I've never posted this sort of thing before, but it looks like it's not considered rude, so I'm gonna risk it.  I'm guessing there are going to be a great deal more construction objects added to the game before it's complete, but I would like to humbly request something, O Pimps:

    More Fancy Stuff.

I love building Victorian and gothic bases, and I would love to see more items I can add to my pointlessly elaborate buildings.  Antique couches, grandfather clocks, end tables with gas lamps, candelabra, nice wooden chairs, heavy curtains, balloon chairs, more colors of shutters, that kind of thing.  More than anything, I wish there were a dark wood texture other than the crown molding, the striations of which make it a little weird to apply to walls and floors.  I beg you for mahogany.  Ooo, and are you perhaps going to update the models for the lamps that can be accessed in creative mode?  I love that I can change the color and make them flicker, but the model stubbornly continues to look like it has a white bulb in it.  These things I beseech.

I feel like I'm acting terribly entitled right now.  Apologies.

    #mahogany

That sounds like the stuff you'd put in a "Decorator DLC"!

I think the problem people has is that TFP themselves are extremely disorganized, which is why it has taken them so long to finish the game.

Throughout the years we have seen features implemented, then taken out later on.  The one thats most prominent was the option to find better quality gun parts (up to 600) and install them onto the respective gun.  You could literally play hundreds of hours and still find parts to upgrade your favorite gun....removed in place of a 1-6 quality system with no more gun parts...why?  That was hours and hours of development time wasted and hours and hours of fun and progression sucked out of the game....looting is virtually unrewarding now because you never have that "I think this is a better part than I already have!", especially since I have found quality 6 weapons pretty often on the very first day.

There were some features they tried that I'm glad WAS removed, such as trees killing you when they fell (I died plenty of times because a tree started falling my way and barely touched my hitbox, obviously wasn't play-tested by the devs before release), but still, they had a massive influx of negativity towards that feature and it still took them MONTHS to remove it, even though its as simple as disabling collisions between trees and players and push a small update.

And yeah, you would have a valid argument if you said that they need to test things to see if the public likes it, but that argument is moot since they never even had a road-map to go on, seems they were just winging it every step of the way, and that causes production delays and wasted time and money.  Having a plan is literally the very first step of making a game...even if that plan changes here and there, you have a set goal.  These people don't have a goal, they use "early access" as their excuse for poor organization, bugs, messy coding and poor optimization, because they know that as long as its in early access they're always going to have those people that defends them no matter how much they suck.

Also, I'm not sure where you found that TFP has over 50 employees, I checked around 10-15 business sites and they all list them currently as having "< 25 employees".

    Also, last thing...

I'm a Unity programmer, and I could make a game, exactly like 7DtD with all of its "complicated systems"(which isn't complicated at all), within a few months.  By myself.

It's not hard to make a game if you know what you're doing.  This is what the road map would have been good for, we could have been roughly at the point where we are now in 2014 if they had a road map and followed it.

I won't reply to this guy, since that's not the place to start such long-winded discussions... but he made me think: how can anyone make such foolish statements? :frusty:

As far as I can remember, last time they answered this question, it was the latter.

A controversial statement. There are people who do not know about the existence of bags, and there are people who know about them, but never use them.I belong to the second group. It has always been easier for me to pump the mule at the beginning of the game and forget about the penalty for overloading.Even when playing with 25% experience, I did the same.Triple pockets are not available from the very beginning of the game and while I was trying to collect them all, I would have pumped the power for 5 and a mule many times already. Here the conversation is more about who prefers what style of play.Even if in some kind of survival I ignore the branch of power, I prefer to use steroids and use bags only if they are accidentally I find it.Bags are not convenient for me.

The point I was refuting was not about "play style". @Uncle Al was saying that there are currently no skills/perks that become totally redundant late game.

