  1. Note that telric only told you about the general use of "!" in many programming languages, something you seem to have known already. And yes, this surely is the most logical explanation. But verified it isn't. Have you seen this used anywhere in vanilla or in a mod ? If yes, why not try it in game if it works as expected?
  2. You are supposed to decide which items are important and which to scrap. Typical limitation of a survival game. Hint: Use secure storage chests in front of pois you loot to store away stuff you want but can't carry at the moment.
  3. How many corner cabinets have you looked at to arrive at this conclusion?
  4. Sounds like a bug. I have a dedicated server in use and we extensively used sledges and they never failed to attack. Claim block or perks have nothing to do with this.
  5. Weell, maybe its me, but I didn't see any "hate" here, we shouldn't put up strawman for the roasting. Bluemame for example was complaining very politely about a limitation that an earlier version didn't have and why shouldn't he get a chance to explain his view like everyone else here does.
  6. I actually wonder why it says that we can craft hordes ?
  7. For reference, Fifa 23 surely could have been released 2 days after Fifa 22, if EA had wanted to. 😁 A bit more serious, I see an AAA company and a second version, where the standard is to provide just a handful of new features and a graphics update. Hoping for a better example. How about we make 7D2D the reference, then 7D2D is right on track 😉
  8. Your answer is definitely a step up over my rather compressed explanation. Improving my answer would mean to just let it point to yours. 😉
  9. Yes. But this is still a balancing problem that exists whether you have loot set to 100% or 25% loot. And I am absolutely on your side here as I have said on many occasions that the trader still needs toning down. The only difference between you and me, I know how TFP operates and I can wait. I know that TFP will not simply follow random guy even if he posts a convincing argument that **HE** can't play this way. Even if that guy were Roland, a respected modder or you. Because they look at new players and their difficulties as well. They have their own priorities and a feature that they think worthy might turn up in a few weeks or in a year or shortly before going gold. For outsiders to the development process it always goes too slow. Whether the outsiders are right or not, this is the speed at which TFP develops and that won't change. And they view modding (not writing but using mods) as the door to endless replayability, now with an unfinished game in EA but also eventually with a finished game with steam workshop enabled. So I heard in A20 they toned down the trader. They surely will continue to tone down the trader if they feel it necessary, at a pace that clearly won't be to everyones liking. They surely will add more options, though as few as possible (because of screen space, testing effort, ...) and probably as late as possible. For me this means that A19 traders are the past and not worth discussing much about, A20 traders are the new standard and if they still should be too powerful for my taste I will say so and probably have to wait another year for more changes. But before I haven't played A20 anything you or I are saying about the traders is just theoretical musing. What is extreme about it? A polished game can't have them drop in the game when they can't be completed. These are standards a mod can violate but not a game sold in steam as AA. Reviewers of game magazines would criticize this, reviews on youtube would make sarcastic comments about it. Since this is about polish it doesn't matter that their value is very limited and they can be ignored. Maybe, but that could be really weird for players to see an NPC that is just doing nothing. Some of them would even guess this is a bug (they might not be the one that turned on the option and expect this but a player in a MP game). This is just a guess, I could be totally wrong here. But adding a substitute POI for the traders might not be that much more work (as part of the work is offloaded to a POI designer) but feels much more polished so that I think they would take the alternate POI solution. When you expect something from the devs, you have to take into account what their ultimate plans are. And they have all future content in mind when they think about new stuff to add. Lets assume for a moment that the Navezgane map gets an end-game goal that is only reachable after collecting enough reputation with one of the factions and the only way to gain reputation is either with normal or special reputation quests given out by the trader. So removing the trader would make the end-game goal unreachable. And that would be unacceptable. We don't know what their plans are in detail. But we can list this as a **possible** reason they might not be too keen on adding a "no-trader" option. Which should be ok since you would prefer a "trader-nerf" option anyway. Proceed to where? You want something from TFP and they will probably not listen to arguments that do not take the future into account (like the trader nerf in A20 which we only can fully evaluate after having played A20). Also for TFP the trader seems already to be a central element of the game, as you can see with A20 adding another dependancy to the trader in RWG.
  10. right-click 7D2D in steam, select properties, then "betas", there is your drop-down menue. You probably should then start the game launcher, select the tools tab and clear your settings. Do this whenever you change the major version number
  11. Lets talks about this. You post a few arguments why the discussion above should not continue and I will bring up totally sound arguments against that. I'm sure we can get a string of posts going at least as long as the one above.
