Can no longer connect to friends server.

I was able to play fine yesterday and got to around day 3 with my friend, after that we closed the game & returned today. However, he is able to join and so is another friend, however I am unable to join using my mobile data. I am however able to join using the house Wi-Fi, but I get over 1k ping so it isn't a viable option for me to do this. The below log is given when trying to join my friend. I have tried doing it through Steam and the client itself.

The server is a FRIENDS ONLY server with NO MODS which my friend hosts.

  • Did you start a new game and re-create the issue? Yes, I have tried starting a new game, and he is unable to join my server either.
  • Have you validated your files through Steam? Yes.
  • After validation, did you re-try with a brand new game? Yes, and still nothing fixed.

I have also tried running with anti-cheat and still doesn't work.

In plain English:

6:44:08 pm, Tried to connect

5 seconds later, it gave up

Immediately, it tries again.

The connection succeeds, but after 22 seconds, it has gotten nothing

21 seconds after that, it tries again.

5 second later, it gave up

Immediately, it tries again - This time it connects.

6 seconds later, it hands over a password, which is accepted.

After exactly 2 minutes, the connection is closed by the other side. We don't have the log from that side, but I presume it's because the game host isn't getting the information it needs.

In other words, you're getting some intermittent poor quality internet. Just because both of you have good internet to 3rd party sites, doesn't mean you have good internet to each other. Neither is the fact that you have good quality Discord. Discord is a client/server VoIP protocol, so you might just both have good connections to that.

The fact that another internet connection works (Your WiFi) - but is very slow, would seem to confirm this diagnosis. I blame the Obese Doggo.

Yes, any dedicated servers I can. However, I can not join a different friends local hosted either, whilst I am using mobile data.

This is strange, since we are able to easy play most other games with under 60 ping. Do you know of any solutions we could try?

In regards to my friends log, it's in the main post, just not it's full log. That's what happens when I attempt to join.

I appreciate having some sort of reply/clarity. I am curious, shouldn't it of not worked AT ALL if it was poor quality networks on either side? Since nothings changed really.. I have the same strength network since we was able to play.

Networking is delicate. What may have worked one day may not work the next, lots of hops/nodes/interference/networking goblins in the way. Pingplotter (trial works) can help show this. For what it's worth, I had similar issues quite some time back; connecting to 7 days servers was a hit or miss and frequently would dsync with packet dropping (high ping in the game leading to usually a d/c), I tried other online games such as CSGO (same result as 7 days) but another, SWTOR, I couldn't even connect and if I did I was promptly booted.

Turns out there was a bad node that my ISP needed to fix and my ethernet cable had a tiny tear in it. Replacing the cable enabled me to play better and once the ISP fixed their end everything was grand after. There was another case I had, turned out my laptop's ethernet NIC was dying.

You're failing to connect via LiteNetLib, so perhaps instruct your friend to do proper port forwarding and get LiteNetLib to work. This may help you connect to them anyway. But your symptoms show a really bad connection (i.e. packet dropping).

I don't suppose you know of any tutorials for this?

Idk if I mentioned but it is a local hosted (Peer2Peer) so idk if port forwarding would do much

I can't really do much about my ISP due to it being mobile data, so can't really change much I don't think, even if I was to contact them idk where to start lol

That has listed ports. Honestly, port forwarding varies from each manufacturer so I would do a quick google such as, "netgear 12345 v5 port forwarding", and it would help for the host to have a static internal IP, since you'll route the ports to the specific machine, such as Port Name = 8080 Protocol = TCP IP Address (machine) = 192.268.0.101

Yeah that was kinda generic for talking about the ISP. You may want to try reducing interference by doing things like turning off other wireless devices nearby if you can, moving the phone about to get a better signal (by a window or better an open window), putting the wireless adapter closer to the phone, powering off and back on your phone, etc.

Also don't forget about your own system, thing such as firewalls/antiviruses may be adding overhead (also turn off anything else using the internet like Discord, Discord is notorious for being a little stressful on the network with prioritization and such)

In the FAQ linked above, there are instructions to add an exception for the game to your antivirus.

That is the first thing you and your friend should do.

The ports that need forwarding on the server/host are 26900 TCP and 26900-26903 UDP

It seems that most your queries have been answered by someone else, while I was sleeping.

To summarise those answers up - There are a handful of things you can try, such as getting proper port forwarding working, but most of them require pre-requisites to be met, as well as a reasonably high level of technical skill.

There's always the indirect fixes though. If you're both getting good connections to a 3rd party server, perhaps hire a 3rd party server?
