Voice chat starts transmitting by itself, even with voice chat disabled, without showing that its sending.

sometimes, someones mic turns on even without ever hitting the voice chat key

we even had one time that everyone in a party had its mic turned on.

even with voice chat completely disabled in settings.

the speaker doesnt see on the upper left that he is actually speaking, but everone nearby and in the party can listen and see that hes speaking.

to turn it off, we have to tell them to hit the voice chat key once.  this doesnt work when voice chat is disabled, you still speak but you cant stop it by hitting V.

 

 

Remeber, EVEN WITH VOICE CHAT TURNED OFF and never hitting V (voice chat key) the microphone turns on and makes everyone hear what you doing.

this is a serious privacy issue that persists since the new party voice chat has been added. (20.4 and 20.5) probably even illegal in some countries.

 

the only real fix right now is to set your input device to something thats mute all the time, unplug / hardware-disable your microphone if not used

 

 

probably related warnings, contains LibRTCCore which is related to the EOS voice chat and a audio sample rate warning

why even all that epic online services stuff? get rid of it, it only caused harm so far. no gains, if necessary get rid of eac and use something else.

Thank you for reporting,  and you are right,  this is an issue that needs to be fixed.

In order to fix the issue,  we will need to be able to reproduce it.  I can not write a ticket unless I have the necessary information to write in it.

Can you give us some information,  an output log,  and steps to reproduce the issue?

Unfourtainly, theres no obvious way to reproduce it.

One constant we all had when it happened at random was: we were 2 or more people in a party.

it happens at random, at any time, sometimes with hours inbetween, or sometimes with just minutes.

usually happens to one of us, but we had one occasion where all people started talking at once.

 

server-side theres no log activity

i found that the log i posted above happens when joining / creatin a party, not necessarily when that bug happens.

 

this is the client log (cleaned up duplicates, players joining, chat and non audio/eos related stuff from it) its in a time span of almost 3 hours, which the bug happened once or twice. starting from creating a party to leaving the server.

I just had the same issue. Haven't sorted out how to reproduce it, but this is a massive privacy violation that warrants outright disabling voice chat via a hotfix until resolved. There is no way to prevent the game from transmitting any connected microphone input stream without disabling/unplugging that microphone.

We see how serious this is,  and are now trying to reproduce this issue.  Unfortunately,  the testers have not been able to reproduce it after hours of testing on a dedi.

If you have any new information,  please let us know.

What would help us the most would be an output log with more information.  If you type in  -debugeos=verbose  in the additional parameters of the game launcher and start the game,  the output log will contain the information necessary for the devs to pinpoint the issue when it happens.

Sorry, but no. Asking users to lean into a privacy flaw in order for you to debug it is inherently wrong. I will not be playing multiplayer with a mic plugged again until this abhorrent violation of user privacy is resolved.

 

You should at the least provide server admins a configuration setting to overall disable in-game voice, like many other multiplayer games already do. Leaving voice chat enabled in any capacity while this bug exists is a startlingly negligent decision from your team. Privacy violations like this are taken rather seriously in many parts of the world now.

it also happened to me once, but i can't rember if it happened in the current stable release or in the previous one (I'm always on the stable branch)

 

I was in a party with only 1 player and our ingame distance was > 500m and as far as i can remember, the voice chat only works withing about 70m !?

However, the other player almost fell from her chair when she heard something and i had no indication that i was sending voice.

Hitting 'V' did NOT disable the voice for me, it was permanently sending.

I left and rejoined the party and the voicechat was back to normal, meaning it would only send voice when keeping 'V' pressed.

It did work in a distance > 70m tho, i don't know if the distance was increased, as i don't remember reading about that in the patchnotes.

 

Unfortunately, i can't supply more infos, as it happened within a bloodmoon and i couldn't investigate further, since the Zombies tried to eat my brain. :)

The distance no longer matters,  because voice chat can now be heard only by party members,  and there is no proximity chat anymore.

 

Unfortunately,  we haven't been able to reproduce this issue in our testing.  I will add that it happened to you during a bm horde.

We play every night and have had it happen only once, not during a blood moon, within about 5 minutes after logging in. We both exited the game and restarted and it was gone with nothing done besides quitting and restarting. It's frustrating not knowing what kicks it off. We never use game chat only Steam voip and always push-to-talk. I figured out it was happening when I heard my buddy eating chips and not talking lol.

I'm sorry that you had to experience the issue.

 

Based on the information I got from reporters,  the only way I could think of to completely avoid it would be to set the Input device in the audio settings to one that you are currently not using.

Wow my group just ran into this, our mics were HOT with voice chat off! all of us could be heard by the one player that had their setting to voice chat on! This is NOT ok. I feel like I can't play MP now. 

If I have voice chat off, the game shouldn't read my mic PERIOD.

Unfortunately,  this issue is very sporadic and we haven't been able to get enough information to pinpoint the cause.

 

If anyone having the issue could help us out by letting us know the list of programs you were running at the time.   

- Run powershell as admin.

- Copy "$UserPath = "$($env:USERPROFILE)\Desktop\"; get-process | out-file $UserPath\output.txt" (without the quotes)

- Paste the copied text in powershell and press enter.

- There will be an output log on your desktop,  please copy the content of that output log and post it on pastebin.

Hello,

I host my own servers, this is a serious matter, I have had multiple complaints that people are able to hear private conversations without even setting up the audio in game.

You suggested changing the audio source, there is no option to turn it off the input completely? if you have one input you cannot disable it at all, you cycle the voice chat off and on and it turns it self on. 

Please add a disable button - urgently

I just wanted to post an update to this issue. 

We are still looking into this issue.  If anyone has a full client side log of when the issue happened,  it would help.

 

When anyone does come across this issue,  please try toggling voice chat on and off and see if that would fix the issue.

Edit: My guess is Discord mess something up with the voice chat in game. If not, it's the game itself.
