Ok here's my first shot at it. Tell me what you think.

 

Poisonous Bites and Stings

 

Snake Bite -

  • ON HIT-20hp & -20 Stamina & Get a Limp fades in 5 min
  • Stage #1 Debuff +5 Temp & -10 Stamina per 5 sec & -.1 Wellness per 5 min & 5% Speed Reduction min last 30 min
  • Stage 2 Debuff +15 Temp & -15 Stamina per 5 sec & -.2 Wellness per 5 min & 10% Speed Reduction last 1 hour
    • Pain Debuff (is removed with painkillers)

    A stacking buff that cools you by -3 & +1 Hydration every time you eat a snowball and it refreshes a 3 min buff timer

     

    Stims lessen Splint and Broken legs slowing effects

(Follows something almost as bad as death, but not actually death)

 

Sounds hardcore, punishing, but yet... very much survivable if you don't get lucky enough to find a cure. I'm okay with this.

 

I would have all the final effects fade eventually, too. Especially the severe fever. It's already basically forcing you to leave the Desert with a +35 Core Temp modifier, no sense sending the player to the other extreme to freeze to death just to cure a fever. Sure, he COULD do that, but maybe if he waits 2 game days, or something, that, too, should fade.

 

Ideally, I think, the poisoning should be something that COULD kill you, that might GET you killed, but ultimately does not directly KILL you. Venomous creatures use their venom for one of two reasons: To kill their prey, or to make their victim wish they were dead. There is no evolutionary advantage to a poison that kills after 3 days, and very little reason for a venomous creature to have a poison that kills a human outright... we're not prey, and anything that preys upon humans is selected against evolutionary... with blades and knives and guns, and extreme prejudice.

Wow! That looks authentic. Do you have medical education by chance? I envy new players, they gonna have some interesting experience. My only critique is that Anti Venom cures it without consequences. Why not make anti-venom somewhat harmful (but still preferable to staying poisoned)? So high levels with access to Anti-venom still fear spiders and not magically heal themselves with anti-venom.

Spike Traps?

 

I put in several spike traps around a snow cave I dug, but I can't seem to upgrade them to functional. I've tried both right and left clicking with the following items: Sticks, a stone axe, a stone shove, a steak knife, and the bone shiv. Tools, and the steak knife do nothing but damage them, and the sticks and bone shiv do nothing...? Am I doing something wrong? or am I experiencing some kind of bug?

I guess that works. MAN I hate spiders. I didn't think you could live though it. But I guess that's early game. And really if you get a rattler bit your not in a good way. With out modern medical help you would be dead if you met with a ZED.

So yeah I guess this seems good. Punishing is a good description. Not sure how the human reward system will handle it :p

I really wish it was possible to have bodies of water at different altitudes, I miss seeing pine and snow forests around water, and having a base at a high altitude means I never see any water or waterfront biomes so I rely entirely on snow for hydration, I don't think snow replenishes so eventually my small snow peak will be scraped clean of snow.

I highly agree! love seeing a lake with snow around it.

 

Only way to replenish snow, would be delete the region file

You could spawn water POIs as surface decorations, like pond01 and pond02, in the snow biome. Maybe copy then edit them first, making pond3 and 4 and add a 1 block layer of ice blocks. Never tried it but it should work.

Has anyone noticed any improvement with the crafting lag? I think Jeoshua's fix was pushed out in Spider's last update.

 

The Assembly-CSharp.dll for the server is 2 months old. If that is the file that Joeshua altered, it isn't updated on the True-Survival-SDX github.

 

That being said:

 

The general lag while the forge is processing ore/materials is MUCH MUCH better, as is the responsiveness of the recipe list while all this is going on.

 

I am still having to deal with the search lag. I thought Jeoshua said he was able to fix that somewhat by not starting the search until at least 3 letters were entered (which is not happening).

Yes, the crafting lag is just a client-side fix; the server doesn't need to have it.

 

I'll defer the search lag to Jeoshua.

I believe I may have uploaded the wrong file. One version I accidentally inverted the logic (searches with > 0 or < 3 characters, instead of <= 0 or >= 3. The big boy file which I believe Spider has not released yet, with the "Zero means Zero" damage hack, I'm almost positive is working. I will double check...

And wouldn't you know it... that's the one I messed up. I blame myself and the fact I have 20 files with varying extensions in varying levels of experimentation in the same directory. I have fixed this on my Google Drive copy (Download Here), and hopefully Spider picks it up, soon.

 

(I thought it was weird that the file he released had a date a few days before I expected, turns out it's my fault)

Small bug: stone tools dont damage metal objects but punching still does 1 point of dmg.

I think that should probably be reversed... hell, if I find a way to make punching metal, stone, and steel objects do damage to you instead, I will ;)

 

Actually, no. With this new behavior (Zero means Zero), I think that stone tools should do maybe 0.25x damage to metal, but zero damage to steel and hard stone. Just my input, there. I'm just helping with the tools, not the content.

 

But seriously serious about trying to make punching hard things damage you a bit.

Those are loot placeholders. They're supposed to be replaced with trash or crates or corpses, or whatever. I've only ever seen them when changing xmls or flying around in God Mode.

 

More info, please. Were you on a server or SP? Flying? You say you were in the wasteland but where specifically?

 

Here is another POI I spotted that has one of those blue boxes, as you can see, this one was in the wasteland [as is every other one I have seen].

Hay jeoshua if you would like some little goodies to look for in you code digging. How about -

 

Making the jump button use 1 stamina per sec/click.

 

Change it back like it was where you could jump up 2 blocks if you where right up on the blocks

 

Make punching anything do 1 damage to the player

 

That's 3 little things that would do a lot for game play. So reading above, I need to use that .dll instead of the other one we have now? Jeoshua could you friend me on steam need to chat with you sometime.

In other news I'm almost finished coding all the new buffs might be able to test them tomorrow. Then I think I'll work on redoing the tools. I'm thinking-

Hammers will disassemble wood/stone blocks and give primitive crafting

Wrench will disassemble Metal blocks and give journeyman crafting

Screwdriver will disassemble Metal blocks and give Engineering

Nail gun will upgrade and give Master Craftsman

Compact Driver will disassemble/upgrade steel and metal blocks and give master craftsman

 

Each giving its own assortment of parts.

This will help lessen the godliness of the Wrench and make more world blocks disassemble easily with the right tool

 

Loot is also being giving a good once over by our diligent Xyth
