  1. Count me in on this scheme. I would be perfectly happy if quest reward would simply be coins. Much easier to balance as well. But I doubt TFP will want to "downgrade" the quest reward system that far. While we are at it this inspired me to an idea that definitely won't be adopted, but may be worthy of a mod sometime: Once you reached a specific sum (say 7000 dukes) the trader doesn't give you any coins anymore because he is short of them but I.O.U.s from a different trader. You can only collect the money by visiting the right trader and getting the money from him. Same for all other traders. Instead of the 7000 dukes this could alternatively simply replace the rather artifical open trade route quests.
  2. First two general hints: For a new issue start a new thread. No two problems are alike as you can easily see as failsafes problems was solved and yours not. Secondly there are pinned threads in this forum section that tell you what you should do when you ask for help, so you don't waste the time of the **volunteers** doing the help here. Most importantly is the information how to post a logfile so we have more insight in the issue. Your issue can only be solved on the server of your game, i.e. the machine your wife tries to log into. And there you should find a folder (usually that would be AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Saves) with as many saves as you have started games on that server and each one of them would have a Players folder. The actual numbers Sylen gave to failsafe (the EOS_*** numbers) are specific to failsafes case and Sylen knew those numbers because failsafe did post his logfile. The other possibility is that you yourself look into the logfile and search for your wifes in-game name, there the EOS number will sometimes be shown alongside.
  3. So sometimes (big base build) your crafting will get behind, sometimes your crafting will be in front of looting (multiple crack a book). Add to this that there is also the randomness of what magazines you find many or few of and that you have ways to search for specific magazines or places with many magazines. In short, sometimes looting is ahead and sometimes crafting is ahead. Perfect. As perfect as it can get in this game of many degrees of freedom generally.
  4. "I am meant ..." is stating that there is a mind behind this that purposely provides incentives for you to do or not do something by creating a specific meta. If speaking poetically then god, mother earth or randon chance would work, but you have to indicate somewhere that you are using flowery language now or you will be misunderstood. You may say that the "M" is an indication, that would give you points for subtlety but not clarity. If not speaking poetically TFP is the only intelligent entity able to provide the incentives. Which lead me to a different definition of "meta" then the one you were using. And since my reply to that sentence was clearly showing that I did not use your definition of meta you could have cleared this up much earlier, by the way.
  5. Anyone would normally think: "Huh, I am infected. I'll have to check medicine cabinets for help". This is logical, sensible, what anyone would do. I find it strange that in this game that is totally wrong and useless (in early game). I just checked the journal, it mentions what you need to cure infection. But it doesn't say that you get honey from tree stumps. A new player has no chance to reasonably know or guess or anyhow infer how to cure an early infection and that looting medicine cabinets is a waste of time. He might only stumble upon that secret if he actually harvests some stumps and notices that one actually drops honey. Does anyone see a reason why I shouldn't simply report this as a bug?
  6. I can't be sure of that but my impression is that crafting skills and looting are somewhat balanced right now. There are some problems with magazines not dropping at the same frequency but that is an "internal" problem of the magazine setup, once that is fixed I think the balance between crafting and looting will just work.
  7. I think "count="all"" would do that
  8. As a former living person.... zombies don't exist 😁 (the game is not supposed to be a simulation and for balance the brass scraping fits quite well as a secondary source for brass) I don't know much more than you about TFP's plans, but: There is still the story missing in the game. It is already known that it will consist of you having the choice to kill the Duke in his hideout. I would guess they will design the hideout which very well could be the casino **after** they know exactly how bandits work and what a building should have for bandits to work well.
  9. How about putting some of the rewards "wealth" into chests of a tier5 instead of the trader reward? I mean if a tier5 is say 5 times as long as a tier1 why are there not 5 times as many valuable boxes lying around on the way through the POI? And how about simply removing tiered items from the rewards or making them appropriate to your level? You can always select the money or ammo instead. Currently the trader is the central reason for the game not having a working crafting game and a progression that everyone can easily jump over.
  10. In that case the request would be reasonable to change the default of ServerVisibility to private.
  11. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it is normal that a new alpha is already being worked on while the older alpha just came out and still receives updates. Does not prevent long cycles per se.
  12. Is there maybe a compelling reason that the moderators do not fix the issues people have? Like that they don't have any access to the source code, are not developers and most of them are not even employed by TFP?
  13. Never heard of a way. Maybe you get lucky if you reset the time to where you were when you made the first settime.
  14. Is it easy to make a mod so that damage of a weapon degrades with its current durability value? I.e. that a weapon at 50% durability does less damage than at 100%.
  15. But you said your old PSU fixed the problem, so somehow it has something to do with the PSU, doesn't it? Different PSUs often have their wattage distributed differently over the voltages. So one might have a beefier 5V line and less on the 12V line or vice versa. Did you check if maybe the XFX PSU was particularily strong in any one of the lines where the other two were not?
  16. Setting time is a dangerous command that you should only use in test games. Not in games you want to play.
  17. Probably nothing that "General Support" can help you with. You can make a bug report (see red banner). And another candidate to report it to might be steam as they try to make their proton environment EAC compatible.
  18. Then there is mathematics that shows that Living of the Land 1 is perfectly viable with an average gain of 1.5 plants per farm plot. Is that a really really good return? No, neither is the return of miner69er 1 or the wrenching perk at 1. Lotl1 is poor man's farming just like miner69er 1 is poor man's mining and wrenching 1 is poor man's wrenching.
