  1. My Observations have made me think that the desert is now the easy mode for Alpha 21.

    1) Food is not an issue there (munch on yucca and harvest with bone knife) while travel to and from the trader.

    2) Water is a thing but if you find vitamins you are golden (I overdid it a bit by drinking almost 200 water (had over 170 backlog of water before I died which surprised me as I was 100% immune to dysentery.  Did I drown??)

So, I will see how much backlog of water I can drink on one vitamin unless someone already knows. :)

  2. It's POSSIBLE to argue that rainwater needs a filter to remove radioactive particles that could remain in the atmosphere for quite some time.

Nobody knows for sure how long particles that are shot up to the stratosphere would remain there, slowing drifting down over a long time.

So, there is a somewhat good reason the filter is needed.

I've played most of my A20 time with no traders.  For me they make the game far less enjoyable.  So I'd be modding in a recipe for them and/or adding them to the loot tables (and for everything else that is trader-only).

I cant think of a challenging "homemade" Water Filter: (10 cloth 20 plastic, 20 coal)?  Would making that it has a durability and can be "repaired" with some coal and cloth be even better?  (Edit:  Actually, the whole Water Filter thing is currently a critical or a nothing thing.  No middle ground and the below might be the answer.)

Maybe if it needed coal dust (instead of just coal) to be made only at a workstation (edit: or even a Cement Mixer as it grinds rock to sand.  Keeping that theme going), is starting to sound more interesting to me.

  4. As I started way out in the wilderness, I tried to give that a go as I found a cooking pot on the only POI in the area on day one!

But I quickly realized that was a non-starter as you need to loot dirty water to make clean water (nothing to loot).

I traveled a kilometer to the nearest trader (which was also in the wilderness!) and realized it was bad luck and restarted.

I'm on my third restart, trying to start near a trader that is also near a town.  Bad luck or is this inexplicably intended?

Streamer I watch is on 100% XP and by going full on into Daring Adventurer has a Q6 Steel Spear by day 15 or so

OK, even I think that's too OP.

IMO the spear is now the best melee weapon because it's hard for zombies to hit you (3+ meter range) if you have room to maneuver.  And that is the weakness and the appeal of a perception build for me.

This is due to the new trader stage and how it is calculated. A large factor in the trader stage are Daring Adventurer and the quest tier at this particular trader.

Daring Adventurer is basically the new Better Barter and the new meta is to put as many points as possible into Daring Adventurer early on and to spam quests.

Ahh, maybe that was what I was seeing, the guy received a skill book set from the trader and received 3 sets of 6 books vs 3 sets of 3 books.

Honestly I think it's just because everyone is playing it as it feels new with the changes. I don't necessarily think it's going to be the best build in the long run

    Thats good!

But I must say as finding skill books are now half of player progression, a perception build can easily get twice as many skill books!  That alone would be enough, but there are other things...

Edit: UPDATE: the Streamer said he doubled all loot so it's not as amazing as I thought.  Perception is still a solid choice now, however.

  8. Anyone else getting the feeling that perception has been custom built for A21?

It has usurped the strength builds long reign.  Hope we get at least few months to play perception as is.

If you disagree with me, that's good as I will get to play this complete face rolling fun build longer!!

So the husband is supposed to get some say?  What’s that like?

My wife gave me some archive material on how thats like, reference materials like: "John Carter of Mars" and "Tarzan of the Apes".

She said these true events show that men are made to fail, and woman are made to save them...

As she is the best cook that I've ever known... I believe her!  :)

  10. Loot Respawn could be part of the games grander plot AND/OR just a convenient vehicle for endless gameplay.

If it's part of a multi game plot (two games) this first game (7D2D) the player is hallucinating or dreaming this:

If they choose the White River group, they could wake up in a part 2 with the player the only person immune to the virus!

If they choice the bandits they will die OR possibly wake up as patient Zero, a zombie  in part 2!

The player has to kill one of the two leaders to end the game.

Of course, it's all conjecture but that's how my brain works.  :)

This may sound strange and annoy the 7DTD community. I would love for TFP to cancel A21 putting all their effort into A22. I love everything I have seen in the A21 Dev Videos. Watching those videos was like rushing home to receive a present. Saying this I think A22 is going to be the game changer. I have been playing this game for ten years non stop and am looking forward to the next evolution to the game.

I think A20 is flawless as is and would rather wait A22. This could also give TFP more time to work out bugs.  I have a feeling A22 will be the turning point for 7DTD.

When A21 does come out I will no doubt be grinding away at it.

Yeah, A20 is a very good game.  Once a Workshop is made available on Steam, 7D2D will explode in users as many users will only load Mods from steam.

However, the new concept of A21 is well liked by Joel and he is the Fun Pimp I listen to when Fun is the issue.

So A21 is different but more fun (I'm positive).  What's not to like?

  12. My prediction is A21 will be released... Soon.

It will be more soon than the Kraken getting lucky in Vegas (take that ether way).

Even more soon than Aliens invading Earth, demanding the movie "Titanic" be remade with alien actors.

We will see how my analysis turns out!   Could be two days...

I don't want to watch any streamer playing the game. I want to play the game by myself.

The only good point for me on streamer weekend is to know when the release date will be.

    Fair enough.

For me I want to know the mechanics of playing and not so much the adventures of others (I will still watch that too).

Once I understand the reality of the new rules and the games interface, I can focus on making my own adventures!

Things are looking pretty good at this point bug wise. Most of the current must fixes can be done during experimental. We only have one major bug that needs to be fixed before experimental, which causes the server to hang from what appears to be POI resets triggering water updates. The water sim programmer is working on that one. Granted we may find other nasty bugs as the testers continue testing.

On a POI reset first remove all water from the POI area, then have the water "blocks" reset only after the land blocks are reset.

  15. Once you can make a pipe rifle you should be able to kill 80-90% of all chickens and rabbit that pause on a road. (Any scope attachment boosts that to near 100% with off-road shots easier)

Again, for me, that is so much more satisfying than farming.  Mid+ game, hunting "Big Game" in the snow biome is one of the most rewarding things for me.  The element of danger is icing on the cake.  :)
