  1. I've had a couple crashes as well. They _may_ have been related to Vulkan, but I can't say for sure. I have run the game with both, and am currently using Open GLCore. The local off-line game works just fine, but I'm having a mess of other issues trying to play on our dedicated multiplayer server. Par

  3. Thanks for the reply. I've deleted both my local and server save files numerous times. Sometimes, that gets me past the hang on "Creating player..." which then gets me to the next problem, hanging on "Starting game..." The times I get past "Starting game..." I get into the game and can't use the "E" key. All three of these problems keep recurring, even after deleting the files. regards, Par

  5. Hi CptYager, thanks for responding. I'll try what you suggest, but we've already been down a similar road. At one point we were chasing a possible problem with Ubuntu Server updates, so created a whole new server instance from scratch. Complete fresh installation of Ubuntu and a fresh install of 7d2d server. That allowed me to connect and play normally, but only temporarily. The problem keeps recurring. At the moment, I can't get into our game. It hangs on "Creating character..." That hang can sometimes be cleared temporarily by wiping BOTH my local game save files and the ones on the server. In any case, if I get back in it might work temporarily or not, but will fail as I'm connected, or the next time I try to connect. Thanks, Par

  7. Summary: When connecting to our dedicated server, I get into the game and can do things, but no "E" key. Just doesn't work. I can walk around, punch grass to get fibers and craft and place the bedroll, but can't pick up a small stone or examine trash. I'm also an admin on the server, but in the brief time I was in-game the terminal behind F1 didn't recognize me; it didn't respond to dm or cm. My friends get into the game without problems. The game runs beautifully with stunning graphics on my local copy. Detailed steps to reproduce the bug: 1) Launch A20 2) Connect to game on server 3) Attempt to play the game. Actual result: When connecting to our dedicated server, there is no "E" key. Expected result: I expect to be able to interact normally with objects in the game. Here's my logs: Client: https://pastebin.com/0f3UFs8t Server: https://pastebin.com/tJmRjn0w I have created three other reports about various issues I've had in the on-going process of trying to play A20 with my friends on our dedicated server. We've had a dedicated server since A18, and I've been able to play on it from either Linux or Windows. The info in the other issues may be pertinent to this one, and I can post those links if desired. Any thoughts appreciated, Par
  8. In my experience with trying out a number of random gen world seeds, I found that the RWG uses a LOT of RAM. It also doesn't clear all of the RAM when starting another RWG world in the same session. I have a pretty fast box, i9 10900 with 64GB of RAM, and while working on the third randomly generated world in a row, the 7D2D memory usage hit 40GB. I think a 10k world could be generated in about 12GB but, yeah, make sure there's enough Swap space if you don't have unlimited amounts of RAM. Par
  9. Qwerty, I've been experiencing the same issue, but for me it's been more complicated. Yes, deleting the player files helps, but for me it's not the whole story. If you're interested you can check out my report, which tells ho to delete the player files: which is #1 of 3 related reports. Best, Par
  10. A fresh install of Ubuntu Server 20.04 got me going, at least temporarily. I'm back to the same issues now again, unfortunately, so I don't think it's a complete fix. At least not for me. My client game is in Linux, too. basic system info: Linix Mint 20.2, kernel 5.11 Intel i9-10900 10 core 64GB RAM AMD Radeon RX 6800 X Thanks, Par
  11. Hi, the logs are already included in the 2nd of the three-part report. I didn't include the logs in every report as it would be unnecessary clutter. I believe I mentioned that above, but no worries, I can include them again here. Here's the logs:Client: https://pastebin.com/JPEMU1qbServer: https://pastebin.com/81mBPNyT And here is the link to the 2nd of three report: I'm playing on Mint 20.2 and have tried both Vulkan and GLCore. Our server is Ubuntu Server 20.04 , and I _wish_ I had no problems. Any suggestions appreciated, Par
  12. Hi, I've been having similar issues. You might get some info out of this report and the two others in the series. Best, Par
