Well, I just paid 30$ for a game that crashes constantly. Why is it still being sold on the Xbox Store?  In my opinion its unethical to continue to sell the game in a permanent alpha status to console players.

    1. Talk to Microsoft. Talk to Sony.

    2. Do research before you purchase anything. The MD5 issue on the Xbox is well documented, and has been for years. There are ways to avoid it also, so you can have a mostly bug-free experience.

Lastly, this thread was closed a while ago. the forum migration apparently un-locked threads. I'll quote Crater's closing comment, and lock it down again.

The following console sections have been merged into [the General Discussion section]:

    Bug Reports

    General Support

This should tell you all you need to know. TFP is happy to provide a place for those who are still playing the game to be able to meet up and talk about things they wish to discuss. Players can help each other out with tips and troubleshooting advice. However, there is no longer any official support or bug fixing going on because there are no planned updates for the current version.

We don't want to send a false message that support and fixes for any issues with the current version of the game are forthcoming and so those sections were closed.

That being said, there does still appear to be a small but dedicated base of fans who haven't had a bad experience with the game and who are still enjoying it for what it is and who continue to be happy to meet up with others and start a new map and play.

For those people [the remaining sections] of the forums [are] planned to remain open indefinitely.

i been away from this forum for a few months as i got fed up with certain mods constantly sticking up for tfp and telltale about this busted @%$*#! game and the lack of any updates...... im back and glad to see the toxicity is still here.. lol

i for one will not be buyuing this game on ps5 if it ever comes out. whats to say tfp wont do exactly whats happened here ?

If TFP decides to to a port, it will be after the game is finished. They won't be selling an Alpha game as a finished product like Telltale did.

  4. tbh its gone way past a joke now. I have the game on pc and can play it by myself....but if i want to play it with my friends who are console only I have to play the very dated and abandoned version. 4 copies of the game between us on ps4 and 2 copies on xbox, do the devs care? well no.

The assets were sold...not sure how that can happen but ok that was years ago. Other games have dealt with this (https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/283392-after-telltales-implosion-the-walking-dead-the-final-season-returns)

Patience only goes so far... not that my loss of patience will correct it, developers have our money and do not care one bit

Part of what you guys fail to realize is that the grand majority of the money you spent on the console version did not go to The Fun Pimps. It went to TellTale, who ♥♥♥♥ed things up and put the console port into the situation it is in.

Then on top of that, TFP went and spent the small percentage of money they had made on the console, PLUS some of the development funds for the PC version, just so they could get the rights back so you would have some hope of something in the future.

And you have the audacity to sit here and blame TFP for something they had little control over. You guys sure have a hard time facing reality. What would you do if TFP just said "♥♥♥♥ it" and shut this entire section of the forum down? Then culled any further discussion on the Console port, and told you to just deal with the fact that TellTale ♥♥♥♥ed you over.

No, instead they have asserted that though it is not financially feasible to continue working on the ♥♥♥♥ed up version you were given by TellTale, they do intend to continue with a new release after they are actually done making the game.

You are a wholly ungrateful lot, and this discussion is most definitely over. All you do is parrot the same crap every few posts and ignore the reality of things.

  5. Well when it takes you 7+ years to work on 1 game that has no clear direction i'd imagine they run through money quick.

We're at 6 and a half years, and 5-7 years in the industry standard for AAA companies with hundreds of developers working on a project. This is a small indie company with a handful of developers designing a game far outside the scope of what anyone else will even consider.

None of you have any idea of the actual costs of development, or what actually gets returned to the devs from store sales. Don't pretend you have any ideas on development either.

  6. Like I suggested on twitter. TFP should try and get Iron Galaxy back to continue doing the console porting updates for this gen. TTG was the publisher but the game is published on console. So no need for them now. Not sure if TTG's get any royalties yet even though went bankrupt. Still shows all 3 companies at the opening credits.

Doubt Iron Galaxy works for free. But people here kept saying they were close to dropping a update before TTG stopped all projects. All I want is the MD5 bug fixed for XBOX1. Anything else extra is a bonus. You factor in 7dtd is still in the store yet for XBOX1/PS4. So its still out there for grabs. So TFP still getting some money for consoles yet. I'm sure it could be sparked up for sale if it went on sale. Not sure what the price is now. I don't even remember what I paid for it a few years ago.