  19. Well, then you have accidentally sometimes used language that seems to suggest they are intending this or that meta or are designing for it: No need to explain whatever else you meant with these sentences since we finally arrived at a definition of meta. Which is (to me) simply a synonym for the optimal path to play the game. Something a game company usually wants to balance away as much as possible so that there are multiple different paths that are almost all optimal. Not many complex games reach that target, the only one that is surely in that category to my knowledge is Starcraft. I believe that TFP is not looking at the optimal path or meta to balance their game except to nerf it if too many players follow that to the exclusion of everything else. The optimal path or meta almost randomly changes slightly or profoundly with every version and every balance change, so why should they? TFP will not look at resource piles and ask "what does this mean in the current meta?", they will ask "Are resource piles something nobody or everybody is collecting? If yes, they need some balancing". And just because veteran players have a meta to not collect them does not mean that there isn't a portion of players who do collect them, only telemetry knows. And to come back to our topic: When they look at shovels and see that only very few quality steps make a difference they won't look at the meta and decide that they don't need to do anything because the **current** meta by accident says to ignore shovel progression anyway because shovels are not used much by "meta" players. They will look at a suboptimal shovel progression and try to fix it if possible. Evolution is also very very slow 😉, most players will need time to find the meta (or their own way to play outside the meta), which is enough for TFP who doesn't assume that players play the game for eternity. And metas don't work for everyone: An expert player may find a meta that other players simply can't emulate even if they watch him on youtube (or they would not like to play that way). As I said I doubt that I could play what you are doing and I am very sure 2 of my friends can not play like that. And I see examples of other people here on the forum that for one reason or another are not following your meta. I agree that if this were a PvP game the meta would be much more important, but 7D2D's focus is not PvP. But some players don't like a dedicated mining session, especially with stone axes, and prefer to get resources peacemeal between or as part of the looting. There seem to be players who not only loot a POI but completely strip everything that might have some value from it and they have fun with that. It may not be the optimal way to get the specific resources but as long as it isn't miles behind it is their "meta". If everyone followed the optimal path they would not exist, neither would I.
  20. It was meant as a compliment that you found a solution on par with mine that I totally overlooked even though it was in the game once. I don't know when they will arrive, I am not there yet ! We are before horde night day 21 or day 28 now, my co-player is sure we are before day 28 but I am not. I probably could figure out some probability of demos arriving by checking current gamestage, but I never looked at gamestage the whole game and checking now inbetween sessions is some effort. I can't even say what level I am except that my character bugged out a few in-game days before and I had to start anew at level 1 and I remember that I went back up to level 34 because that was the minimum level of the others. And I don't know what the changes like the POI buffs to gamestage will do to horde night, so comparison with previous alphas is hardly accurate, IF I even did remember when they arrived then and were sure in which of those runs I did play vanilla instead of a mod. @BFT2020 among others might know if it can be done in xml, i.e. whether it is an easy mod to do. It depends on whether quality of an item is directly accessible from xml. I disagree that some optimal path in the game is automatically a meta that TFP wants their players to follow. For example the building part has so many possibilities and TFP has so many different players to take into account (especially beginners) that they will never be able to reign in the power of building to some strict balance. Players will always find minimal horde base builds that trick the AI and those build will be distributed to all players that spoil their fun by watching youtubers use those builds instead of trying to find the best builds themselves. What you as expert player with the knowledge of hundreds of other players infused into you should do is increase block damage of the zombies even further than the difficulty setting, maybe then you need to do more than build a fence. You are correct in that I haven't noticed that yet though I have sensed that something is different. In my sp it hasn't made a difference yet, in MP we have a miner which makes the difference moot. I always have unlimited "inventory space" in my SP game, its called "secure storage box on the street" 😉. I know that one of my co-players used to complain there is no use for mining anymore because of the resource blocks in POIs giving too much. Obviously TFP noticed too and adjusted the amount, maybe too far to the other side(?). That's something to playtest and complain if it isn't worth collecting. One thing is for sure, TFP will not want stuff standing around in POIs in masses that isn't worth collecting at all
  21. Naturally I do the burpees synchronous with the zombies to get my perfect headshots. 😁
  22. It was a rhetorical question to make clear that your solution seems equivalent to me and not in any way a solution where I'd have to compromise somewhere. Though again, whether the hoped for effect turns up would have to be tested, as it isn't safe to assume that players would make the connection between quality and the number of repair kits they need. But you were comparing with us getting demos on day 7 or 14 which isn't the case and therefore it does NOT "make for quite a difference in approach" as you were assuming. I still don't agree that there is much of a different situation in SP. The resources in SP are lower so a single player won't update his tools as often as someone in MP, but A) a player also has no need to if he knows where the switchpoints are and B) he will still be sorely disappointed if he just made or found(!) or bought(!) a better one and finds out it has no effect at all.
  23. If you start the server with the script that is included, a logfile will be automatically generated. This is highly recommended. If you call 7DaysToDieServer.exe aka the game program directly, then simply add "-logfile output.log" to the calling line and there will be a logfile called "output.log" generated, probably in the directory you are at when starting the game or in the program folder of the game
  24. There should be a red banner telling you how to report bugs. Most important detail is that a logfile is needed and how to post that. And the most likely thing that happened is that you changed the wrong serverconfig.xml or used the wrong syntax in it. Which could be easily checked by looking into the logfile, just saying
  25. Thread moved into the appropriate section
