I feel personally that I get to geared and set up way to quickly. I also play on survivalist difficulty, pointing this out so others cannot just say stop playing on easy.

The difficulty setting only affects how much damage you do to the zombies, how much damage the zombies do to you, and how often the rage mode kicks in. If you want to slow down how fast you get high quality gear you would have to play with reduced loot or with reduced XP.

You might wanna try the Undead Legacy mod. There the progress is much slower.

If it was re-implemented I don't think that'll have as much impact as you think.

I think it would have a greater impact today than back when it was still in the game. Back then you had 600 quality levels, no mod slots, and except for the auger, no tool required anything you couldn't craft yourself.  In addition, you could increase the quality when you combined items in the workbench. For example, you had 10 steel picks with quality 500 and you could combine them up to quality 600.

  3. The problem is when you change mechanics in an EA game there will always be players who preferred the old mechanics because it worked for them.

And as for the placeholder issue, that seems to me to simply be a term for something that has been changed. At the end of the development you have a placeholder that has been replaced by a placeholder that is replaced by something that might be a placeholder again. You don't know what is a placeholder and what is not until the game is finished.

Good day, when will alpha 21 be released? Nobody wrote about it? How much to wait?

There is no definite date yet. The latest information we got is that it will not be released next Monday and it is uncertain if it will be released the following Monday. I wouldn't hold my breath and expect at least another 2-4 weeks before the experimental will drop.

Or is it a cleaner presentation of the facts you are after?

A clean presentation of the facts would be a good thing.

For example, when it was announced here in the forum that there will be no more empty jars in A21, it was a post with only one or two sentences. Only by asking questions did we learn more. A community manager usually prepares the information in a way that many questions are answered in advance.

I am talking about official updates of course and not just "i guess june is more likely" by the forum moderator. I guess you didnt got my point and thats okay for me.

Yeah the Fun Pimps have room for improvement when it comes to communicating. I hope they hire a community manager for the next game who will take care of such things.

Is it bad that I'm hoping it misses another week and slips til the 10th-12th weekend? 😝 Purely selfish reasons of course

    Let me guess. Diablo 4 ? 😉

EDIT: By the way I also hope for the 10th-12th weekend. Has nothing to do with Diablo but my favorite streamer is out of town during the first weekend in june.

With that said, It is most likely not happening this coming Monday.

I would have been surprised if it would have been the next Monday. May 29th is Memorial Day as far as I know and the employees in the US will probably have the day off.

This isn't a big deal to anybody but TFP.

    I would disagree on that.

It's also a big deal for the streamers who can participate in Streamer Weekend. They have to make preparations for that and they can't plan anything else for that time period. I have seen streamers who were accepted for the Streamer Weekend not being able to stream because they were unfortunately out of town. So at least for the streamers in the green room it would be quite handy if they knew 2-3 weeks in advance when the streamer weekend will take place.

I can't see any need for another trailer next to the one from Paulie.

Yes, almost 10 years old, from a totally outdated alpha...but can never be outmatched if you ask me.

A trailer or teaser per alpha would be a good way to highlight new features and create additional hype. Coffe Stain Studios does this for updates of Satisfactory.

Basically some gameplay with dramatic background music. You can see how this could look like on the Guns Nerds and Steel channel.

Out of curiosity, what types of bugs don't require programmers? Is that something like POI designs and art?

Off the top of my head, I can think of various bugs that don't require a programmer. For example, problems with balancing or problems with textures or structural problems in POIs. Many bugs I have seen in past alphas could be fixed simply with changes to the XML files. You don't need a programmer to do that.

And level designers can fix the POIs where, for example, a part collapses when you place a block and the stability is recalculated.

Or various problems with quests. For example, I remember a bug where a spawn point was floating in the air and you couldn't complete the quest because the zombie couldn't spawn.

You can't still buy them?  Granted, that means using a trader, which some people won't do.  It would be strange to me to see a solo player only building (or building and mining), but I suppose it happens.