I'm sure you could even add in new content to pay for like new characters or whatever. But if TFP turn their backs for this gen consoles. That wont look good for them for next gen if their aiming for XBOX2/PS5. Bridges burnt then. Yeah TTG was part of the problem. But TFP did get money selling rights to the TTG to port it to consoles. So TFP got money to use to continue working on PC through the hard times.

It will still cost millions of dollars. We've had this discussion already.

So Sylen, Can you educate us on this complex process of porting the update? Or when you say you don’t want to give us false hopes do you know something you don’t want to share with us?

As some have posted that IG actually does the port, so other then the fact it will cost money. Which most of us have asked about a kickstarter, to see if we can offset the cost to TFP.

Maybe you could explain it so we do understand. Or do our requests fall on deaf ears.

First, TFP has to strike a new contract with IG. This will require lawyers, and several months of deliberation. Just this alone will cost a few mil.

Second, IG will need to resume work on the port. Do they have the same team members that worked on it before? If so that will be easier. Otherwise they will almost be starting over from scratch. Just to finish the current build that was almost ready for release will take several months, and will cost several million dollars.

Then once that happens, do they continue? Do they just drop it there? These kinds of things would have been negotiated back in the first step. It does not make sense to spend several million dollars just to release a patch though.

Which leads us to the other issue...

The only thing i need to know about 7 Days and Console is:

    Imagine:

let's say in 2 years, there will be a team that will port the game to console

    maybe it will be A20.

will the console get an update to the same version or will they have

    to buy the game again?

Say they decide to continue and work into aligning the console to the final build. This is going to take a couple of years, and won't be released until after TFP have finished the original PC game. (This is really the next step, because after finishing the next update, any new updates hat aren't hotfixes for current code would require a new save.)

The issue with all of this is that it will break current saves. Both Sony and Microshaft have a rule set against this. So they would be unable to update the current version without designing a new process for keeping the old format semi-compatible. Which will take a lot of time and several million dollars. So in order to release the actual finished version, this will likely require a second game release.

Thank you TTG for ♥♥♥♥ing over console players on this one by announcing an Alpha build as a finished product.

Now after all of that is considered, you have the primary consideration before you even go onto any of this. Money.

Will continued support of the console port be financially feasible?

If TFP goes into this process and spends 30 million dollars on it, is there any chance of recouping that cost? They are a small indie developer. They don't have that kind of money to just throw away. Much research into sales forecasts will need to be done to determine if this will end up at least breaking even. And that also costs money.

So once again, I have given you a detailed description, but kept it simple enough for most people to understand. This is just the tip of what all is involved in doing a port. If you want more details, Google is your friend. I don't know why so many people have a problem using it for finding out simple information.

  7. SUGGESTION!!!

If it is too expensive to fully port or update the console to the pc version, then why not

Open the console versions to allow modding, but no re sale such as Fallout 4 did.

    Why?

It'll help find talented people, restore some trust due to legal issues and make the game as fun as was originally intended.

This would actually take longer, and cost more, than just getting the last update completed and pushed out.

  8. Still the TTG's should of had both options of auto save and manual saves. Besides neither overwriting unless we wanted them to. So that would of gave us a copy right away. Maybe not a exact copy. But seconds apart when you click manual save. Still just then go by the time stamp. Then keep a eye on it when MD5 occurs. Then erase that save all together then. Dawn of man on XBOX1 has auto save and manual save which is nice.

Given the size of the saves, it's almost surprising that Microsoft even allowed the cloud save feature. Dawn of Man is not a fully 3D Voxel game, so it's save files are several times smaller. (There is a big difference between 75kb and 3,145,728kb.)

When your save file can take up several gigabytes of data, you're not going to get multiple versions. Console storage is finite, and isn't easy for the "average Joe" to upgrade whenever they run out of space.

  9. So deleting the local XBOX save works? Then booting up the game loads off of LIVE servers then. Might try that. Another fix but would need a patch is Galaxy/TFP patch in a option to copy a save. Since the option so far is load or delete the saves. Or add in manual save besides the auto save. Need a better way to have a copy of a file. Other wise copying all 6.5GB of 7d2d to another hard drive would get old doing that daily. Not sure how fast I can transfer a game to another hard drive. Should be kinda quick since its in the system. Its not a download. How does the game get a corrupt block? Digging?

