Good Combat Class Build Suggestion?

I'm bringing some friends into my game to do some major poi's in a big city I found. I've checked and I can use the CP command to give them access to the giveselfxp so they can get to my level, and I've had no problem getting some decent equipment ready for them. They won't need to perk into any building or tech skills, just combat.

So, what's a good selection of combat and survival skills? They'll have baseball bats, crossbows, shotgun and an assault rifle. Depending on how we feel we might stealth it ... or else we might go in all guns blazing and literally wake the dead (it is a zombie game, after all). I'm level 47 - ferals, cops and radioactive zombies are common in my missions now, and the poi itself is a level 5 mission. Hordes are off, I just wanted to find a big city and try all the new buildings.

Let's say, for example, I take them to level 30 - just an idea. I can go higher, but lets just set the bar there for now. There's the core skill, like strength, then the sub-skill like sexual tyrannosaurus, fortitude and the healing, cardio, ect... I've not had a lot of use for the agility tree, but something like reloading whilst moving quicker can be useful. Playing on your own, mindful of the need to get a farm going, get a workbench, build vehicles, you don't get many points to spread on meaty skills like brawler.

Any suggestions welcome. I'm sure we'll have a blast whatever happens ... and I mean that quite literally, we're bringing dynamite and grenades 😁

Some friends, plural. A couple of new-to-the-game players, since you're going to inform them on speccing? In a tier 5 POI. Sounds fun, maybe in a sadistic way.. :)

Given the almost inevitable lag-fest making melee rather painful and virtual impossibility of group-stealth, I'd say get them specialized firearms and all the ammo they can carry. So, one specs shotties, one goes ARs. With level 30, you won't really have points to split into other trees; single points in Run & Gun aren't a bad idea. Nothing is really mandatory in your setting of course. The Fort speccer can use the damage reduction/mitigation things in the tree. Crossbows... got explosive bolts? :)

They're not "new" to the game, they just tend to play in an unspecialised way - each trying to spec into everything at once, they hit each other a lot ... and I now know the horrors I inflicted upon my brother when it comes to well sorted storage crates. You know -- turn your back for five minutes and your food crate which is clearly marked "FOOD" is full of level one stone axes kind of thing because they never scrap or repair anything.

It may well be fun in a hellish way and if it proves to be chaotic enough I'll upload the video somewhere. But I am hoping I could spread out the points so they hit hard, shoot hard, and can take a few hits before they go down. Again, I've never had to build just for combat, so happy to take suggestions on were to put the points.

Disagree on both. You need to turn off dynamic meshes (last tab in video settings) then tier5 are as lagfree as in A19.  And group stealth IS principally possible if everyone does it, with a disciplined group... in other words a group almost opposite to yours, OneManStanding 😉

Yeh, we disagree a little less than your first sentence implied, those don't exist ;) I gotta give dynmesh a try, but mainly my issue with lag is wanting to do things in the wasteland. That means there's about 5 zeds trying to path up my POI constantly, which seems to cause most of my slideshows. As soon as I get to fight them, the issue seems to resolve.

Hard to tell between having given them an easy path and actually killing them though, I'm kinda in the middle of killing them once they have a clear path to me... :)

I did give that a shot, didn't feel any difference. <20 fps in the middle of dishong and it feels like 1-2 fps trying to aim at runners. Nothing seems to do more than 2 fps, including dropping resolution to 720p. All cores run at 50% or less, memory at 60% capacity. Turned off feral sense to attract a little smaller crowd, that dulled the worst edge of it.

Ok. The game likes to give everyone his own hell. In my and some of my friends cases it helped greatly with FPS in cities. If your PC is somewhat older it might just be some internal data path that is too slow and gets congested.

That sounds to me at least, like the absolute worst possible way to introduce new players to the game.    You might as well go play CoD Zombie mode(Im not hating, i have spent plenty of hours doing just that thing).    This is a survival game and starting someone brand new fully speced on an existing world is IMHO a horrible idea and gives them a horrible sense of how the game works.

Perhaps these are completely casual people, but what happens if at least one of them says "hey this game is cool" and wants to start solo from scratch?   What happens when they realize the ealry game is really brutal to people used to top tier weapons and armor who suddenly don't have such?   People who have to deal with hunger and lack of stamina.  People who LIKELY don't learn to melee and/or bow and just pew pew pew away all their ammo because they did not WORK for it.

just my 4 cents.

It actually worked out alright 😁... although stealth clearly isn't their thing.
