there's mods for the game? well that could change things considerably. got any suggestion for places to get those ?

mods rock bro. they have kept the game alive for me.

i am playing with undead legacy atm and it is a bit grindy, but with any game once you figure it out it is easier. some like complexity and depth, some like cod.

also, play with standard vanilla settings. i am currently on a playthru with 300% xp with 300% loot and am having  blast ripping up the wasteland. although it would be much easier if the fecking rng gods would grant at least 1 suppressor...

darkness falls is another great mod.

i dipped my toes in the medevil (sp?) and ravenhurst mods a few alphas back and they are noteworthy  (i see gup is about and i see jax sometimes here) , havent checked back in on those for a bit, but once the dev cycle dust settles and i can get a better pc then i know i am in for a ton of treats

Boiled meat.....this is one that has always got me. Is it just me or doesn't that just sound completely disgusting?

I never make it in the game, idk, I just refuse to. I know it gives hydration along with food & health but I just can't do it.

Hell I'll even eat dog or cat food while I'm out looting, which is also disgusting, but I refuse to make boiled meat, lol 🤷

ever heard of pulled pork? thats yum and essentially boiled meat.

    and corned beef

and one of new zealands  delicacies is a 'boil up'

    boiled chicken is ok too...

    poached fish is nice

i am guessing you dont cook a lot...

so funny thing the wife said to me during our morning coffee made me realize why I'm liking 7 days less and less it no longer "feels" like a Sandbox game it feels like a very bad RPG without a story. I think I understand what the cause of it is now that I think about it. a Sandbox Game shouldn't need me to "adopt a new playstyle" I should be able to play the game how I want and have player agency. With the constant "your not playing the game how we want you to play it" updates and changes where players air the concerns about their player agency being remove the more the game isn't a SandBox game  I honestly think this is why the game updates we keep getting just make's playing the game a chore less fun more like world or warcraft with no factions.  I honestly think the game no longer feels like a sand box when your told by dev's that how you like to play in a sand box game where how you like to play is always punished or told to adopt a new way or being forced to play in away you don't find fun but its how they want you to play. that's just not a sandbox anymore. Go figure it takes the wife pointing it out for me to see it.

how about trying different ways to play.

variety is the spice of life.

    ask your wife 🙂

  3. hey @madmole

a long time ago i raised with you the concept of overspeccing in an attribute and getting a big bonus as a result. eg if you are lvl 10 str and then gob up a cigar so you are effectively level 11, you could get a juicy bonus to some or all strength stuff. moria (waaaay back in the day) and diablo 1 had that sort of uber buff. (in diablo, fire ball at lvl 5 above natural max skill level was devastating 🙂  )

your reply at the time was very encouraging. are you still thinking about that at all?

Bro @NukemDed, Whats the configuration of your new PC. I too want to buy a new gaming laptop or PC. The game is unplayable on my current gaming laptop.

    well.....

my expectations of gaming visuals are probably less than most as my first fave game was moria from berkley university which consisted of only asci characters. i am 51 years old... father was a bigwig at the countries capitals university and had access to cutting edge tech at the time. the kind where you dialled up on the rotary telephone and pushed the hand set in to the foam lined box thing and it went zzzrttt ting boingggg schzzzzt for ages and the mysterious box plugged into the tv would show lines of text. lol

i have graphics turned well down on my potatoe ( some sort of hp pavillion touch screen thing that cost about 1400 new zealand dollars about 4 years ago) but it is the game play i love so much. i think my system is quite a bit below recommended specs... my kids laugh at me. but it seems to work fine for me.

i was a seasoned gamer when doom came out, which was awesome graphics at the time, and duke nukem was out of this world. whats my gamer tag after all? and thats duke nukem 2, not original and certainly not 3d. that and diablo 1 and 2 are my foundation games. other titles the old timers may recoginse are cyborg justice, road rash, red faction, toejam and earl, legacy of kane and shadow warrior. a mix of genres and platforms for sure, but back in the day there was little choice...

so, get something that will play 7dtd and just play, you may have something that will cope as is now. wait until the game is fully optimised before spending too much.

i use an xbox controller with the current pc version and love it, i have in fact had direct feed back from the devs in the past on requests on controller functionality (and changes to that functionality) which tickles me no end, which has really earnt my loyalty i must say. not saying that it was my request that made the change but i felt listened to and the change i wanted happened. (toggle for run rather than having to keep stick pressed down).

the gyro sucked on controller, although i am a bit unco, but havent tried it for a few alphas as i prefer early game and play dead is dead and it would urinate me off if i died later game by being a drongo and nose dived to my doom.

my system seems to be struggling with the undead legacy mod but it may be time to nuke the system and start again from scratch to unclog the pipes.

