So it's not just me then. I was thinking If the radius was halved, then it would still almost be too much. For me, 20 meters from a fight and you should get something.

Actually, I was thinking of the opposite. The group I play with would like to increase that radius to cover the whole map; so that when one of us is sent out to hunt, one of us stays at the base building, and one of us has gone into the town to scavenge for things, we still share the xp we get for doing those different activities.

Currently - and this may improve as balance is tweaked - if you split up and specialise in different activities then you get quite wildly different amounts of experience. It will be nice to all share xp all the time regardless of what we're doing and where we are and therefore be able to let everyone do the activity they enjoy the most without worrying about us all leveling at different rates.

The Wanderer's METAGAME

So there's a map decrease of 33%, instead of 20%. That's a mighty cut. I sincerely hope that the map is filled better in A17 then. Because I already had major zones of the void realm in A16. Can't comment on whether I'd prefer the bigger map over some better performance issues. Unless we're getting way more zombies now as well.

crossing my fingers

Size does not matter

For my last couple of playthroughs I did not explore further than 2 or 3 local cities. :D

I dump all my points in SCAVENGER and QUALITY JOE (which get maxed out by week 2) and by settling near a large town I get everything purple by week 5. All I do is turtle.

If °TFP° destroy my META game of maxing scaving/Quality Joe by either removing it or NERFing it, then I may be forced to explore and expand more, because all of my closest POI's and towns will be long depleted before I start finding remotely good items.

Have You thought about a "Scrounger" perk a lن Fallout? You don't get better quality items, just quantity.

If you get "good" large cities, then indeed 3-4 will get you with supplies needed. But with 5+ players near eachother, that amount is already 20+ cities. If smaller map means more densely packed POI's / towns etc. Then it's fine. Then depending on respawn timer you need that many cities. Other wise you'll run out of paper for shotgun shells // brass for bullets etc.

Devs could finally make brass / paper somewhat more durable to farm in other ways. Brass as off now is rarest thing in game.

+1 for the scrounger perk idea. Getting more paper, more brass etc. is a VERY good way to counter these things.

I forgot to mention, that we [Comunity of 8] play only PVE, and that I am able to equip them with decent Tools/Weapons by maxing out Scaving early on and they In-turn back me up with items from other specialities.

Since the Scavenging/Quality Joe combo arrived and the "The more You make tools, the better they become" dissappeared in favor of "I dig holes to be a chemist" nonsense. The loot quality has been all over the place.

As an idea I always liked how Borderlands approached the matter :

[Example in 7 Days To Die-ish]

If im under level 10 I have the following chances:

100% chance of the item being White

20% chance of the item being Orange

10% chance of the item being Green

5% chance of the item being Blue

1% Chance chance of the item being Purple

If I'm under level 20 I have the following chances:

100% chance of the item being White

100% chance of the item being Orange

50% chance of the item being Green

10% chance of the item being Blue

5% Chance chance of the item being Purple

... Well something like that.

Otherwise people who smartly invest in making tools, weapons by themselves can get steam-rolled by Scavenging boosting raiders.

Some mods countered the brass deficits by adding a Brass doorknob each time You smash a door down. Books where a awesome output of paper - too bad they got scrapped.

I thought that he said you can only pause the game if you are the only one in the game. If you have another person in game you can't pause and come back to 3. You can go afk and come back to 3 or more people.

As far as map size. Yes it is good little chunk getting taken out but it isn't that much at the same time. The way a few people have worded it is like the maps are only going to have 4 towns or 10 towns. The size of the map is still bigger then console has and console only gets 12 towns on a good seed. Most seeds have 8 give or take. Don't get that wrong not comparing just trying to give a example. So the map size is still pretty big and plenty of towns will still spawn. Based on what was said the number could even go up more. Lets say right now the way it is. You pull a seed up and let's say this seed has 80 towns on it. You shrink that seed down to what they said. On the new side of the red zone where you did have map but don't anymore you have 15 towns on the other side that you lost. But they said they was going to compress things more so we get more so basically those 15 towns that hot cut out from what you had are now placed in other spots that on the map that didn't have towns. This might not be the best example and I'm sure more details to it but you basically should understand a little of it. At least this is what I got out of it. Minus those few other details that not in this.

I've never managed to fully explore a rwg map myself anyway so the size diff is not going to bother me. What does bother me is the skill system, I mostly play the game solo, and this sounds like its going to really hurt single players. Maybe make leveling have a "softcap" where once you hit it, each exp level you get after is only 1 skill point? IMO a player should be allowed to get all the perks if they play long enough, just make it take a stupidly high level to pull it off. This way, it still matters until late endgame what you choose.

I agree.

I agree.

They feel that we should make choices then the next time we play we can play a different way and make another choice. A way to reset character would be nice without doing a command or editing XML files. But to unlock everything and be a master at everything I can see where they don't want that for the base game.

Remember they are not stopping people you can always mod it to where you 100% every perk/skill.

The brass doorknob idea is great. There should be more stuff in POIs to scavenge and get brass from, like pipes, lamps and such.

I wonder if they'll ever add some rare and unique weapons and gear that gets randomized stats wise like RWG does. I'm not talking about white, purple colored weapons/gear, but a more unique approach to loot that you could get from quests and horde nights/bandit encounters. Would make scavenging more fun and worthwile.

The only problem with this is for people like me that like to put hundreds of hours into a single playthrough and wont start another game until the next alpha is released. So for people like me i'll never be able to use a lot of the perks as i'll reach the level cap in my playthrough and then be stuck only using pistols etc, which kinda sucks.

Like you say though we can edit the game files, but i always feel like i'm cheating when doing that. I like the idea of being able to respec, or just making levelling slow down a lot in the late game. That would be ideal for someone like me as I'll always be working slowly toward the next perk.