I was arguing that Pack Mule becomes totally redundant IF (and only IF) you choose to use all triple pocket mods in your gear. There's no implication about what's better, more efficient or smarter. It's just a simple statement about the effect of using full pocket mods vs. using the perk, which IMO proves that PM can become totally redundant (again) late game.

10 hours ago, Uncle Al said:

Pack mule still has some value as it allows you to use additional armour mods instead of having to use up a slot in each piece of gear with a pocket mod.

When you're late game, and have all Q6 armor, there's plenty of space for mods.

You may have a point only with Heavy Armor, but with lighter armor you don't need as many mods to compensate noise/stamina.

10 hours ago, Uncle Al said:

Well insulated allows you to wear a college jacket for a speed buff instead of a duster/puffer jacket in inhospitable climates.

That's your choice IF you choose speed, but that doesn't refute my point that Well Insulated can get totally redundant IF you choose the best clothing.

On top of that, you can also find enough space to put insulation mods in your gear.

But again, this is just an exercise in game logic... and it's frankly pointless.

We need to wait and see how they'll balance out the perk system vs. all the changes they're introducing into A21.

  7. 14 minutes ago, Uncle Al said:

Being able to craft Q6 if you've already got a Q6 drop isn't a huge advantage

I'd say, it's no advantage at all... unless they make crafted items better than drops.

19 minutes ago, Uncle Al said:

but you can still use the parts you find to craft more Q6 items and hope for a better stats roll. You're getting a little something for your effort. Not much, but a little. It also means parts are still mildly useful drops into end game. That feels way better than 'crafting is totally irrelevant now, never open that page again'

Again, that's IF they make crafted items better than the looted ones. But even then, you'd have a win only for the "crafters", because for the "looters" it would spoil the thrill of finding that coveted Q6 item in loot. The only way I see parts being useful, is if, like someone said, they reintroduce item degradation and the "repair with parts" mechanics.

20 minutes ago, Uncle Al said:

I disagree.  There are things that get less useful late game, but very few things become totally redundant. This seems to be a conscious design decision. I'm really happy about that but that's a personal preference, as I hate heavily enforced early/late power curve systems. I appreciate why they exist but I personally don't like them.

I can respect that. But there are already things that become totally redundant late game.

A couple of ones that come to my mind are:

    1. The Pack Mule perk, which becomes useless as soon as you fill in all mod slots with triple pockets.
    2. The Well Insulated perk, which is useless as soon as you find the best clothing in the game.
    3. The Grease Monkey perk, which is also redundant as soon as you already have built or bought the vehicles you need.

I'll give you that we expect TFP to rebalance some of those perks in A21, so we'll see how that works.

But in general, the concept of something becoming totally redundant into late game is not foreign at all in 7D2D.

On top of that, as I mentioned before, some of my examples are of perks, which means skill points that you had to invest.

While in your example, the "wasted time" you speak of when having to hunt for magazines, is just normal gameplay IMO... in that specific period of time you needed to craft better gear, so, in my book, is not wasted time at all, since you earned the better quality stuff you needed at the time.

While we are talking about seemingly unfair moderator decisions like banning users on steam:

Imagine a world where the law had only the death sentence as instrument for punishment. So they would have to not only apply that to murder but to lots of felonies as well. And the courts would have to find very squishy rules when to apply death sentence or let someone simply go. So lets say someone robbing 2 houses would still get the benefit of the doubt but someone robbing 8 houses would get the death sentence on the vague principle that he is a hardened criminal and serial offender past redemption. To someone getting robbed by one of them those numbers would sound rather arbitrary and they wouldn't see a principal difference between both offenders.

Getting back to moderation on steam, make a list of insults. Then try to judge which of these should get a ban (call them red insults) and which do not (call them yellow insults). Its damn difficult to make that list. And someone using an insult on the red list getting a ban could find it very unfair if someone else using a word on the yellow lists gets nothing or a simple word of warning.

And even that is simplyfing things because someone stringing two yellow insults in consecutive posts should probably be banned even though someone using the word only once gets off free.

