  1. I only use crowbar power attacks on locked loot crates anymore. If there is a safe or wall safe also, then its a big chance that the wench in white will try to ruin your day. So yes, I can pick the locks but its so very convenient to just smash and grab the loot and get the hell out. Bank POI's are a deathtrap. Crowbar a few wall safes and you'd best get running to the exit!
  2. I'll offer up my ramble then. A21.2 DF V5.00 B29. I usually choose Laborer Class first. This time I went with Hunter Class because of the silenced hunting rifle. I then chose Scientist Class (which was such a bad choice since it took forever to get all the chemistry station stuff together...forgot about the acid bottles). Then Farmer Class (to grow ink stuff) and as of now Laborer Class too. I won't go that route again (no early miner's helmet for the rainstorms and mining, no early forges, etc). Crafted the first Workbench and then the Metals Workbench. Maybe both by day 20. By day 50 I realised I couldn't craft a regular Workbench anymore. Wait, I crafted the first one...what the hell? Reading multiple Workbench perks (their book icons were open, i.e. 'read') didn't help. I had to use skill points under Laborer (level 2 of Advanced Engineering) to finally craft my second Workbench. I'm not at Laser Workbench level yet. Hope these symptons don't continue. However, this latest release has changed where skill notes (Mining, Athletics, Rifles, etc) now display an open book icon when we've reached level 100 for them (Yay!). Just a swag, but could this be related?
  3. The Player Working Sink will not allow you to fill clay bowls. Only empty glass jars can be filled with clean water.
  4. The door that you can not open yet is in Dr Ana's place. I am guessing from your toolbelt inventory that you are still in the early stages of the game. But, you will need a black keycard called a Portal Power Source to open this door. To get the black keycard: First, do a lot of jobs for the Scout (she lives in the Trader's fort). Complete enough jobs for the Scout and she will give you a job to visit Trader Razor. Do some jobs for Razor, then he will give you a job to see Eve the Mercenary. Do some Jobs for Eve and she will then send you to visit Dr Ana. At this stage, Dr Ana will have a 'retrieve the supplies' job called Research From Hell (it's in the Wasteland). The Research From Hell facility is big and dangerous. But the supplies satchel isn't that deep into the Hell lab, so you can get it (without going deeper into the lab) and return to Dr Ana. Dr Ana will then reward you with one Portal Power Source keycard. But...if you use the black keycard on that door, there are no other black keycards inside that loot room. This is important, because you will need a black Portal Power Source card to craft your first laser workbench! So, you can either do Dr Ana's Research From Hell job again and get another card, maybe buy a keycard, or if you are prepared, you can find a Portal down in the last room of the Research From Hell Laboratory. Destroy the Portal with a wrench, ratchet, impact driver or a laser tool to get a few extra Portal Power Source cards. Either way, you only need two black Portal Power Source cards for the game. One card for the first laser workbench, and the other card to open Dr Ana's loot room. Oh, and Eve the Mercenary will have a job that requires the red/green/blue keycards, and the Research Rescue From Hell will also need the red/green/blue keycards.
  5. OK then. No matter when the service was terminated, my gut feel is that since the recent Unity engine financial charge 'fiasco' hit, TFP would be reluctant to pursue any further plugin compatability with Unity. Seems it was pushed by Amazon? Oh what a web they weave. Is TFP running blind? So, no telemetry at this stage? It'd be refreshing to know what's actually going on.
  6. But as I understand it, every SP game is a server-based Unity game - my machine is a server for one participant. And if my machine is indeed acting like a server, I don't suspect that the sheer number of SP games being played at any one time would stop any entity from gathering information from it, provided of course that ability is embedded in my server settings. Am I paranoid? No. Distrustful? Yes, a lot.
  7. Well, the best that I can determine without digging too deeply is that is what GameSparks did do prior to its 'retirement' at the end of March 2022. (What is GameSparks? (back4app.com)). Now whether 'retirement' means that all its functions have ceased to operate or that the system is just no longer supported is another question. I'm with @Morloc in asking the same question: What, if anything, is TFP using to monitor how 7DtD is played at this time?
  8. Well then. Admittedly it's been a while since I've heard Madmole speak in a video, but for the life of me I always thought it was Joel who recorded the opening and closing announcements for the Trader (because he could). The voice actor is talented though. Must be that drawl regional to the border regions Texas shares with Arizona. 🙂
  9. But molotovs and flaming arrows/bolts do work. Maybe the burnt zombies just needed to be cooked a little longer. The OP's explanation was interesting. Yet, the image (model) for a battery bank shows all the car batteries to be wired in series (increasing voltage, not amperage). So somewhere in all this there's some wires crossed. Not that it matters 'cause its a game, not a simulator.
  10. My preferred setting for fog is F1 weather fog 0 Because for some reason, I just despise fog. No matter what its in-game probability is 😎 But only an admin can do it in a MP game...
  11. I am guessing that you mean 'read the notes'? I suspect many of us have skimmed over 'notes' and later realise that it would have gone better had we paid closer attention. Mistakes happen. 🤬 Learn by doing, not so?
  12. And if you've not figured it out yet, that voice belongs to Madmole (Joel Heunink). Overseer of all trading posts and other important stuff related to the game (since he's one of the game's co-founders).
  13. I suspect that the lack of bears in the pines is a way to restrict the ability to gather testosterone needed to craft a stogie. Come into the wilds boy Craft a cigar You're gonna go far... You're gonna fly high You're never gonna die You're gonna make it if you try... Well, its a thought anyway. And not too bad of an earworm, eh? We call it 'Riding the Alpha train' ...
