Besides, unless I'm mistaken, my understanding is that the increased chance of finding the magazines doesn't reduce the chance of finding the other magazines.

This is actually not possible. As I understand it, the combined probability for the contents of a loot container is always 100%. So if you assign a slightly higher probability to one item to appear then the probability of the others is automatically reduced. I would compare this to a 16 sided dice with the same number on two sides.

  2. From what I've seen in the streams so far, the trader rebalancing hasn't really worked out that well.

As far as I know, the idea was that the trader would only offer items that were only a little better than what you could find or craft. But if you do enough quests and put points into Daring Adventurer, you can buy items that are far better than what you can find or craft. Grand Spartan bought a Q5 M60 on day 10 and WaywardEko bought a Q3 Steel Spear on day 8.

By the way. Grand Spartan had a Q5 Pipe Machine Gun before and WaywardEko a Q5 Stone Spear. So much to "No skipping technology tiers anymore".

This guy is pretty good. He's a little overconfident. I've done that too. He doesn't play the agility build the same way I do. It's good to see a different way.

If you want to see him a little less confident you should watch his "One Shot Kill" series. That was a challenge where the zombies can kill you with a single hit.

So far all of the a21 previews shun the bow and use the spear or club.

Temreki from Gun, Nerds and Steel uses the bow and the knife in his streams. The perk list is mostly the same except that Flurry of Blows has been renamed to Whirlwind.

With vending machines and the trader what exactly makes the dew collector worth crafting?

I can give you 4 reasons why a dew collector is still something you want to have.

    1. Once the dew collector is built, it provides water for free. You always have to pay for the water in the vending machine.
    2. You can build as many dew collectors as you need. If you need large amounts of water for your game, you can build more dew collectors but you can not build more vending machines.
    3. The dew collector is a reliable source of water. The amount of water in the vending machines varies.
    4. You can have your water source where you want it and do not depend on having your base near a working vending machine. If you want, you can even build the dew collector underground, as long as there is a connection to the top.

ok, just watching jawoodles second stream.  he just found a workbench in the wild that works! is this a thing again?

There is no mention of this in the release notes. Maybe the level designer accidentally placed a working workbench instead of the helper block.

EDIT: I watched part of the stream and found the scene

And as a sort of final comment on it - *why* are we again changing the dang perks? They were *fine* before and have been fine for quite a long time 😕 I love everything else in this update but the new system (and again, I've played this since like, early 2014) just seems the most convoluted/weird/unnecessary out of all the changes I've seen from the game over the past 9/10 years.

The reasoning was that you could skip technology levels in the old system. The developers want you to work your way up through the technology levels.

The second reason was that you could build a Q5 steel pickaxe once you found the schematics. You didn't have to start at Q1.

Both problems could have been solved in other ways, but the developers settled on the learn by reading system which is good for players that like looting but not so good for players that don't.

I'm rarely the type of person to go and make an account on a game forum lol. Maybe I'm just getting old and it feels like the grocery store has rearranged its aisles again, but I'm not sure this really should have been overhauled the way it was done, if it should have been overhauled at all.

I feel the same way. And the worst are these posters who say "We are rearranging the store for you" which is just a lie. The structure of the store is changed so that the customer has to search for the items he wants to buy and on the way he passes shelfs  where he might buy something he original didn't want to buy.

You’re placing too much emphasis on the perk boost. The boost isn’t a min/max mechanic that makes it stupid for certain people to open certain containers. It is simply a safety net so that you don’t get completely screwed by RNG and never find the mags you need. Your looters will find a wide variety of magazines especially with multiple people all looting and questing. They will find plenty of cooking, farming, and building type mags even if they’re perked into machine guns. I’ve often been able to craft a better unperked weapon than my perked weapon for a time because it is still random and the boost guarantees nothing other than never not finding what you need.

It has always been said that it is a safety net but then you would expect an approximate equal distribution in the magazines. But if you look at the streams, you'll notice that players are finding significantly more magazines for their specialization. Either luck is on the players side or the boost is bigger than you think.

It's empty?  Odd.  I know I saw a bug in a stream Friday.  Decimal point error on item comparison when comparing a tier 4 bone knife to a tier 1 hunting knife.  The bone knife said it had over 700 damage with over 1200 power attack damage.  I'd switch to knives if they had that kind of damage!  Only after equipping and unequipping it did the comparison correct itself back to 7.3 damage (1/100 of the bug display).

Maybe the streamers report the bugs in the green room which is this time a Discord server. I also saw the bug with the bone knife. It seemed to be a display error.

If that person is in charge of crafting tools then everyone in the group needs to feed that player tool crafting mags and let that guy craft tools for everyone.

The disadvantage of such a specialization is that you have to rely on this person. If the person is not online, then you can collect all the magazines you want, but no one will be able to make better tools for the group.

The RNG works in favor of the person doing the looting - and unless the person doing the looting is spec'd into the same thing the person back at the base building is spec'd into, their odds of getting that drop are lower than the looting person who has the increased chances for their particular spec - is that correct?

In theory, the person doing the looting should also find other magazines, but in the streams I've seen that the boost from the perks is more noticeable than expected.

So, what's going on with the water thing? So there's no more Empty Glass Jars? So what? You drink from a water source only? I'm confused.

You can find murky water in loot, you can buy water and drinks from vending machines and you build dew collectors which give you 3 clean water per day.

I imagined someone would reply something this stupid.

Your suggestion would work perfectly, if I wanted all loot to be that way and not just water. :rolleyes2:

Not all loot. According to the patch notes, some loot tables are exempt from the loot setting. But yes basically most other loot would be reduced too but at least you would no longer have a reason to complain about too much water.

  13. One thing I've noticed is that the loot boost you get from the Perks doesn't seem to be as subtle as it's always been said. It's always been said that it's mainly a safety net so that you're guaranteed to find magazines and parts that fit your specialization, but the differences are very clear.

This is good for single player but in co-op it could be a disadvantage.

But I'm disappointed by the water survival changes. Haven't seen anyone in the streams struggle for water, even just a bit, in the first few days.

I think it depends a lot on your play style. I've seen streamers who were questing a lot and streamers who were more casual looters and mostly just wandering around. The second group struggled a lot more.

And I came here guys to continue begging to add a pet in the form of a wolf or a dog to the game to help players as a living being who will support and entertain you in this dangerous world of the zombie apocalypse.

We have the drone as a flying companion because it would have been too difficult to code a companion that walks on the ground and has to follow you. Even the drone has to teleport or fly through walls and ceilings to follow you.

Its amazing anyone including TFP cares about Navezgane anymore with the quality of RWG.   Navezgane seems like wasted effort.   All good though, i still get to play RWG.

The FunPimps love environmental storytelling. This works even better with a hand crafted map.

It worked REALLY well in A19. Now they seem to run to the posts and hammer on them.

There is a difference in the behavior of the zombies compared to A19. A small portion of the zombies randomly go into area destruction mode. In addition, they also go into area destruction mode when other zombies are blocking the path.