  12. If multiple people are involved the chance that none of them are able to install one XML only mod on the server (i.e. unpack a zip in a specific directory) is rather small I would say. And only the server needs the mod, everyone else gets it automatically. With steam workshop this should be even easier in many cases eventually. By the way, you are arguing here for leaving some people with potato PCs behind so that other people with noob skills are not left behind. Make it an option in the settings and nobody will be left behind. There is some influence on balance, yes. You waste more ammo and get more xp without more loot. Both makes the game slightly more difficult (in addition to more zombies) which seems ok to me. In other words, I don't see a moderate increase like 2 times the zombies to upset the balance and the upsetting is into the "right direction"
  13. Do all zombies wake up if the check fails for one of them? Or is there a negative bonus on that check? I mean, these rooms are supposed to be rooms of increased danger, right?
  14. And other people have different experiences. My old pc had an AMD FX-8370, with realistically 4 cores and 4Ghz clock. The CPU is from 2014 The FPS leave hardly room for more and I need to turn down resolution quite far, though I suspect in this case the similarily old GPU has some part in this. In the last 10 years many people bought laptops for their gaming and they will have nominally "fast" CPUs that will throttle down after 10 seconds. Under 1%? Maybe not.
  15. Its not my game, not my minimum specs. There is no "want" in my case, I just say that TFP is likely to be reluctant to change specs when they can see with telemetry that there are players out there with potatoes still playing the game. And I'm sure they see such players because here in the forum sometimes people with laptops or old PCs complain about performance on horde night. For you getting a new PC might be no problem, but for a player in the Philipines or in Belarus it might be not so easy. Especially since you can't buy a sensible middle class GPU at the moment and even if you could it would cost nearly $500. So everything points to a setting in the options menue, especially since I seem to remember someone from TFP talking about it.
  16. How long does it take to crash after starting a game? How long have you been playing the savegame (i.e. what day is it in the game) ? Does it always happen when you are at a specific place? Does it happen when you do something specific? Is your xbox standing with enough free air around it? Are the vents blocked by anything?
  17. The option is the only viable solution as minimum specs haven't changed (and it isn't without problems to change specs and pull the rug under people with potato hardware). And AFAIK the option IS on the list of things TFP wants to implement. I think that it should be done rather sooner than later.
  18. My answer to bachgamans question has nothing to do with modding. Honestly - you are using the word "honestly" too often 😉
  19. No. You say I made contradictory claim, one of them being it is not a sandbox. So again, where did I say "It is not a sandbox". No. You made a claim that the game isn't a sandbox. But you never explained it fully, you never made a logical chain between "Trader is unbalanced aka an option is missing" to "This is not a sandbox". So I have to fill in the blanks and guess what you might be driving at. So now you can either provide a concise logical argument why 7D2D is not a sandbox without such an option or explain what you really meant or say "nevermind, that wasn't thought through, forget it". A logical argument would show what a sandbox needs to be a sandbox, and would show how 7D2D does not provide that. Off the top of my head 1) The trader is endpoint not only for quests he gives out but quests that can be found in the wasteland. All of those have to be deactived **depending** on this option. According to an experienced modder this might not be possible yet in XML so further changes in c++ code would be necessary. 2) The trader in A20 is a neccessary ingredient of any town as it is the endpoint of the highway to it. No trader, no highway that ends in that town. It probably would need some changes in random world generation to use an alternative newly-created POI for this as well (which I think would be the easiest fix) 3) Whether you believe it or not, bandits and story and possibly a faction system will be in 7D2D in the future, with the traders assumed to be in the middle of some of the mechanisms of this. Only TFP knows the detials, but such an interconnectedness would probably need additional code to make the game work without trader. Blood Moon is not part of anything else, it just makes lots of zombies spawn at a specific time. I don't see any other feature of the game touched by BM. Understood. We are talking about many things, too many at the moment.
  20. All the perks seem to refer to a parent, even book perks, and every line of parent-relationships seem to end with an attribute on top of the tree.
  21. TFP does not care if the streamers are really using it. It is a beneficial deal to both sides that has nothing to do with what the streamers do outside of that weekend. Internal testers could play A20 months before you. Another beneficial deal, in this case one side gets money and the other side bugs reported. Is that unfair as well? Thousands of gamers will probably still play the game in a year. That they still have fun (without a single dime to pay) is their reward, why do they need to be pampered now? I mean, sure, the gamers deserve recognition for promoting the game to their friends and all, but TFP for example developed a much much bigger game than what was iinitially promised in the kickstarter (without you paying for that as DLCs) and the developers are present on the forum to answer questions. Is that not recognition and reward as well? In other words, you get a present but you can't pick which one.