  13. Hi Star69, and thanks. When I first started the journey of getting my gaming going on my nice new Linux box, I had bad results with GLCore and 7D2D. Weird colours and very high contrast. All blacks and greens. When I switched to Vulkan, it worked. That was with Alpha 19 just a few weeks ago. I've just continued to use Vulkan. I just tried again, though, with GLCore. I did get into the game, and it looked good, so that's a step, however it behaved exactly as it did in my previous post -- I couldn't interact with anything. No "E" key. dm and cm don't work in the terminal either, so it doesn't recognise me as an admin. I can do other things though, like open inventory, look at the map, etc, but no "E" Another curious thing is that the past several times after I quit out of the not-quite-working game, 7D2D downloaded and installed an update, about 34MB in size. This has happened several times now when quitting after trying to play the game. I don't know what that's about, but seems related. Thanks again, Par
  14. Thanks for the response. I don't think that's the issue in this case. I removed all my maps and player data (they are backed up and saved) and did a fresh download and install of A20. The A20 server was put on a new, fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04. Best, Par
  15. Well, it was short lived. I got into game last night with friends. Had a blast. Got in again this morning. Cool. Went out for some errands and since I got back it doesn't work again. <sigh> There's two sets of symptoms: one is hanging on "Starting game..." My character appears in game, and I can see the lines in the terminal that show in-game things like zombie counts, but all I see is the "Starting game..." screen. The other admin deleted my player files on the server for me and I was able to get in to the game, but once again I couldn't interact with anything. No "E" key. dm and cm don't work in the terminal either, so it doesn't recognise me as an admin. I can do other things though, like open inventory, look at the map, etc, but no "E" Frustrated. Par
  16. Oh, yeah, I've done those things. If you were to read through the other reports in this three-issue series, mentioned above, you would see those things in my bug (and possible fix) reports. The admin with physical access to the server has been clearing my save data from the server for me as well. This is a complicated issue, and is spread over three reports, to keep it one issue per report. However, I am now able to get in to the game and play, and everything seems to be working. I am one of the two admins on the server and have been beating my head against this issue for a few days now. The solution that seems to have worked was a fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04 to run the server from. Not an older version patched up to current, but a fresh install. It seems there may be a discrepancy. Another poster noticed an issue with "Open Game Panel," and while we don't use that, the problem that came to light seems to affect us. Please see: Don't know if this will help others, but I am now able to play together with my friends on our dedicated server. And THAT, of course, is the goal. :-) Par.
  17. It's now at the point where I can log in to the game, do things normally for a few minutes, but then the "E" key just stops working. Open to any and all ideas. :-) Par
  18. Hi, yeah, it's really frustrating. All the others are in the new game, and I can't join. arrgghh. I just got in momentarily again, and my "E" key was non-functional. My ping at the time was not great, but not all that bad either at 175ms. I'll try reducing my video settings, but I've got good hardware. Good luck to us! :-) Par So I tried reducing my video settings and turning V-Sync off. I got into the game, and I could pick things up! But only for a couple minutes. It soon went back to no "E" key. It just stopped working. Par
  19. Hi all. I'm having some technical issues with connecting to an Alpha 20 multiplayer game server and I wanted to give a quick rundown of my successes and failures in case anyone has encountered similar things or has any thoughts to offer. basic system info: Linix Mint 20.2, kernel 5.11 Intel i9-10900 10 core 64GB RAM AMD Radeon RX 6800 X I upgraded my Steam copy of 7d2d from A19 to A20. (I kept a backup of my A19 files.) One of our group maintains the 7d2d (and Valheim) server and it has also been upgraded to A20. I've done a full uninstall/download/reinstall of A20. After getting past being stuck on "Creating player..." (see A20 multiplayer launch stuck on "Creating player...") ...and