  1. The alpha where we sat in our base crafting 1000 axes every night sucked, the multiple alpha's where the trader gave you a motorcycle in week 2 sucked, the alpha where I spec'd fists and didn't get a steel knuckle drop for 72 days (at which point I quit) sucked. A21 progression is the best I can remember.
  2. Is that a thing is it? I always thought you couldn't cheese it that way, something I read a few alphas ago suggested you couldn't do it. In any case, TFP should take a look at Darkness Falls for that one, they nerf that perfectly in that mod.
  3. The amount of long term saves I had with only 1 death because of that damn day 5 horde.........
  4. 3 points. Wear the glasses to get fort 3 to unlock LotL level 2 and wear them again whenever you need to harvest. Keep them in your farming storage, only time you will need them unless running a fort build. As for the comments on sustainable farming, level 1 means you need to run a big farm, that is not sustainable in my book, if I want to spend my game time tending to a large farm I will play stardew valley. Just because something mathematically works doesn't mean it is sustainable.
  5. It's only a 3 skill point investment to get level 2 in LotL which allows sustanaible farming. Zero and 1 point are just not meant to be used for sustainable farming, they designed it like that, adapt and move on. Level 1 is still good for the harvest so I would take it, just like I take several other 1 pointers with most builds I run.
  6. Easily avoided mining with a bit of pre work which gets a heap of stone anyways. Using steel tools dig straight down to bedrock from your base. Dig out in each cardinal direction on bedrock until you are under the house next door, keep digging from there until you hit gravel, get the auger out and go nuts. Screamers won't be anywhere near your base.
  7. How about instead of digging straight down you dig at a slant so you create a natural ramp from the dirt so that way you can get out and ready to fight in about 1 second.......
  8. It was a very long time ago but I recall dying a lot when I started, I bet most people here do. It isn't as if this game was ever minecraft for adults. It has always been brutal. You made a mistake picking that fight with a bear, now you know better. When I saw the generator quest pop up in my list early game, I thought "no, I am not equiped to take on a POI at night" so I didn't do it. Rules about night don't change just because you are doing a mission.
  9. If I am not running Fortitude build I will go 1 point and I farm exactly like you, I only plant the seeds I loot or get returned. Early game carnivore diet is fine for me and later on when I have excess dukes I will buy fat, eggs and veggies from the trader. They are relatively cheap.
  10. I don't mind the RNG for the non essential stuff, vehicles for example. Sooner or later they turn up at the trader, might not be specifically what you want, but minibike, motorcycle, 4x4, Gyro all go brrrr. What I find frustrating is when my main build weapon is nowehere to be seen. The save before this I ran a fortitude build and when I stopped the save on Day 80, I still hadn't seen the steel knuckles. Then I start a new save using a different skill tree and the trader has the recipe on day 7. Once you max out a skill I think the drop rate on the recipe for the main weapon of that skill should be better.
  11. 1 melee which is always my main attack and 1 firearm for "oh crap" situations. Which ones depends which build I am running. If I am running Intel build then I will also carry my 2 robotic turrets. That's all.
  12. I have voted no but this would absolutely suit my play style because from Day 1, I never loot while doing trader missions. The only thing I do is clear the POI as quickly as possible and return to the trader. This allows me to do 3-4 missions a day and then I go back to those POI's at night and loot them. All the sleepers are cleared so the odd Z from outside isn't going to be a problem, even on Day 1.
  13. I would like to think that a lot of players are not nerd polling or cheesing mission POI's. It would be a shame as I have so much fun on the edge on my seat clearing POI's that cheesing them would just kill the game for me but that's probably why I see some people post that they play max difficulty and are bored and have everything by day 30. As for your problem specifically, the first step I do when setting up my base on day 1 is to make every 2 block doorway into my base as 1 block which I need to actively defend and repair while killing anything that attacks. If you want to call that cheese then I don't know how I am supposed to play a tower defence game without actually having any defences. It will stop the week 1 deaths, allow you to make noise and you will be happy for those wolves, free meat.
  14. Well you could say they forgot a few things about horde night but where should you throw development hours, in making the game better for everyone or closing loopholes for the few that want to cheese? The AFK killing corridor has been a thing for many alphas and you could just do nothing for the entire night using it but I would wager most people want to play the actual game and don't use such builds.
  15. Preparing a POI on Day 1 is basically a hatch frame in every exterior door way. Then if something attacks they will try go through that hatchframe at which point you bash its head in and repair as necessary. I knuckle wraped a dire wolf to death on day 3 by doing this. There is always a risk that Z's will crawl through the 1 block gap but in my experience of A20 so far, this is rare. The thing that kills me consistently every single alpha early game are the wandering dog/wolf hordes. I always seem to be at the wrong place at the wrong time for most of them but with the bicycle unlock guranteed as so early in the game, they are not as bad as previous alphas