As I understand it, you can also buy magazines from the trader, but it is random which magazines the trader has in his stock. In the first dev stream you saw that trader Bob had 5 different magazines in his stock.

    https://youtu.be/btVghGVsZLQ?t=3180 (53:00)

Another way to get magazines is as a reward for quests. These are also random.

And as for looting. Not everyone likes looting.

For me, it's not my favorite activity either. I do it because it's necessary, but I don't feel the excitement that many players seem to feel when they open loot containers. For me it is much more satisfying to create something.

I invest quite a bit of time in mining resources and building. Therefore, the most pressing question for me is of course about the balancing.

I think this will stay a possible way to fight horde night, at least in early and mid-game. TFP could  put weak blocks into its most sturdy building. Either as damaged blocks or fake-blocks (i.e. wood blocks that look like concrete). That would make this take a little more work.

@Laz Man hinted in a recent post that newer POIs will be designed so that the AI has multiple paths to the top. That should make things more interesting when it comes to last minute bases.

But I think he was assuming that most players who take over POIs do it because they just want to quickly destroy access to the second floor and simply shoot from above and not enhance anything or add any defenses.

Exactly. At least that is what I saw a lot of times. At best they place some wood spikes but that is it. No further reinforcements. Often gas stations or POIs like the working stiff are used because they are sturdy and have only one way to lead up to the roof.

  15. 8 minutes ago, BFT2020 said:

The only thing that affects would be the dropped bags from the zombies during horde night, and assuming that they drop inside the POI boundary.

That is not the problem. For example, the parking lot of a hospital is part of the POI. If you build a small horde base there, you have the tier 5 loot bonus.

  16. 6 minutes ago, Riamus said:

I'd be interested in seeing where this is stated.  I've never heard of this and it really doesn't make much sense.  Lootstage is affected by biomes but shouldn't be affected by having a base in a specific POI.  After all, you know how easy it would be to just change the POI tier of any POI to tier 5 just to get a bonus?  That would be pretty poor design, imo.

    From the A20 Release Notes:

    • Loot Progression Improvements include a new Loot Stage System, Biome and Tiered POI loot bonuses and early game balance

It is explained in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dB5-qcR5sEY&t=197s (from 3:17)

Funnily enough, I believe that you get a lootstage bonus if you set up your base in a High Tier POI right now.

So technically you could argue you're incentivized to build your base in POI.

That's what I thought afterwards. Then it would actually only be fair if a base that you build from scratch also gets a bonus.

  18. 24 minutes ago, Riamus said:

Why does the game need to incentivize building a base from scratch?

It does not need it but it would be a way to make up for the time and effort builders put into their builds. A way to show a little love.

    28 minutes ago, Riamus said:

An incentive just pushes people to do something they may not really want to do.

Funny that you mention it because, as you wrote before, there are builders that don't really want to loot.

    30 minutes ago, Riamus said:

Besides, when it comes down to it, there is already incentive in the amount of experience you get if you use the upgrade method of building rather than building with steel from the start.

XP are nothing unique to building. You can get XP from many sources. For example selling items.

An incentive would be for example that you a get slightly more loot drops or a small boost on your loot stage.

If you place a block you are by definition building, regardless of where it is in an existing structure or not. If people enjoy setting up a base in an existing building, let them. If you enjoy building from scratch, go ahead.

Where did I ever say that I would want to prohibit players from using POIs as bases?

I only said that building has become meaningless in the game because a lot of the existing POIs are more than sufficient both as a base and can be easily secured by removing a few blocks. If someone builds bases scratch then he does it because he likes to do it but there is no incentive in the game to do so.

Does your definition of "build" not count completely retrofitting a POI into a base or horde base?  To me, that is still under the umbrella of building.  Literally none of the online videos I watch today that also played back then just stand on a roof and shoot down.  I don't mean that as an exaggeration but none of them refrain from building/modifying.

I build almost all of my home bases and horde bases from scratch, as I have from back them.

It depends on how extensive these modifications are. Knocking down a few blocks and maybe adding a roof against vultures doesn't really count as building for me. But this is what I see a lot of times.

Take a look at the videos from Guns Nerds and Steel or WaywarEko. What these players are doing is building.