  14. Thats probably the next item that gets nerfed in the game. Stumbling about without a headlamp for weeks will be the 'balance' implemented to slow down resource gathering. Oh please, no.
  15. Dunno the true benefit. The UL overhaul mod does indeed display a speedometer while you're in/on one of the many available vehicles. A numerical value for my speed is nice to know I suppose, and perhaps an easy way to compare the performance of various vehicles. I'll maybe glance at it once or twice and then its a matter of 'OK, I know this now. This vehicle is is faster or not as fast as another'. Beyond that, it just creates clutter on the HUD that I subconsciously ignore. And I can still go faster than the spitting cops. Lol.
  16. And that's one of the reasons we have more than one way to to get our hands on some antibiotics. 🤢
  17. You're not alone. I am looking forward to the next version of Undead Legacy myself (though I really enjoyed Darkness Falls as well). Both @KhaineGBand @Subquake and their teams have done awesome work with their interpretations of the game. Tbh, UL addressed the over abundance of drinking/crafting water during early to mid game before we were ever faced with having to deal with dew collectors and the removal of jars in A21 vanilla. Whats instore with magazine progression will hopefully be refreshing. Yeah, off topic (kinda) but if vanilla is the only gameplay one knows, delving into some mainstream overhaul mods like those mentioned here might just be the key for extending one's enjoyment of 7Dtd. Its worked for me 😊
  18. The rain by its self isn't too bad. It's the associated darkness that kinda irks me. May as well hit up the mine, even though my headlamp seems woefully underpowered on a cloudy day. Fill my backpack to the limit with ore then later bask in the radiant warmth of my forge as those valuable ingots pile up. If I remember to, I'll pat myself on the back later.
  19. Well. Polynesian cannibals refered to human flesh as 'long pig'. Don't think they had an equivalent word for Chianti though. Any fermented gruel would probably have sufficed. 🍷 The macabre term long pig for ‘human flesh used as food’ dates from the mid-nineteenth century. It is supposedly a translation of an expression used in the language of a cannibal people of the southwestern Pacific rim. - per Long pig - Oxford Reference. I'd wager they were naked at some point during dinner though.
  20. I agree here. I also play mostly solo, and find that no matter my best intentions, there's always some item or resource that I find myself lacking (or simply have too much of). Okay, fall back and harvest/craft and then go out looting or questing again. Oh, and check the clothing/armor/melee/guns/tools/parts/etc storage crates before you go out because they are starting to overflow....sell or scrap or craft more crates for the excess. Then rearrange the storage so my hoarded items are in 'logical' order. By no means a complaint, it just takes time. It takes time away from glorious looting, the lost time of questing to gain (hopefully) good rewards and just the plain fun of exploring. New POI? Yes! Dastardly hidden zombies? Assured. But I do feel TFP has tried to make the experience engaging and wants us to stay with a play through, rather than just restart and see what RNG throws on the table this time around. That said, I must admit that I'm still on A20 in the Undead Legacy mod. Because well, I haven't quite embraced the non-jar dew collector concept, and I have way too many hours invested in this session. However, your point still stands. Time and inventory management is an integral part of the game. And the sooner a player grasps the concept, the smoother (portions of) the game becomes.
  21. This is an odd choice of a word to target as 'offensive' while TFP continues to use the word pimp in its company name. Try and start that uproar and see if it gets any more traction here than this perceived need to rename a dreadful hairstyle.
  22. Oooooh. Yes, I did push them neatly next to each other as well (on virgin soil). Who'd of thought that to be an issue? But, once bitten twice shy. Not quite the trigger for a rage quit, but disheartening to have to start another session after advancing far enough in a play-through to be able to place them in the first place. Live and learn. I'll pass on the ore extractors for now, as I mentioned earlier they're not really OP as is, so minimal impact on my game. Thanks for the insight, and your mod (overhaul) fits my play style perfectly. I'm looking forward to your next release.
  23. Yep, but since we need an engine to be able to research the motorcycle repair manual in the first place, finding that first engine can sometimes take longer than it seems it should. RNG is not always nice to us. Then again, in this last play through I found the first motorcycle engine while looting (not wrenching) a car, but it was around day 40 (60-minute days). So you never know...
  24. So, I read your post and thought 'Well that's just messed up.' Just so happens that I had four of those ore extractors queued up in my crafting table. Ya know, day 148 (60 minute days), I could use some more titanium without having to mine for it. So, I placed them away from my base (not far enough away it seems). I returned from a Trader run in a neighboring city and now can't get home. Yep, same symptoms as you experienced. Get within a certain distance of the 'chunk' and I am getting kicked to desktop. Now, in a previous run I had two ore extractors, an oil well, three chicken coops and five apiaries with no issues. This time I have the same number of chickens, bees and a single oil well. But I doubled the amount of ore extractors this time. Something is up with those mining rigs.... I think we're both screwed. I am going to start a new random world. I really like UL and not fond of the new TFP A21. This time I won't mess with ore extractors (tbh they didn't yield a lot, I did it for the chance to get titanium). See? Getting titanium has its risks....in our case its 'game over'. A20.6 UL 2.6.13 i7 @ 2.2 GHz 32 GB RAM Windows 10 270 GB free space on the SSD RTX3060 Will try to download UL 2.6.17 for the next run.
  25. A17 was a shock to our previously known game mechanics. I didn't embrace it, and stopped playing the game until A18 was released. Maybe I just needed the time away from it all, because I enjoyed A18 through A20. Seems to me that A21 may well be dejavu all over again. I have tried it a few hours, uninstalled it, and choose to continue playing A20.6 (with the UL overhaul mod) for now until such time an updated version of that mod becomes available. For me, A21 vanilla experimental has been over-hyped and under whelming.