Please! PLEASE!! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!  Can we commute to life in prison? :ballchain:

Without that, however shiny our new toy is, the entire tool/weapon/armour half of the system just becomes redundant as soon as Q6 gear becomes available. That seems like a terrible shame.

Well, considering you didn't waste a single skill/perk point on it, it's not a big deal anyway.

Many things that are essential early game, become obsolete at a later stage. I see no difference here (again, consider the above).

Since you leveled skills by doing them (or spending points that you gained by mining) you were able to craft anything you needed, and if you REALLY wanted, you could go to the trader and stock up.

This is LBD nostalgia. LBD is gone, is never coming back and was never meant to stay. It was a temporary solution to leveling while they were cooking the current system.

As long as people keep pushing for LBD to come back, they'll always be disappointed with the current game.

    11 hours ago, Viktoriusiii said:

Nowadays with the uncraftable items and weapon/Armorparts, this has become really hard, but still possible, because you can still buy the tools you need from ressources you mined. And since you unlock items via leveling, you can simply spend your skillpoints there.

Ok, so you play your games without looting at all? I mean, even if you can learn how to craft (i.e.) a Steel Axe, where do you get your steel?

You'll need a crucible. Where do you get it? The only option would be a very lucky dice roll with the trader, otherwise you'll need to dismantle streetlights and such or loot.

I can't understand if this some kind of tenant or what... why can't you do a little bit of exploration or looting?

Are you jimping yourself on purpose just to prove a point? :suspicious:

  11. 6 hours ago, Viktoriusiii said:

Then you (latter) said that this is just what it is and that looting is the core gameplay and if you don't like it, you should just leave.

I only play SP, so, from my perspective, you simply can't play without doing any looting.

Give me one example, just one, of someone playing the game in single player (even in A20), who can just focus on building, farming, or mining and ignore looting.

There's no "just leave" there, I'm just stating a fact, I'm not trying to impose something or be rude... that's just how the game plays in single player.

So, yeah, in a non-rude but blunt way, I'm kind of saying "get over it". There's no other way to play the game in SP.

As for multiplayer, I already explained that IMO you just need someone else to focus on crafting.

That person will get all the magazines from the other members of the group who go looting, or buy them from a trader or get them as quest rewards.

Then, the other more "sedentary" players, can focus on mining, building or farming all they want.

    Congratulations - that's a fallacy.

I understand @Viktoriusiii's question 100%. They said builders, miners, and farmers.

None of these things produce jeeps, AK47's, or chemistry benches. Or any of the other things that are outside the activities where looting is not required.

I wish people would be addressed honestly on this forum instead of being willfully or ignorantly misrepresented.

I wish people on this forum would be addressed properly and not called dishonest because the other part does not share the same opinion.

If you're implying that Builders, Miners and Farmers don't need to learn to craft in MP, well, that's up to them.

They can completely ignore the crafting aspect of the game and do what they do. Somebody else in the group will take the "crafter role", I suppose.

If they come here with youcantgetridofme's attitude, then you're right, they better stay home. I don't see any politeness or willingness to have a conversation on their side. I only see snarky remarks on the devs, the game, and this community. What would you do if someone came to your home and started shouting and insulting everyone? Would you be welcoming?

  14. 2 minutes ago, Viktoriusiii said:

    Question:
This whole new "learning by looting" sounds nice... I mean it is just a learning by doing with extra steps, but worse... but I take what I can get...

    The question:
What do ppl do that don't go looting?

Farmers, miners, builders, and so on?
Are they just... @%$#ed until their mates bring them back the books they need?

This has already been answered several times... basically, looting and exploring is an integral (core) part of the game.

If someone wants to play by staying in one location all the time while at the same time they want to earn everything the game has to offer, well, this is not the "right game".

I don't mean to be rude or attack your question, mind you, but it's just like someone playing a First-Person Shooter asking: "And what happens to the people who don't want to use weapons?" ... Well, they die! :ohwell:
