Orca_Amity
Why is it so hard to hunt? Before I could there was stags everywhere and now I can't find any? I did have to change a setting to Low for the zombies and I'm wondering if that has made things low for the stags as well even though the stags are not enemies. I used to find the stags in the desert and now I rarely see them now.
Synvastian
Deer in deserts are rare, as they are forest based creatures, you're more likely to find coyotes and snakes, occasionally a chicken...deer and boars are common in the forest, snakes and coyotes in desert, bears are mixed but mostly forest again, wasteland has dogs and zombears...snow has deer and bears
Sydious
I've had a few play though games in A18 (restart with each patch). I've had games with animals ALL Over the place and my last I have yet to see one. Could be a bug or just RNGesus.
Damocles
You can fist punch a boar alternatively.
fish77
You can fist punch a boar alternatively. Boars always wreck me, can usually kill them but would rather face a horde of zombies than a single boar, the pig house with the cave/irradiated boar underneath is right next to my horde base, need to go in and clear them out at some point but can't see it going well
Psychodabble
I'm not sure how it is now, but in previous alphas it was way easier to find animals in unexplored map sections. If you're just traversing the same areas looking for animals, that may be the issue. Try branching out farther and searching in new areas. If that doesn't help, there's also a tracking perk under Perception.
Orca_Amity
Even when I go to the forest I hardly see anything to hunt. One time I shot a stag down and when I went over to its corpse it wasn't there and I can't see how it got up and run away without me noticing it. I hope they don't de-spawn because it's hard enough to find one animal.

I constantly have enough meat

njugul
Modlet to entitygroups.xml: <configs> <set xpath="/entitygroups/entitygroup[@name='FriendlyAnimalsDesert']/entity[@name='invisibleAnimal']/@prob">3</set> <set xpath="/entitygroups/entitygroup[@name='FriendlyAnimalsSnow']/entity[@name='invisibleAnimal']/@prob">2</set> <set xpath="/entitygroups/entitygroup[@name='FriendlyAnimalsForest']/entity[@name='invisibleAnimal']/@prob">1</set> <set xpath="/entitygroups/entitygroup[@name='FriendlyAnimalsBurntForest']/entity[@name='invisibleAnimal']/@prob">3</set> <set xpath="/entitygroups/entitygroup[@name='FriendlyAnimalsPlains']/entity[@name='invisibleAnimal']/@prob">2</set> </configs> The *lower* the number the more animals will spawn. Old versions had some other configs in spawning.xml (respawndelay) but those got removed, no idea if the above alone is enough.

Most of the boars are in cages and cant get out. You can shoot them with bows or stab them with spears and they cant reach you. Grace (Giant glowie pig)....sadly...always disappears on me when I kill her but a clip of AK-47 does the trick nicely. I just wish she wouldnt disappear, want that meat. The supercorn family mansion is awesome for meat, shows up as a Tier III quest location sometimes, always hit it to get more food/corn to refresh.
