Yea i understand, but tha hell this is again the "alpha shield".
It's not hard to notify the user in the main screen to manually wipe data, and what data to wipe.
It's just lazyness and disrespectful of customers.

Dang that is way too bad, still havent tested vehicles as in my actual run (level 20 no int) ... in 20 days i could not find a single "forge" or "bench" recipe....

The devs are extremely out of touch with how these things are. I myself am 1048 hours in the game and I didn't know this since A16. Every other early access game I've ever played has never once forced the player to do this. It is purely their fault for giving no information to the player unless you hound the forums which is not how it should work.

 

The game should detect if the player has an upgraded version and recommend that we delete every file within the launcher, or have a script that does it automatically. It's a shame how buggy and volatile the files are. Every time I personally clean and reinstall a completely new bug appears but the older one isn't there.

 

I've even went out of my way to get a new drive to put the game on and I'm still always having the same generic issues. It's a real shame how buggy the game is and how poorly it can get handled.

 

It's still a fun game nonetheless, but I won't recommend it until it's out of early access. I can't imagine telling my friends to pay $30 for the game and then deal with every single hassle along the way that the volatile code offers.

I agree, on that, but i understand the fact that u can also play the version u like.
Automating such procedure could cause even a worst backlash, if they just notified that in the game main menu all users wouls have seen that information.

Actually there is some fun still there, but the good things added in the new version are totally destroyed by the bad things.

 

Sorry another fun fact.
After wiping data and restarting i re-configured my keybindings (as is utterly stupid wheel up -> item down and vice-versa)

Well after re-entering the game i've found all personal keybinds gone, i had to re configure everything from mouse sensitivity (way too high) to keys ....
Are u facing this issue ?
Not to mention the game crashes 15% of the times i try to load a savegame.

Do you realize that not all players do that, they hit play on steam and just play the game?
You cannot pretend all players to read stuff online, even if official.

An important information should always be in the most viewed place. It's common sense.
It takes litteraly no time to add a message box in the main menu (the right place to put critical information).
Devs can also use such panel to display more info or notes for the players so who does not follow the forum or the dev page will be informed about critical stuff.

People not reading the information presented is not new.

I've people not even read what is on the screen during installation.   (or error messages)

So even having it show the link/info doesn't mean people will read it. (many will not)

 

I suppose they could put something for first launch with "Did you delete/clean the old data via... bladeeblah",

(I'd put that in, with a followup of "Are you sure?  Just checkin ya know. Baaad things will happen if ya didn't!")

 

(actually, that would be hilarious if they did put that in. Have the screamer lookin at ya...  heh)

 

When a new major alpha comes out,  pretty much always wipe the data.

(personally, I just rename the game folder, and copy the savegames out.  Makes it easier to go back to an older alpha.

I still go back to 16.4 and my 8km tunnels from time to time)   :D

 

RNG btw, is really really brutal this alpha.  The R is really, really random.

Kinda how in 16, one game it's day 50 and no minibike book, make a new game, and it's in the first trashpile you loot. hrmph!  😛

I have to agree generally. Failure management and error correction (in other words the boring stuff) seems to have been neglected somewhat. It should not be necessary to manually delete old generated worlds when those worlds already have versioning information in them.

 

I don't agree that A20's new features are garbage or that the changes (for example to farming) are bad, but that has been already discussed in other threads. With all the technical problems you had I would also say that you didn't have the time to really try them out and give them a chance.

The fact of the matter is people just don't read. When I was an SA I could put announcements up in big bold flashing red letters that you had to click ok to get rid of and I would still get the "well nobody told me the system was going down"

Like a big alert popup in the main application page.

And yes RNG is pretty broken in this version. I fear something is not quite right with seeds.

I think that communication is fundamental. That will help alot not too see such arguments any more.
But i also understand why there is a manual data-wipe, knowing about such thing will help alot.

Not all A20 features are that bad, some are really cool (as shown in the screen below).
But Pipe baton is terrible, whoever though about that kind of weapon clearly knows nothing about weapons and fighting. 
The pipe shotty is useless, why didn't u made a double barrel shotty is beyond me, and the reload animation is painfully slow making such weapon pretty useless.
The pipe pistol suffers the same problem about the reload animation.
The pipe machinegun is way too op, and makes the ak useless (1 pipe and u r repaired ... more less same damage) Why didn't u made the pipe machinegun .... an semi-automatic smg (u know automatic weaps are really hard to make)

The companion dron is 100% pointless, flyng around hiding ur visual ... for what ? ... that drone should not exists in this game.

The new building integrity is just terrible, if 1 ledge breaks all the building collapses.... why ? Just propagate the collapse on "red/orange" integrity voxels ... and not through all the building. 

Farming ... who the hell decided the new farming system ?
U know irl u plant a seed and IF it sprouts ... u will grow a plant capable of generating tons of fruis / veggies with tons of seeds!!!
from 1 seed u can grow a farm if u have enough time.
And there is no such thing as a "potato seed".

Should i go on with the list of "not good new features" ?

And here is the promised screen, the new skin lighting system at it's best (don get me wrong the idea is cool, but u have more important stuff to fix before those worthless aestethics)

There is  literally a box that opens with the option to Play the Game or Run the Launcher EVERYTIME you launch the game.

