Medieval Times?

I'm humoring the idea of making a medieval themed mod. Though to do so I would need new prefabs. However I know nothing about prefabbing. Should I decide to try this out would there be anyone who would be willing to assist me by providing prefab work?

 

 

If you're interested please feel free to build a prefab in a save game and send me the file so t hat it can be included. These can be vanilla but I have added a ton of new building blocks specifically for this theme.

Seems like someone started this around a11 or a12 and then I lost track of it. Would be very interesting. I love making castles.

But I didn't worked on it for a long time. Could help a bit, but at the moment all my time goes into the headbangers mod

Sadly I don't think I can make a sod wedge. Shapes don't appear to work on terrain blocks. :(

 

 

Stompy I was hoping you'd offer assistance. I know jack-all about adding prefabs or modding the rwgmixer which would definitely be needed for such a mod lol.

 

 

Pacco as always I love your new textures. Though that goes outside what I'd be willing to play with or make myself. I don't use SD2DX and only use XML mods.

 

 

The help I'd need would be basically anything involving prefabs and rwgmixer. The rest I should be able to take care of myself. But a medieval centric mod isn't going to really work right if shopping malls and bookstores are spawning everywhere :). Need small hamlets, sod cottages, log cabins, castles, jadda jadda. Big job I know. Though its important to know ones limits. A builder I am not. It'd have to outsource this. Sounds to me that it would be a fun project to make and play though which I why I'm hoping to find interested partners.

I'm more comfortable with the xml files. More compatibility, easier use. At least for me. Nothing against those who use SD2DX - acknowledge the talent and skill that goes into so things and can appreciate that. Just isn't for me.

 

 

Besides, it is the scrubs that allow people to appreciate the beauty in flowers. The more scrubs you have the more unique the rose that stands out above them all. I'll happily stay with being a scrub in the shadow of the garden. There's enough sunlight to go around.

Well I'm planning on making my medievil mod with sdx. Any Idea when it will drop? I have messed with the sd2dx a bit and I'm very excited to try the new version as I don't want to keep messing with alpha 12 stuff. There is too much to be done with alpha 13 for this mod in the xmls.

 

@Val. I will be making all new prefabs and could share a few if you like. But this is going to be a huge project over a long period. I'm not sure at what stage I will get around to the prefabs.

I got here a A12-castle from very old alpha-times.

 

Didnt repaired it all the times.

 

Pacco's Castle I also have here. It looks really cool. But its also not converted to A13 !!!

 

I can repair them if u serious with the mod and if Pacco give the permission to do it on his.

 

But my project needs also alot of work and love - so I can't go really further right now.

Iam on the work - but i need a part of the editor added/fixed.

I wrote Hal for that reason.

Iam sure its make-/fixable - and then i continue repairing the castles.

 

You know how quick Hal is usually - so its perhaps done quite soon :)

I think it can be done. Won't be as awesome as having all new models, sure, but it will be "good enough" for my tastes and have a much larger compatibility.

Well, it's not like they had a lot of materials to work with back then; sod (thatch), wood and stone (cobble, maybe some brick, and of course actual stone) so I more or less agree. The issue is going to be, that the environment will be stale without variety.

 

Easiest way to build a prefab? In game, then export it to the editor. Just saying... it's the way you'll be familiar with, and it's how I do it. Granted, I do the tedious work in the editor first (laying out say a 200x400 block of asphalt is easier in the editor), but you won't be doing that kind of thing for castles and whatnot, considering that most of them use the surrounding natural terrain.

 

My /suggestion/ though is don't worry so much on the big prefabs, DO worry about the small ones, because those are what will make or break the sincerity of your world. Having a variety of shacks, stores, cobblestone roads, etc.

 

And if you REALLY don't want to mess with the editor at all? Do it in game, then send someone the save game, so they can export it.

 

But, visit the "So you want to build a prefab" thread, it's hella easy once you do it a few times.

 

(hm, now I want to build a castle. :))

Hey Guppy. Thanks for the suggestions.

 

I don't mind messing with the Prefab editor, if thats what you mean. Its SD2DX/asset modding that I don't want to get involved with.

 

I will be trying to building some things in creative and export them with Hal's tool. That bit, honestly, I'm not all that worried about. That much I /think/ I can handle. At least, the export bit anyway. Actually building things? Oh boy. Thats a challenge to me since I'm not creative or a good builder. However even that isn't my biggest concern since I do have some friends who ARE good builders and can make some pretty stuff.

 

My issue is that I know nothing about the rwgmixer which is, from what I understand, very important to adding the custom prefabs to the world. This would primarily what I would need assistance with, even if I had the prefabs all saved up and ready I still wouldn't know how to actually add them to the world.

Well, not like there aren't plenty of people who will help you out. :)

 

I'm with you on the sd2dxyzpdq thing; it's a great tool, but once modding is officially supported won't likely be necessary (but what do I know, I literally make this stuff up as I type!) so at this stage, making it easier for clients to join is best IMO.

 

Not to knock the sd2etcetc users, those guys are popping out some amazing things. I lurk, what can I say.

 

Well, best of luck, and if I make a castle (and I'm pretty sure at this point I will) I'm happy to send one your way.
