here"

Sadly this game is worse compared at the challenge 7d2d can offer.

But a few nice things are better than in 7D2D.

* Place rows of Blocks

* Blueprints (we maybe get in Future (i really hope))

* Build own Vehicles

* Ability to leave planet

The rest is not comparable or/but not better

It is theoretically possible to transfer a character to a new map/server but it's a huge can of worms because serves have different settings and mods.

As long as progression.xml is the same between them, it's usually ok. If that file is different, it won't work.

Not sure about inventory items, but I think once past the initial null ref error it should be fine after re-logging.

WTF

I really must know .. WHAT ARE YOU?!

You look like a Foogly from Spykids, but you're not. Or an animated piece of toast... PLEASE TELL ME!

Edit: You're burnt bread! But it's in German. I solved my burning questions.

The Blood Moon is a NEW FEATURE & some of us prefer the WANDERING HORDES to constantly building & repairing a base because of a predetermined game clock that constantly gives you bigger & bigger Hordes that will destroy your base even more every 7 Days.

I don't want to play like that! I want to have time to explore, build & survive on my terms & not the Game Clock making me run back & defend my base.

I fully agree. I request the menu option to toggle blood moons, screamers, and hitpoint bars on the zombies.

Also bring back the stupid hunger and thirst meters on the UI. I really don't want to have to install mods for something that basic and necessary. Oh, and the shotgun barely does any damage which is stupid. Even point blank in the head it basically just tickles the zombies, fix it. And quit nerfing the spikes, they suck enough as is.

Decent amount of people have wanted the hunger and thirst bar back for awhile, least what I've seen. I truly wish they made it something you can disable in the option menu.

Normal shotgun is fine, could use a slight damage buff with increased range. To balance it out make it to where you load more shells (currently drives me nuts because two shells and BAM you have 8) and have 6 in instead of 8. Trope i hate the most about shotguns in video games is almost all of them make the range crap, and the pellets become cotton balls 10 feet away. Sawed off though, that could use some work.

Spikes are effy, I spam and use the crap out of them but they are extremely expensive. Friends of mine who play only use wood log spikes since they are cheaper to repair and hardly touch spikes at all, some of em still use em though.

I don't know much about guns but the simple physics of shotgun spread means that the range of buckshot _is_ actually crap... the pellet can't damage something it doesn't hit.

The range of shotguns is probably nerfed in most games because the pvp maps aren't nearly as large as a real theater of operations. If enough games do this then it becomes the standard way of doing things.

There's also the problem of calculations per frame. Do you treat each pellet as a separate entity and have to calculate 27 physics objects per shot or do you cheat and nerf the damage over distance. Most programmers would choose the latter, it's far faster to calculate.

Yeah but games make it seem much worse, which isn't the case. Typically shotguns (not using slugs) are effective to almost 200 feet, so about 60 yards.

So i’m coming in late on the discussion but I really just stopped checking on development progress regularly since I don’t thunk this game will ever get finished.

...and that sentiment is well deserved after reading the original post. “Overhaul” the buff system, “Overhaul” the weapon system, “Overhaul”...

Overhaul? How about “finish” ANYTHING you EVER start? How many times have these things been overhauled already? Weapons, at least 3 times since A8 for example.

Great idea: how about you get a handle on the Attention Deficit Disorder and get the game running at a decent frame rate, stop stuff from randomly disappearing, crashes, lockups, add some content, and leave the major systems design alone?

Did you ever think that maybe doing an "overhaul" to existing system WOULD improve the games ability to run? And unless you don't know "Items" and "Buffs" are a vast part of the games system and affect large parts of the game itself.

You need to ask yourself "what does OVERHAUL mean?".

So yeah, I hope they continue to OVERHAUL systems that haven't been touched in a long ass time so they run better with all the other systems in the game so we get a much smoother experience AND frame rate. OVERHAUL!!!! *wink* *wink* *nod* *nod* ... overhaul
