tl;dr is pls divide every duke amount in the game by 1000.

Why do i find 20.000 dukes in a chest and pay for anything 40.000 then.

I like it generally when a game use low numbers, people can work better with them. The oppodite of Diablo3.

Zombies have low hundred uo to 2k hp. Thats perfect. You get my point.

Prices necessarily vary considerably based on what you buy. If you divide everything by 1000, are you going to either use change for something like a bullet? Depending on your barter skill, that can be a range of around 10-25 or so.  Divide by even 100 and it will still be under 1 duke.  Do you raise prices on cheap items in order to lower prices on expensive items?  Do you make expensive items cheap?

There isn't any way way to reduce the amount of dukes other than to have multiple currency like the different casino chip values.  Then you could have smaller numbers, but multiple sizes mean multiple spaces.  They could make money sending that is just a value you have without having a physical item taking up space.

But just to reducing values by dividing by 1000 isn't going to work well.  I think a suitable option is just to increase the stack size to 100,000 instead of 20,000.

I would like to discourage you from thinking that force enabling a sort of balance with a simple 'divide by x' is going to work the way you think it will.

Meh, if you can't take the extra seconds to parse long (large) numbers into groups of three (should have learned this ability before junior school), and understand what the hell it is that you are looking at, then well, don't try to count your money. I can help. For a small fee.

What Riamus said. The progression requires items that are orders of magnitude more or less expensive than other items. You need high end items like solar panels and gyrocopters to be ten thousand times more expensive than dirt, or else you flatten the progression curve. So everything could be scaled down, but only if you introduce cents/fractions of a Duke, because you need that precision for cheap items, which can be bought in bulk. So effectively, you'd just be moving the decimal point over on everything.

Almost all units in this game, in absolute terms, don't matter. I can pour 1 unit of gas into my motorcycle and think of it as a liter, or 1000 units and think of them as milliliters. The UI might work better with one than the other, but the difference is superficial. The intent is to inflate the numbers just the right amount so they can be subdivided by skill modifiers and whatnot without losing too much precision.

Are you trying to middle-man the subtext of my own idea back at me?   That's bold.

It did present itself as a potential opportunity 😁. But I do have a good line on some bitcoin (still big numbers though...lol).
