Game quits at "loading block textures"

Okay,

 

So this just started in the last 4 or 5 days.  I have not removed and reinstalled the game, but I went ahead and updated Win 10 and the Radeon drivers. 

 

Still get it, I am unable to quit or start game, all controls including keyboard become unresponsive and I have use the system reset button.  Once rebooted, Radeon drivers say they were reverted back to default due to unexpected failure.

 

I have forced game files recheck via steam a couple of times.

 

It only happens with this game.  So before I nuke it and reinstall, here is my log file in case someone sees something:

From the Launcher/Tools/Clean game data... menu, check all the boxes except "savegames" and then select "Clean".

(if you don't have a savegame that you are invested in, the check the savegames box as well.)

After that, don't start the game. Close the launcher and validate files twice through Steam. Then try again.

It worked.  Small problem, I didnt quite pay attention and also nuked game settings.  Now my back up wont launch becuase it says it was created in a  previous version with or a mod, which it was not.  The map is gone from the worlds.

 

So, anyways to restore this from my save?  I cant remember my seed settings, only the name.  Is that available to be extracted from the saved game back up?

Just as an FYI, while the "fix" works, something is wrong, as I keep on having to "fix" it.  I cant tell if is video related or maybe sound or maybe something else.  Just weird how I've been playing solid for so long and then boom.

One more clarification.  This  "Loading Block Textures" is the last action before the main menu loads.  If I can get to the main menu, then the game is flawless.  I have noticed that if I do a system reboot (the old fashion way of "clearing" the system during winxp days :)) the game loads no problem.

 

I removed the AMD Software Suite and just using the RX570 drivers after removing GPU from system manager.  No help.

 

I did a RAM test, no errors.

 

I did a system file scan and there were some errors windows fixed.  No help.

 

I reloaded the AMD chipset drivers.  No Help.

 

I checked windows events and all it says is the system shut down unexpectedly.

 

I did notice this on the release notes for the drivers:

 

  • Using Radeon™ Super Resolution on 2560x1600 resolution displays may produce a system hang. A temporary workaround is to set the display Scaling Mode to Full Panel.
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.

I dont play at the above resolution.  I think I will try disabling enhanced sync.  If StarCitizen doesnt show any problems. 

 

Currently updating Starcitizen since that is a very demanding title and see what happens.

 

I have fired up several games to see if any of them hang.  They all play no problems.

Star citizen fired up no issues.  SC is a RAM and Hardisk access night mare.  So I don't think I have a hardware or driver issue.

 

Is there a block textures folder/file I can replace without removing and reinstalling the game?

I would experiment with some Launcher settings. Like check "exclusive fullscreen mode".

And in your video settings in game Try "Fullscreen" set to On or Exclusive.

Turn off Dynamic Resolution.

And if none of those help, I'd try glcore from the launcher.

I was doing okay, then it started again.

 

Except this time, windows threw and a watchdog error.  

 

Now the one thing I've noticed is that if I dont log into Steam prior to launching the game, the game does bring up the steam log in.  But then I get the game locking up at the same stage.  

 

Best I can tell the watchdog error is like a time out.  So while the steam interface is loading and logging the game runs out of time to load the block textures?

 

I just can remember if this started after the server list update or the appdata update.

So, I am convinced this is a memory access issue with the game.  If I restart my system before starting the game, no problem.  If I try to launch the game w/o restart, the game locks up at loading block textures. 

 

I have reproduced it 5 times in a row.

I will check the swap file, it has been a long time since I've looked there, but I have restarted the game numerous times.  I die often and play permadeath :).

It is being managed by windows out of C:\.  I remember going this route after going SSD year before last.

 

Weird because the game was doing dandy until an update or two ago.

I was looking at known issues and maybe this has something to do with it:

I found the DDU, I will run it and see how it goes.

 

Yeah, pretty much, you download a new driver, boot into safe mode, use DDU to uninstall the old driver, reboot, install the new driver.

 

And no that's nothing with that known issue, that's hardware/driver.

Yeah, that tells me your GPU driver failed horribly. That's what happens when... well, let's just say that happens when the absolute worst things happen lol. See how it goes with the fresh driver install.
