Map size and radiated zone limits

The default RWG map sizes, 4k and 8k squares, are small to reduce loading time. It is was the

"good enough" size for experimental.

 

When making a new random world, you can use the advanced option, which will let

you set mapsize to 16k.

I have not used it, but rumors has it takes a loooooong time, like 30minuts to an hour

to generate, and several minuts to load.

8192 map, getting rad at 3778 from center.

The radiation image for the 8k map is 512 x 512 pixels with exactly 19 pixels of radiation on the border.

512 is 1/16 of 8192.

19 X 16 = 304 game meters of radiation on a border.

8192 / 2 = 4096

4096 - 304 = 3792.

So it seems that using this method, even though it's off by 14 meters, is pretty close. 8192 maps are fine.

 

For 4k maps the radiation image is 256 x 256, but it still has 19 pixels of red on the borders. 256 is 1/16 of 4096 so you still end up with a radiation border of approximately 300 meters.

 

So, where exactly is the issue?

Should I do the same now for a 16k map?

 

Better yet, please provide the size and the seed of the problem map.

How about i pose this as a question... what do i need to do to enable the rad zone starting at say 7500 ( with biomes etc extending that far as well ) on an 8192 map instead of 3792 ? Do i need to reduce the number of red pixels on the border of the png file ? If both 4096 and 8192 maps end up with rad zones starting at similar distances from centre i don't see much point in the 8192 map. Or am i conceptualizing distance incorrectly ? In game the maps seem too small considering you cant use the rad zone. Surely I'm not the only person who see this in this way !

What's going on is the 3792 is from center. Which means that you still have to add in the 3792 in the other direction from center. That's how you have your 8k map. The rad zones will be about 300m wide on the edges no matter the map size.

 

EDIT (more info): On a 4k map, the rad zone should start somewhere around 1748 from center. Leaving you with a playable area of around 3490 x 3490

On an 8k map, your playable area is approximately 7590 X 7590
