Can (non POI) animals spawn inside the bedroll protection area?

We're having a discussion on Steam as to what kind of spawns the bedroll will protect you from.

AFAIK bedrolls should still protect you from (cleared) POI spawns but also from biome spawns in the area, including animals.

It will not protect you, of course, from Screamer spawns and Wandering Hordes.

Is this correct?

Well... the bedroll basically blocks ALL spawns in its range. It afaik also blocks screamer and wandering horde spawns. However it does not prevent mobs that spawned outside the bedroll zone to walk into this zone.
That's mostly the case for screamers and wandering hords, which afaik spawn with a certain minimum distance to the player anyway. But that applies also to random zombie and animal spawns also. A bear can litterally spawn 1 block outside the bedroll zone and then just walk towards you.

In opposite to the bedroll the land claim block only blocks sleeper spawns but not world spawns.

That is good information, but is also conflicting with what other people (even Mods) said on Steam... hmm, I don't know who to believe honestly.

Seems like there's no shared knowledge of this mechanic even when asked veterans/mods.

Would be good if someone from TFP could clarify this, also because some rules for the bedroll protection could have changed over time. :confused2:

I cannot do testing at the moment.. but you could theoretically run a dedicated lan server and specify the bedroll deadzone to be.. 200 blocks (can't do that with the in-game settings). And just go to town with an auger on some iron with bedroll nearby or see if it will prevent zombie spawns during bloodmoon

Thanks, someone did that, and we found out it's not changed apparently. :thumb:

So basically we can completely skip hordes altogether?

What?? No! Where di you get that from?

Hordes will spawn OUTSIDE the bedroll area... so unless you mod the game to have the bedroll cover a 300x300 square area, everything works as normal.

According to @faatal from earlier in the a18 or a19 developer diary, bedroll only blocks POI and biome spawns, and LCB only blocks POI spawns.

Also I like Vedui, but some of his videos are a bit misleading and tend more towards theatrics. (Which honestly isn't any different from 95% of the other video game streamers.)

A 'bit?'

He would have to have been outright lying and using tricks to cover it up in those vids.  It pretty clearly shows that all spawns are blocked.

Dev statements are high on the reliability meter but quite as high as actual hard tests.  Perhaps something is not working properly because that bedroll was blocking all spawns of any type.  That makes sense too otherwise things would be spawning inside your base - like screamer spawns.

That's what I thought from the beginning honestly.

Now, are animal night spawns considered "biome spawns"? (Yes IMO)

afaik, they are biome spawns.  Anything that spawns not connected to something else (like screamers or a POI) is going to be a biome spawn.  You will note that those spawns are effected by the biome you are in, animals are different and the zeds walking around are different depending on being in the wasteland or in the forest.