G is talking about the ARL problem with mods using an RVS scheme. Could be solved similar to how ZEW did it with QLMP !

    😉

    A?

theres a lot of letters there as opposed to words

Although I’ve never played 7 days to die on pc I do own on Xbox series x and love the game! A lot better then Minecraft!! Hope to the alpha 20 version come to consoles soon I want my turrets and blade traps lol

bro! get it on pc, and you can have it now! you wont regret it. i even bought a pc to play it on (the ones i had were under powered)

  6. how about some clever cookie makes us all a mod that will emulate the water change in the current game. it would only take a few hours to then go in and get an idea of how it affected each of our game play styles, a pseudo test as it were.

i think it was @roland a few (no a crap ton) of pages back said something along those lines... i am too dumb to work it out, but i will bet there are heaps of you who could and i personally would try it as i prefer the early game over the late and restart often playing different builds

  7. interesting thread.

i play 98% sp, and crank forges and chem stations and all sorts and rarely get screamers.

dont use burning shaft as its too much effects for my old eyes unless there are no other mods to hand.

dont be afraid of screamers. do your thing until one shows up and then dial the factory back a bit.

and then start a screamer farm a wee way (1 or 2 chunks) from your base and have some fun  🙂

i think i noticed the other day that they showed up when doing a lot of nail gun upgrading. do we know if upgrading generates heat?

i play vanilla settings, sometimes up one difficulty level if i am feeling particularly murderous. any higher is just too much like hard work.

  8. a main story line. once you get to a certain point, things do get a little repetitive as it is now. i love the early game, getting established in whatever build this time around, but once you get past horde #2, theres not that much to do except max things out.

yes i could crank the difficulty up to insane meathead but that feels, i dunno, engineered?

it would be interesting to have a mode where the horde comes on day 7, 13, 18, 22, 25, 27, 28 and was continuous from that point on. (that took ages to maff that in my head). that would give a (probable) end point at least.

I like how farming is. just spend 3 points into Lotl and get at least 5 plants growing. Thats not very hard getting 3 points into it

dont get me wrong, i do farm a bit, but unless i am doing the fort tree already, then it is way more than the 3 lotl points, you have to jack up fort itself to be able to spend the three.

i do keep and plant seeds, and usually get lotl 1 at least, seems a cheap way to double the harvest, but always have to supplement food production with raiding farms etc.

no parts of the game are hard in themselves, you just cant have it all. and thats fine by me.

i have learnt though that you should check every loot container, salvage as much as you can and keep everything! one of the joys is to finally get a vehicle with decent storage and go out at night and pick up all the non urgent stuff that accumulates in the dump chests around and about, then make nice big organised stacks back home 🙂 yes i am a hoarder...

Farming is now a kind of gamble

farming as it is now sucks tbh

saying that, there are soooo many pois stuffed full of corn and taters that it doesnt really matter for food.

however, super corn for those learning elixirs etc is another story. and shrooms. can never have enough shrooms.

most of the rest are everywhere anyway.

heres a brave stance. why not remove farming altogether and free up the bandwidth for more fun stuff. like shooting whilst a passenger in a vehicle. i have no idea if they are linked of course, but would be thrilled to be enlightened on what limits things like only 5 vehicles, 15 or so zombies, 4 or 5 weapons per class etc. godamn it i want a katana.

It already takes forever to try and find all 133 of the perk books, now we have to find 1,920 magazines to max out all the crafting abilities?

my rose tinted glasses and i are hoping that there is only 1 shot gun mag, 1 pistol mag, 1 ... etc and we have to find the same shotgun mag etc each time to go up an increment.

    that would

    - remove looking for that last pesky specific issue to finish off

    - make stacking them in inventory easier

    - remove 6/7 magazine items from the game (presumably freeing the spots up for other things - if that is how it works...)

this would imo be better than the current specificity that rng can really make into a chore.

@roland / @lazman can you confirm or deny please

and if there are 6x19 = 114 ! new spots available, any teasers on what is taking their place? (assuming correct assumption of 19 magazine series)

and if this is the case, how big of a consideration was the freeing up of the spots when making this design decision?