  22. Maybe the game expects you to add all perks to abilities!? Make the condition to perk into it with points impossible and it doesn't matter that it is listed
  23. I'm talking about people wanting that feature. If TFP looks for interesting options for people they don't count people largely indifferent to that feature, they look for a mass of people who would need it. You claim to speak for "new players who play the game a lot", I just don't see any trace of them here in the forum at least to call that a **basic** neccessity "Now you literally tell me "no, man, this game is not a sandbox, well, more precisely, a sandbox, well, not quite, well, you know, I just don't want to agree with you on anything."" And there is the freedom to set your own goals and objectives. There is the creativity available. But no game is a perfect simulation and allows EVERYTHING you just invented as a goal, there are always limitations. In a space sim sandbox you often can play as trader, pirat and headhunter, but you usually can't play as a cashier in a bank, it is still called a sandbox. Furthermore the only wall between you and your ability to play without traders is not even installing of any mods, it is just to not use traders. But tell me what profession is that you are playing here, a non-trader? What role are you missing in this sandbox? Thanks for searching. These seem to be the only posts where I mention sandbox to you. In both those posts there wasn't a single mention of modding and one was a speculative piece about treasure hunter, the other I mentioned sandbox to say that there a a few goals in the game you can choose. And we argued a lot already so I have a bit of a difficulty to match those two posts with your assertion that I made a link between modding/limiting yourself and this being a sandbox game. Please refrain from adding insults. A child grows up to be an adult, but when someone says "child" he doesn't refer to adults. Same goes for "new users" and "veterans" I just said it would be a somewhat bad example for your case because it didn't start as something planned and developed by TFP, it was never an item on any priority list inside TFP. And the drone is a much clearer case to argue about because it was clearly high on the priority list of TFP. "but the game also needs content" So the drone is not content? How about we wait first whether it proves to be a popular item or not. The drone isn't much farther ahead to current tech than the robotic turrets and traps that all have a friend-foe detection, some even a detection between living and dead person. Questioning realism in this game is rather useless, there is a heap of unrealistic stuff in it. Accept it or play a more realistic game. The developers won't change the overall direction of the game because you don't like it. So what? If you look around, you can find stupid people anywhere. Why should people who don't play the game enter into a discussion about features of the game? And no, max perk level does not give you the schematic of a tier3 item. True, but the drone was your example. Obviously cost of development alone is not the only metric to decide which feature gets implemented and which isn't. What others have tried to say that removing the trader is not a thing TFP can implement in 2 days and forget about it the rest of development, it is NOT an insignificant effort. Good, you found a mod to your liking. Vanilla is supposed to be "outplayed" by veteran players, everyone eventually gets fed up with the same stuff. This is why games-as-a-service exist (7D2D isn't one but sometimes feels like one when a new alpha gets released) and this is why players get mad with anticipation when a new alpha in EA comes about.
  24. Yes, sloppy reading on my part, you did mention to add a second option No, the word toilet is YOUR analogy of a basic need. And I used your word to describe the same thing. Instead of searching everywhere for an insult maybe look for the message. For you and (judging by the support you are getting from other forum posters) only you at the moment this option is a basic need. Everyone else seems to cope quite well without that option Where did I say this is not a sandbox game in that paragraph? I would say this is "inattentive reading" from you now. I said that this is partly a sandbox but to be called a sandbox in a genre mix a game just needs very few of those features. I made this point because you were arguing that this game having "unnormal" xml modding meant it isn't a sandbox. Or maybe you just meant the missing option preventing the game being a sandbox? I didn't really want to ask, I#m sure you have a definition of what a sandbox is supposed to be and so 7D2D is not a sandbox to you. Fine by me. For me 7D2D is still a sandbox although other genres are more dominant in 7D2D. My memory is very bad, so please show me a few of those posts where I supplemented anything by the words that this is a "sandbox" game. This sounds very unlike me, so maybe you are confusing me with Roland Wait, you are "redefining" new players now as people who stay with it for a long time? 😄 I would call them long-term orr even veteran players. And yes, they need replayability. Now seriously, you are talking to a guy with >2000 hours in the game and complain to him about missing replayability! Twitch integration was a private project by a 7D2D team member, care to tell him he can't do that in his free time? Sure, further development is likely on company time but I still would say this is a bad example. Drones are a legitimite feature TFP planned though, lets look at it. Intelligence was missing a tier 3 "weapon" and fitting with the theme they created the drone. It was necessary to complete INT and it was an excellent idea in my view. Your twitch player who plays for 2 days will probably never see that drone (if it really will be classified as tier3). And yes, even though I have said repeatedly that the trader is OP I would prefer the drone to any trader config option. By the way, an important information you might not know: TFP will add steam workshop support when the game goes gold. If you don't know, steam workshop is a simple way for "noobs" to install mods into games. Yes, there is a reason this will be a late addition and yes, again, EA is not for everyone. If you need to install mods and can't, wait for the game going gold.
  25. I mostly agree, it is rather unusual and I prefer services to be off by default too. Still, this default is "reasonably" secure and once you want to use telnet for more you are bound to read the comment and act on that information. I only use telnet to shutdown the game on the server per script. I assume server management programs for public servers (like botman) use it to control the game.
