  1. That is not 'player directed.' They did not change it because people whined nor does any dev care about one player whining about another player. They plugged an obvious exploit that was never planned to be there in the first place. I have never seen a single dev state that there should be any place to be safe from the horde save paying for it with dukes and, afaik, they threw that idea out as well. I can say that I certainly wanted digging zeds because I actually wanted to make an underground base that would be assaulted. The game is not there yet as they have not properly designed the AI for vertical travel so I do hope they fix that as well but it is one hell of an unsubstantiated claim to say the devs changed this because of some whining players.
  2. .... It is rare that I find a wall of text that I agree with completely. This is a fantastic idea.
  3. I doubt that. The vast majority of people would have no idea and just know the end product is pretty damn good. I would be okay without bandits tbh. I would have been okay with the game going gold as is. That they are still working on it is just gravy for me. After taking this experience to a few other games I have been let down hard. A lot of EA titles seem to end up as unfinished garbage heaps. I generally will not buy EA anymore. Considering the game is getting ever closer to completion and bandits have been totally absent from anything outside of unused assets, I honestly do not see them making the cut in the end. Bandits are PvP servers. And they are pretty difficult 😛 All these types of games have this problem. Conan manages to habve a pretty deep storyline and an end game but to achieve that required a static map. A games like this makes that very difficult. It is also true the more freedom you give the player, the more ways they will discover that breaks any challenge that the dev may throw at them. End game content is really what you make it. I fond that I end up seeking all the books and when found, there is no reason to go outside anymore so the game is abandoned for awhile. Then again, I play dead is dead so it is tough as hell to get to that end game no matter how powerful you get. Some pretty simple mistakes gets any character killed.
  4. You can clear a t5 on 1 hour days if you focus on actually clearing the POI, it really is not to hard. I also find this a rather strange comment made here anyway, the quests are not locked to a timetable. You can take as long as you want. Night clearing a T5 is really not all that different from clearing it during the day in later stages anyway, most of them are feral. With some basic strategy, night clearing ends up being exactly the same as clearing it during the day. I don't find it all that difficult to find the last zeds either - it does show you where they are. Worst case scenario, go to the roof, get right over the point and dig straight down. Aside from a known issue a few alphas ago where the last zed simply would not spawn and the occasional vulture finding them is not all that tough. I would say that while vulture spawns should stay, they should not count to killing all the zeds, the do fly away sometimes and force you to fail the quest. It is not prevalent enough to care all that much though.
  5. I buy every book the trader has every single time that I have not read from day one (at least as soon as I get the dukes). The only ones I pass up are the ones that I simply cannot get the dukes for in time or the clothing one save for better pockets if I am strapped for cash. Books are how you gain strength and/or options in this game.
  6. LOL. Ya, not bad at all. My inner teenager was hoping for more 😛 Considering we already have a stripper zed that is shirtless this is rather benign. I do wonder what the re-model of the stripper zed is going to look like though - they have not gotten to that one yet.
  7. ^sadly, there is no trader jen in my current a19 map so I have no idea what she looks like now lol!
  8. An idea that has been floated around here before and the one I think makes for the best solution is to have most of the higher tier locations have 3 variants with the final room placed in different areas in each variant. Would not take a ton of work to make a few paths through most locations rather than just the one option. This would not have the result of gimmicky solutions that are out of place and force you to do at least some cursory exploration to get to the final room. Lower tier units don't really matter. most of those are just one or 2 rooms anyway so there is no need for fancy solutions to the final stash there. It does negate stashing the stuff on the roof but that was always a poor idea in the first place - just leads to nerdpolling to the roof.
  9. Meh, gear is a low priority for me. There is gear raining from the sky and for those occasional dry spells I can just craft it. Books, that is where the money is at. Those are available from the start.
  10. Always carry a healthy stack of wood frames and a few spears. You can nerdpole up 2 blocks and place frames faster than anything - including a bear or dire wolf - can destroy them. Once you have a small enough platform you can get 2 down that have been upgraded and there is nothing in game that can kill you. Last time I got jumped by a dire on day one this is how I survived and got some early meat out of the deal. Works like a charm. It is much easier if you are near any structure whatsoever. Then all you need to do is pole up 3 spaces and you become untouchable. Bears are usually not worth it early game but I am never unhappy to see any other animal early game. The meat and bones that early is really nice.
  11. To be honest, this game is quite playable as is and was worth every penny I have spent on it if the dev team closed up shop tomorrow and never released another update. I have more hours on it than virtually any other AAA title I own and would only place a few of them on par with 7 days, flaws and all. The fact it remains in alpha is basically a bonus for me - the game gets updated and changes allowing me to come back after a time and enjoy it all over again. I will never understand the anger at the dev cycle taking so long - I will be disappointed when the game goes gold as there will be no more major changes to gameplay to look forward to.
  12. Not really. Now your equipment is only going to get incrementally better but it is STILL incrementally better and that improves your ability to fight, kill and build. Saving that box for later just gimps you now in favor of getting better stuff later - when you are getting that better stuff everywhere anyway. It may be true that saving those crates for later would be a good idea if the total number of good crates was quite limited but really they are not. Loot is everywhere.
  13. New graphics and equipment is awesome. I actually like the new food system particularly with the new recipes, candy and effects. New loot system is a good step forward as well as it really does make anything not a top tier item useful again. Never before used the blunderbuss - not once. Now it had a use and I have a ton of them. Don't really like finding stone tools in containers as it is rather jarring - they do not belong - but from a game play stance this is a very good thing IMHO. New Junk turret needs a bit of work, it really is not very useful as it does not seem to acquire a target and fire before it goes out of range. Vultures actually attacking tiles is a huge plus - cant just ignore their existence anymore. I like the new starting spawn and trader locations, takes a little of the random aspect away from getting a decent start. New assets in poi's are also very nice. Normalizing progression across all weapons and tools is also a really good idea IMHO. Very disappointed in the perk changes - I was hoping TFP would see the light and abandon the current attribute categorization for something that actually allows me to customize my character and playstyle rather than boxing me into a class system that is neither original, freeing or fun. Not happy with reducing wooden storage box space. Storage space needs to be normalized across all containers to allow us to actually use them rather than making one storage the only thing worth having. At least the replacement is not difficult to produce. Starting stamina usage is really bad as well. I spent far to much time bored and standing around waiting for my stamina to replenish in the early game. Mid game and a few perks in sex rex and this peters out but leaves a really bad impression at the outset like playing a mobile game with timers. The worst time to have that kind of impression.
  14. Really? I am finding the melee hit detection MASSIVELY worse. Head on works fine but the instant I am at an angle I end up hitting walls, floors and virtually anything but what my aim is actually on. It is not a problem with where I am aiming either - as I said head on works every single time like it should.
