Max Headroom
We've been noticing that the first time we hit a crawling torso it lunges forward, closing the distance. Are you all seeing this as well?
Riamus
Yeah, all the zombies are lunging even when it makes no sense.
4sheetzngeegles
I got a theory/thought/guess but it's probably wrong, but here goes. The animations are based on human reaction, probably due to the lack of dead volunteers. When they did the mocap the people did what was natural to them as human experience has taught them. They stumbled forward because they were not hit with a projectile moving at 300 plus fps. So they presented a more infected alive creature than a dead one. Example: Most visual example I can give to show no major projectile was used. A male zombie is shot in the crotch, and they grab it like they got mule kicked, and exhibit pain animation. Then shoot a female in the same manor the animation is different. Ive seen the same reaction across war games as I watched my son shoot all of his enemies in this manner. If a 20lb medicine ball had been used there would probably have been more of a knock back fetal position pose. But zombies not infected should just react to the force, not exhibit the pain response. They are always presented automatons that only respond to physical stimuli. The state machine just used what it was given at the time.

From a philosophical perspective; consider that we all have been indoctrinated by the entertainment industry to expect certain actions/reactions to common gaming, fighting, and gunfire events. (e.g. being propelled backwards when shot, vehicles exploding when shot, etc.) Mythbusters busted the being propelled backwards from gunfire twice. These actions/reactions do not necessarily represent what really happens. Not saying 7d2d should/should not lean into these expectations, just that our expectations are not really any more accurate than 7d2d implementations.
4sheetzngeegles
@8_Hussars You are correct in the assertion, that's why I also added this line. "They are always presented automatons that only respond to physical stimuli." Meaning historical, and theatrical representations of zombies.
