main level:  dart trap(s)  behind them, the tripwires posts

behind that, but 1 block down, the electric posts.

that caught the spiders and everything else.

In A21 you get the same result if you turn the electric fences upside down.

  2. @faatal I have a question about the electric fences. I noticed that the wire between two fences snaps to a lower point than in A20. Has that something to do with the bug that the wire eventually jumps over to a point in the distance and when you restarted the game everything was back to normal ?

Mmm tasty data.   That makes the feedback way better and more robust.  Makes it easier for people and the devs to give solid answers, should any exist.  Or identify an issue if one exists.

I think I have a possible explanation. I did a little digging in the XML files and it seems that the tool parts for the most part are capped by lootstage. They are in the ProbT1Cap group that starts with lootstage 42. Up to lootstage 41 the probability to find any tool part is zero.

You can find them in Working Stiff crates without the lootstage cap but they only have a 50% change to spawn while other items in the same loot table have a 75% to spawn and only one item from this group spawns in a Working Stiff crate.

They are, but, have you noticed how FEW you need to make the tools now?  Sorta balances it all out in my opinion.

I noticed that, but unfortunately it does not quite balance it out. Steel tool parts and motor tool parts are used for harvesting tool, repairing tool, and salvaging tools. You need steel tool parts for the steel axe, the steel pickaxe, the steel shovel, and the ratchet. And you need motor tool parts for the auger, the chainsaw, the nailgun and the impact driver.

Are you perked into weapons?  (this increases their part drops too)
Are you perked into Miner 69er? (this increases tool part drops too)

One of my first point went into the Miner 69er and I leveled it pretty much equally to my weapon perk. I am perked into shotguns and clubs, and I found plenty of parts for both, but surprisingly almost no parts for tools. I have more parts for weapons I am not perked into than for tools.

anecdotal here, but i perked into sledge and miner 69r early on (not sure if 1 point vs 5 points makes a difference though? Tho I would say I levelled them about equal amounts) but I ended up with over 50 sledge parts and maybe 5 steel parts by day 28. This is only based off of 1 game though

Pretty much the same here. Day 25 and I only found 11 steel tool parts and 10 motor tool parts in total. But I found over 50 steel club parts and 30 shotgun parts.

I spread my points pretty evenly between my tools and my weapons. I even have a point into salvage operations which should help with the parts as well.

How are the zombies spawned in for the police cars? Is it random or is it supposed to be scaled? Are they supposed to be like only doable with a couple machine guns or something? 5 ferals with 2 being whites vs level 9 with a pipe pistol and bat was absolutely no chance.

As I understand it, these are always ferals zombies. It is random whether zombies spawn or not but I don't know how high the chance is. However, you can prevent this from happening by opening the police car with lock picks.

it's weird, my save from 313 is still fine. wonder why so many people got wiped and others not.

Mine seems fine too but I haven't looked too much into it. It seems your character profile can also be half broken. You still have your level and your crafting skills but no point in any perk. Then you have to drink a Fergit'n Elixir and redistribute your points.

s the forest is within sight, I could end up making my horde base outside as looting POI's is GOOD in the desert!

With the forest so close, you could even exploit the game mechanics a little if you wanted to.

The gamestage is locked as soon as the horde starts. So if you build a horde base on the border between forest and desert and you quickly run over to the desert after the horde starts, you have a forest horde with a desert lootstage. 😁

A lot of people are complaining of spawning at level 1 after the update; it seems it happens randomly. I play with my brother, and our progress isn't affected. Is there something we can do to prevent this from future updates? I know it's experimental but a21 is so good and i want to play it now xD

If it really happens at random, it is best to make a backup of the game state before you start and when the character is reset you can restore the backup and try if it happens again.

If your goal in building is to survive the bloodmoon horde then cobblestone is quite on par with the horde you get at that time and not useless.

In A21, it depends on which biome you're in. In the desert, a horde on day 7 might be too much for cobblestone, and if you're in the winter biome or the wasteland, concrete is the absolute minimum. But for the pine forest, the point is true. I fought the day 7 horde in a cobblestone base and had hardly any damage.

My Observations have made me think that the desert is now the easy mode for Alpha 21.

Just a quick note on this. In A21, the game stage depends on the biome you are in. So you will encounter feral zombies much earlier in the desert and the hordes are much harder.

If you feel that it is. If not, take Daring Adventurer and go to the wasteland. You can control how long or how soon it happens.

For me, a week of running around with stone tools and primitive weapons is perfectly fine. Especially when you consider that the iron tools on Q1 are worse than Q5 stone tools. It just shouldn't be significantly longer. If we are still using stone tools after 3 weeks, I would consider that too slow.