The inability to copy saves is a limitation forced my Microsoft. You are able to do this on the Playstation. Playstation doesn't have the MD5 bug like MS does though. And again, that's due to MS's choices on the file system. Why they would use a bastardized version of an out-dated file system is beyond me.

  10. Huh? Is this server under heavy load? We ran on a linux server now up to day 90 with 3-4 players, and the server was only restarted when we added mods or changed the config. Last interval it was running for several weeks 24/7 without any restart. We haven't had any problems yet.

Yeah, I have two popular servers under good load and run three testing instances. If I let it go 24 hours, things start getting wonky. I am exceeding the supported player count.

  11. Do you guys have a recommended restart interval? Right now i am restarting every 8 hours with a cronjob.

    20 6,14,22 * * * /usr/local/bin/7dtd.sh kill naboo && sleep 300 && /usr/local/bin/7dtd.sh start naboo

Could i get away with just restarting once every 24 hours or dose the server get wonky if it runs that long?

I used to do 24 hours, I'm doing 12 now.

  12. I smell a little bit of BS. Because the game was released as EA or Preview status I thought the rules of breaking game saves was allowed because it was released as a preview product. Unless it actually was released as a gold product then that was interesting considering how game breaking each major alpha is there was no way to continue porting new systems or the massive overhaul. The port was not ready and should not have proceeded for a quick buck when the game still has alot of development to go. Hence why most devs wait till a game is complete to port so there is little parity between versions

Except that Telltale chose to release it as a finished product, and not as EA or Preview.

Just another way Telltale ♥♥♥♥ed over console players.

  13. They will need to hire a studio like Iron Galaxy to continue the port. It will still cost millions of dollars.

There is also the major issue with bringing the console build more up-to-date with the PC version requiring all existing save games to be wiped due to compatibility issues, and the console will not allow that. (Sony and MS rules, not a technical issue.)

It's pretty clearly outlined that they want to continue supporting the console, but there's a lot of ♥♥♥♥ that needs to happen first. The outlook is unclear, but they do hope to be successful with it eventually. There are still a lot of financial and legal issues that must be resolved before this will happen.

  14. No and we dont really need them? It's dumb to assume TFP didnt see any profit from the console sales and no matter what percentage that may have been the fact is they used to it further pc development. If its 1% or 70% the money was spent to develop a product other than the product the sales were generated from. For the pure sake of argument lets say they sold 1 million copies on ps4 and a million on xbox at a conservative $10 a copy (way below the $29.99 tag it came out with). Even at 1% that means they had a profit of $200,000. Is anyone seriously going to argue that with even a 1% sale revenue TFP couldnt have worked towards finishing the console versions?

Actually you do if you want to support your argument.

    Let's take a gander.

30% of sales to MS and Sony. This is a known number.

5-10% of sales to TFP for licensing. (Unknown, but pretty common amount)

50% of sales to Iron Galaxy to fund development. (Again, unknown. We know it's not cheap though.)

Remaining 10-15% goes to Telltale profits.

Now, you can also argue that that small % that went to TFP, was used to pay for the support they gave IG in developing the console version. It also could have covered legal fees, and other things regarding the console version itself.

You can't just assume that it directly supported PC development. You can guarantee that it's not enough to cover finishing the console versions.

Which lets be fair, is something TFP have said that they want to do. There are some issue with doing that though, and they've given you a heads up about it.

You guys seem to forget that they are still working on solving this issue. You're all treating it as if TFP said it's the end, for which they most certainly did not.

  15. lol, telltale wanted to do differently?

are we supposed to believe telltale was calling the shots at TFP's

this is getting ridiculous, I know you really, really dont want to accept the TFP's role in this mess but you're not fooling anyone but yourself.

no one forced TFP's to do anything, if the game wasnt ready for port, why was it ported? TT couldn't have moved ahead without TFP's consent and of course a contract.

so, in reality (and I know this is gonna hurt but the truth will set you free) if TFP's were capable of making better business decisions on stuff like this, they likely wouldn't of had to just spend a bunch of money and time to get the rights back to a game that never should have been contracted out in the first place.

The reality is that TellTale approached TFP wanting to do a console port. Yes, TFP gave consent. However TellTale games are who decided to sell it off as a finished product.