then getting past being stuck on "Starting game..." (see A20 multiplayer launch stuck on "Starting game...") ...I managed to get into the PREGEN10K world on our server. I got into the game and could do things, but no "E" key. Just didn't work. I could walk around, punch grass to get fibers and craft and place the bedroll, but couldn't pick up a small stone or examine trash. As I walked around I came to a place where the detail hadn't drawn -- smooth mottled green with no grass, no buildings -- and as I walked onto it I fell through the earth and just kept falling... haha. So I quit. When I tried to reconnect to the server, I got stuck again at "Starting game..." and haven't gotten in again since. We might try using the PREGEN8K world as there might be problems with 10K ones, but that doesn't address the other issues. I'm also an admin on the server, but in the brief time I was in-game the terminal behind F1 didn't recognize me; it didn't respond to dm or cm. Any thoughts appreciated, Par
  20. Hi all. (I kept a backup of my A19 files.) One of our group maintains the 7d2d (and Valheim) server and it has also been upgraded to A20. We tried A20 out with one of the smaller pregen worlds and everyone got iny. We then made a random gen 10k world that we liked and switched to that. After getting past being stuck on "Creating player..." ... (see A20 multiplayer launch stuck on "Creating player...") ...I then got stuck on "Starting game..." It appeared to others that I was in the game, but my screen never changed. Eventually I lost the mouse and couldn't click anywhere and had to bail. Searching on this issue suggested that this has happened with random gen worlds (reports of this go back to 2016), so we switched to the PREGEN10K that comes with the game. Switching the server to the PREGEN10K world allowed me to get past "Starting game...", but only once. I've seen people talk about 10k maps having issues. Once in game, I could walk around, but there were other issues. See "A20 multiplayer "E" key not working and I fall throught the ground" I've done a full uninstall/download/reinstall of A20. Here's the logs: Client: https://pastebin.com/JPEMU1qb Server: https://pastebin.com/81mBPNyT Any thoughts appreciated, Par
  21. Hi all. I'm having some technical issues with connecting to an Alpha 20 game server and I wanted to give a quick rundown of my successes and failures in case anyone has encountered similar things or has any thoughts to offer. basic system info: Linix Mint 20.2, kernel 5.11 Intel i9-10900 10 core 64GB RAM AMD Radeon RX 6800 X I upgraded my Steam copy of 7d2d from A19 to A20. I upgraded my Steam copy of 7d2d from A19 to A20. (I kept a backup of my A19 files.) One of our group maintains the 7d2d (and Valheim) server and it has also been upgraded to A20. When I tried to login it got stuck on "Creating player..." and I had to quit 7d2d from Steam. After some searching I found suggestions to clear my player data from the server. It's stored in the Player folder of the save, identified by your Steam-64 ID. For example... 11111111111111111.ttp 11111111111111111.ttp.bak 11111111111111111.ttp.map The .map file can be left alone, but the other two must go/be replaced. Reports of this go back to 2015. The server admin did this for me and I got past the "Creating player..." message. But only the first time, though. This problem keeps happening. Almost every time I try to connect to an A20 server game, even if it's the very first time, I get stuck on "Creating player...". How can there already be player files to delete if it's the first time? This is just one issue in my current journey to play A20 with my friends on our server. Please see also my reports on: A20 multiplayer launch stuck on "Starting game..." and A20 multiplayer "E" key not working and I fall through the ground Any thoughts appreciated, Par
  22. Hi, Thought of that, too, but it continues to happen after deleting the files. In fact, the files have to be deleted more than once. The game gets stuck on "Creating player..." and that is fixed, temporarily at least, by deleting my player data from the server. It's stored in the Player folder of the save, identified by your Steam-64 ID. For example... 11111111111111111.ttp 11111111111111111.ttp.bak 11111111111111111.ttp.map The .map file can be left alone, but the other two must go/be replaced. The server admin did this for me and I got past the "Creating player..." message. But it keeps happening over and over.
  23. I experienced almost identically the same issue in Alpha 20 last night. Par