My post was meant as a counterweight to the "The progress is too fast" posts. Progress in the Learn by Reading system is based on how much you loot and if you are lucky. Even with all the balancing in the world, you can't change that.

I avoid putting points into Daring Adventurer because I don't like that it boosts the trader stage so much and I limit myself to one quest per day. And I haven't found the Wasteland yet.

It is around 50% random. We found that the great majority of the time we all just took the 9 magazines making the other choices pointless. I did a quest for testing today, did not get the magazines as a choice and was like, wow I have to think about what I want.

Yes the magazine bundles are tempting and I have to admit that the only time I chose something else was when I was offered a helmet light.

But it also makes sense that players prefer the magazine bundles. The magazines are the carrot that dangles in front of the nose. You always want to unlock something.

I don't know how long they want the stone age to last but they do want it to last beyond a few days.

I fought the day 7 horde with a wooden club and had stone tools until day 8. Does that count as "long enough" ?

Because building a self-sustaining base is the main goal for me.

    Same here.

I am doing one quest a day and so far the progress is reasonable, although in some areas not as fast as in A20. In other areas it is almost too fast.

This is the drawback of the Learn by Reading system. It depends a lot on luck. Personally, I'm not a fan of relying on luck, so the ability to unlock recipes via perks was a good thing if you were unlucky in your search for the schematics.

I am on day 19 (3rd real life day) and I cannot build a workbench. I cannot find the forge magazines anywhere. And as I am night blind there is nothing for me to do during nights (yes gamma and brightness are up).

Put a point into Advanced Engineering. That should increase your chances to find more magazines but it is random after all. I got most of my forge magazines from magazine bundles for completing trader quests.

Quick question about glue (maybe it was already answered elsewhere):

Why is glue requiring clean water instead of murky water now? (I don't want to eat my duct tape 😉 )

Yes, but the glue adheres much better when it is made with clean water.

The explanation is quite simple. You can only find murky water, but you can no longer craft it or fill up empty jar due to the lack of said jars. Therefore, it would be problematic for players who have a high consumption of glue if they could only use murky water.

I can, for example, build 5 or 6 dew collectors just for glue production and thus passively collect enough water for 100 glue per week.

Don't know about the rest of you, but I was tired of tossing out empty jars and empty food cans after eating and drinking to save inventory space and I'm glad I don't have to now. Definitely a good byproduct of the water change.

In my case it is the opposite. I have kept cans and jars for oil and glue production.

I think it's just human nature that most people hate change. It would be interesting to see if this change had always existed in the game if people would be really care as much.

Surely not. I think not many people are bothered by the fact that you do not need water nearby for the plants to grow, but that was different in an earlier alpha and it would be more realistic.

Also, not all changes affect everyone equally. In an agility play-through, I was using exploding crossbow bolts for horde night. I was using up to 100 pieces of duct tape a week just for that. On the other hand, someone using a machine gun, for example, does not need duct tape to make ammunition.

I mean Melee bandits are fine, those are nothing more then a new zombie type, its the gun using laser beam enemies I am worried about. Heard thats partly why bandits got delayed till a22 in the first place. The fact TFP can't get them to just not be laser beam aimbots due to the fact the guns uses a instahit raycast/hit scan system.

You mean the "bandits" you often see in mods ? As far as I know, they only use the models that are already in the game, but then use their own AI, which is more of an Aimbot than something you could call AI.

I'm sure when the real bandits are in vanilla, they will shoot with stormtrooper accuracy.

I just noticed that some textures are flickering in the game, has anyone noticed it? I mostly see it on roads, crosswalk lines, but also noticed some wall texture flickering.

I don't know if this is something all people are affected by or just Linux, which I do use to play the game (Ubuntu) I am also on AMD card (rx 6650xt), everything set to high, except shadows turned off.

I managed to catch a case where it does that:

Same here also on Linux. Seems to me like Z-fighting.

I think it should be balanced for questing and looting, but I think the Crack-A-Book stores give way too many magazines at the moment.

That's funny because in A20 it was the other way round. You mainly got paper and only a few schematics or books.

That was also one of the main concerns about the Learn by Reading system, that this trend would continue and you would only find heaps of paper and no magazines.

I'm not sure how the devs feel about it (I would like if they comment about their intended progression speed), but if it was up to me as I stated before I would ideally have you during the first whole week in just primitive stuff.

I actually had only primitive weapons and tools for the first week. I fought my first horde with a Q5 wooden club.

Currently I am on day 10 and have Q5 iron tools. I could theoretical craft steel tools but don't have enough parts. So this will take a while but is not a big deal.

What I could buy from the trader is pretty much on par with what I can craft but that's only because I haven't invested any points in Daring Adventurer and limit myself to one quest per day. Otherwise, the trader would sell me T3 items by now.