I get that question to start the launcher every time. But I don't know if this is happening to everyone, I am on a different operating system and I think I have seen someone else not getting this question pop-up on Windows. It may have something to do with old settings in the registry maybe

It's a Tonfa, it is an actual weapon. Just a pipe aesthetic of it. Also used by modern law enforcement in places. But it's everyone else who doesn't know weapons.

Kinda the point of the pipe weapons, to be useless. Double barrel is still in game, just the next tier.. "why not the first tier?" because this is a copy-paste of the blunderbuss which had its functionality pretty balanced already.

Sounds good.. add a 40-90 day growth cycle depending on plant and we're getting close. Some seasonality and pests and such still required.

If you start the game from the Steam main interface "Play" button, you get the launcher option every time. However, if start it by using the list of recently played games by right-clicking the Steam tray icon, it goes straight into the game. I used to use that method to start a lot of games but the same thing happens with other games that have start options and sometimes I need the start-up choices (ie, starting Ark with or without anti-cheat depending on server, etc) so I broke the habit of using that.

Ah, thanks. On my computer there is no list of recently played games accesible from the tray icon, either a fundamental difference or maybe a specific setting in the options.

And regarding the SI issue, I'm not aware that there has been a change in how collapsing works. But there seems to be a bug that makes buildings collapse even though they are structurally sound because updates to SI sometimes don't register

1 yes i prefere not to talk with ppl that cannot se the point. Simple.
2 yes maybe some configuration issue or difference, that's is why "put the message in the main page of the game" is the perfect place, every player will get that, no excuses whatsoever then.

100% disagree with u on mostly all of your points.

 

1 - the weap is of course in use with law enforcement... but they use a well crafted "baton" not a crappy pipe assembly that is totally unreliable. And they dont use it like u see in the game either. A simple ppipe "stick" would have been simpler to design and animate correctly.
Have u ever used one of those, or a stick or a weapon in general ?  (i'm curious)

2 - if they r useless why invest time on that ? It's a waste of time / money and player time.  U see u contradict yourself at every step u fall even on your own logic.

3 - so it' just a lazy remodel and add re-animate and paste over of the good "buss" so -> totally worthless.

4 - not even commenting on that one, as that sentence is as meaningful as a pipe baton

I tested some building collpase in CM .... and it's terrible, i had to do that, cause in a real run a had a building to collapse 10 mins b4 the horde only for removing 1 block from a well supported bridge
That building was well supported on 4 pillars and a house.... so i went to test and every time i did the same, the building collpased cause of the collapse of the "bridge" for ... reasons.
Maybe i will produce a video about that if i will have time.

Hey, we're keyboard warrioring here, I can tell you with confidentiatility that I have over 300 confirmed kills, am a member of an elite trained SEAL group and.. no I'm not going to the death threat portions of that particular meme, you might get offended.. :) A little more seriously, yeh, I've trained a few different types of sticks, bo, jo, kali sticks etc, among with a few other weaponry analogues. Makes absolutely no difference though.. the pipe baton is just a game version of an actual weapon, pretty much like every other weapon in the game.. none of them are real nor functional.

Indeed. I don't invest in them. But there's an actual argument to be made, instead of just telling TFP to discard couple decades of labor because you don't like the current iteration.

Indeed, the pipe weapons are weak enough to be considered rather useless. The main thing they do offer for anyone competent is a slight ability for burst damage when useful. Turn a 3v1 to a 2v1, one shotgun shell is plenty for that.

If something is bad ... is bad ... and if it does not work, yes trash it and start over.
Sometimes happens and realizing a mistake is not a bad thing.

Indeed, the pipe weapons are weak enough to be considered rather useless. The main thing they do offer for anyone competent is a slight ability for burst damage when useful. Turn a 3v1 to a 2v1, one shotgun shell is plenty for that.

Stop trying to crawl on mirrors. If an item is useless, there not even little use as u pretend convince yourself.

The animation could be improved, sure, but the swings taken aren't exactly impossible. The "spin around the handle" is silly, more of a provocation than anything else, but hey, it's a game. Calling it trash and commanding a redo without any input on what or how to improve isn't exactly helpful though.

They are intentionally "useless"; as in, they're designed Not to be your main weapon. No matter how much you try to convince yourself that removing a head from a zombie isn't useful, the reality will disagree.

No, no, MY article is the actual word of God, yours is just some pagan worshipping troll propaganda. Or, like I said, the normal way to farm spuds is via clones, but the plant indeed does produce seeds. Just because you can't be arsed to read anything, doesn't mean you're right... :)

It is up to TFP how long they want to be in Alpha.  We purchased the game knowing it was in Alpha with no released date stated; but they have constantly updated the game since 2013 and pushing for final release after a few more development cycles.  While it has been a long time, 3k+ hours means it has been money well spent on my part.

 

As theFlu mentioned, using pipe weapons have benefits in the early game.  Having a pipe pistol on my toolbelt allowed me to unload into a zombie when I was low on health and waiting on stamina to recharge.  It was the only thing that saved me at that point.

 

Just because some people find them useless doesn't make it universal.  I been enjoying having those pipe weapons early game to use the ammo I have been finding to get out of sticky situations.  If you don't want the pipe weapons, journey into the harder biomes to get your loot stage to jump up faster and you will start to find T1 weapons.
