John Wayne reference?

Now that TFP are finally working on Bandits, NPCs and eventually Factions, I was thinking if the name "The Duke" is a homage to John Wayne in any way.

It would be weird for this "title" to be associated with a bad guy... but you never know.

How did TFP choose The Duke nickname for the boss of the bandits?

Anyone else curious? :)

or the bad guy just took that moniker for himself because he sees himself as the good guy,

or, more likely, just because it is so iconic..

The Duke already had his name pre-apocalypse from his operations as the head of a mafia. That's why he already had a courier system in place and was ready to bring things under his control when law and order collapsed.

Or "we are game about zombie after nuke so we need a nick for bandit leader" "so Duke?" "why?" "well duke nukem"

That would make sense, he also had taken over the parking system and refurbished the meters to run on dukes. Probably a little less useful for money laundering that way, but eh, that's where the casinos come in.

You're not thinking like a crook. What you need is the Duke Transit Pass. $49.99 a year plus whatever parking charges you rack up.
