Can't join server

Hello....

I bought 7 days to die 2 pack... Gifted one to a friend so we can play together.

But when we try to connect to each other it just closes and we get back to Main Menu.

This is happening for both of us...

Is there anything that needs to be done beside starting "New Game" to play ?

Connecting to other servers work, so no network issues...

Buying the game and not being able to play...

Very disappointed... Spent 2 days trying to connect so we can play... and still no success..

Thank you,

Regards.

Moved to a more appropriaet section of the forum.

Read the Sticky FAQ for troubleshooting tips. Would need more information on your setup to help you guys connect, but it's most likely security software or a bandwidth issue.

Hello,

Could you please send me a link to this FAQ ?

What information is required, i will provide everything needed ?

Thank you,

Regards.

There are three Stickied topics in this forum. It's the one labeled FAQ.

Another one tells you to read it before posting, and tells you what you need to provide.

This isn't rocket science. Just read and follow instructions.

I know it's not rocket science... I am reporting a PC bug on Multiplayer and I need General Support all that has it's own sticky notes and as i just started using this "support system" I am not finding everything right away.

As for the steps of troubleshooting:

- I can reproduce the issue on demand. Fresh new install of the game.

- Game files verified on Steam.

- Tried twice creating new games (New World) in order to test if it was something with the one already used. For both sides (Me and my friend).

- The issue should not be network related as we can join other online server. We are currently playing on a random server.

-EAC disabled. Tried with and without it - the result is the same.

My system specs:

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Ryzen 5 2600x

16 GB RAM

GTX 1050

Not sure of the exact specs on the other PC:

Windows 10

Core i5

8 GB RAM

GTX 1050

Thank you.

Post your logs from both machines from a session when you failed to connect.

Also, because you have 16 GB of ram, you should be the host, and your friend should

connect to your game.

Hello,

Please find my logs below:

https://pastebin.com/zxfycDyF

I tried connecting at 2020-01-04T21:04:55

Please find the logs from my friend below:

https://pastebin.com/2rWyADgq

He tried connecting at 2020-01-04T21:11:07

Thank you.

I can't tell what the problem is from the logs, sorry.

Maybe a dev can look at them and comment.

I wouldn't rule out networking as the problem though, because the game runs ok

for both of you, you just can't connect to each other. I think getting a 3rd player

involved to do some testing could be helpful. PM me if you want me to give it a try.

No errormessage? No hint at all?

Do you both sit behing NAT from your provider? So you probably need to configure Portfrowardings on you router, at least that person that plays the host.

If so, that is not a problem of the game itself, but how internet works.

Without not wanting to make you to overwhelm, even upnpn migth not work with your router. If you don't understand what i say with this...that might be your problem.

Can you both join any public server?

What i see from your logs, your friend never joined your server. But he joined his own lobby?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

No errors, no nothing. When i start joining I get to "Receiving and Loading Config" and after some time (1-2 min) of waiting i just get back to Main Menu.

Yes, we can join public servers. That's how we are playing at the moment.

We first tested if he starts a game will I be able to join, that is why he had his own lobby.

As i am not a network expert and i never encountered any kind of "Port forwarding" before in order to play a game. Also I am not aware if we are sitting behind NAT. I checked my router settings and I saw that i have UPnP enabled. I went thru some settings about that Port Forwarding:

Ports : 26900-26902

IP : I used my default that login to the router (192.168.0.1). Not sure if it is correct.

Protocols: ALL (which include TCP and UDP)

Thank you,

Regards.

With the caveat that I am not an expert in 7D2D peer-to-peer gaming...

Your logs appear to show that it is trying to use Steamworks to connect. This is, I think, a 3rd-party broker network scheme where you connect to Steam, your friend connects to Steam, and then Steam brokers the handshake between your two games. This ought to avoid the NAT problems that a more direct connection would encounter, however it's still probably useful to open the ports in your router.

In any case, this is the part where it tries to make a more direct connection, I think (using LiteNet):

2020-01-04T21:04:55 63.786 INF NET: LiteNetLib trying to connect to: 77.xx.xx.126:26900
2020-01-04T21:04:55 63.795 INF Exited thread ServerBrowserListUpdater
2020-01-04T21:05:01 69.787 INF NET: LiteNetLib: Connection failed: ConnectionFailed

If I had to guess, that failure is due to NAT restrictions. Having your friend open the ports in his router might fix that. After that fails it moves to Steam networking and to my untrained eye your connection to your friend is working, but then a couple of minutes after you connect the server disconnects you.

I would definitely open up the ports in your routers and try again, to see if LiteNet can connect instead of Steam. When you set up a port forward, it is telling the router "if any requests come in to ports XYZ, send them to <some LAN IP address>". In this case, that <some LAN IP address> needs to be the IP of your PC where 7D2D is running, not the IP address of your router/gateway.

If your PC is using DHCP, then its IP address may change from boot to boot; I'd recommend setting it up as a static IP if possible. Otherwise, get its current IP address (command line "ipconfig") and put that into your router forwarding rule. As long as you don't reboot (or disable/enable the network card) you should be fine.

If your friend is hosting, he would need to do the same, most likely. It's pretty rare I think for a home LAN to not have a NAT router at the head end.
