Does the opaque glass texture let light through? Probably not, right?

No, it doesn't. It's advantage is that it has full-block hitpoints instead of the 100 of the regular glass window. Looks stylish but no sunlight in my kitchen unfortunately.

  2. Fishing 2.0 caused me the most hilarious near-death experience I've ever had in this game.

I had a quest to open up a trade route. I was only planning to head over there on my bike and come right back so I didn't bring much in the way of meds. Just some med bandages and a jar of honey. I get to the other trader and there's a thug outside the door. So I walk up with my club out, prepared to do battle, but I started like, bouncing up and down or something and I freaked out and tried to backpedal cuz I thought I was falling through the map. I couldn't hit the Thug because I kept bouncing and moving against my will. I finally got in enough hits to knock him down and then finished him, then I looked around and realized...

I WAS STANDING ON A BUTTERFLY.

I started laughing so hard I didn't hear Arlene coming up behind me so she got a few shots in. I finished her off then I smacked the butterfly with a club because that's just how it is in the wasteland.

I was infected and very injured so I used up my bandages and my honey and I'm now nursing a sprain which meant I had to bike home slowly. And yet... it was so worth it. :D

  3. The windows in the shapes menu are a combination of pre-done window textures and multi-texture blocks (along with some that are just open spaces). I don't know what the correct term for that is, but basically the blocks are multiple parts so that you can paint the sections with different textures. (There are also some other blocks that work this way, in the trim section, for example.) There is now a paint texture that matches the ones that have the "window blind" texture, it's called "opaque glass" in the paintbrush texture menu. So those "window" shapes that don't look like windows can be painted to look like windows.

I use those quite a lot now but man, it took me a hot minute to figure out how those weird shapes were supposed to be windows. Had to spend some time with my good friend paintbrush before I sorted that out.

On the plus side, paint is super cheap in the campfire now, just need to have a cooking pot, 1 chrysanthemum and 1 murky water to make 100 paint. So at least you can experiment with low risk.

  4. My first A20 save, it took me a while to get deeper into the city. I walked into the downtown area for the first time and I was blown away. The little details like the filler park pieces, the way the curbs fit together and such really pull it all together. I had seen a bit of it on the dev streams but it still didn't prepare me for seeing it in game. I'm still hilariously giddy about the overpasses because they just look so cool!

But truth be told, if it wasn't for that little delay in the city, I would leave the base for the night anyway, just to avoid it taking any damage that would cost me more resources.

If there's anything I learned from my chaotic 20s back in the day, it's this: If you know the people comin' to the party can't behave themselves, you have the party at someone else's house. :D

@Mahnogard  Nice kitchen! So "organized"   Hmmphh!   Makes mine looks like a typical man-cave. . . . (sigh)   🤒

:D Ain't nothin' wrong with man caves! I had that beer sign in the kitchen before I replaced it with the clock. I meant to then put it by the fridge but never got around to it.

How cool! My base will never look so pretty like that. I started building a base from scratch, so I guess lots of pretty things are simply out of my reach now, but this screenshot clearly shows the end result of taking the harder path by using an existing house is worth the extra effort. And it really is harder to take over an existing building, because you have to destroy and repair a lot of stuff which takes a long time in early game without proper skills and tools, whereas when you're building something from scratch, you're just mostly adding new things, granted you have enough building materials. Then again, custom built bases can't be so pretty as they miss a lot of details.

Thanks! To be fair, this is the cabin at bombshelter_md_01 and it's just one room that's already in pretty good shape. The only difference with A20 is that it now has a few zombo occupants whereas it was empty before. I use plates to make a loft in about 2/3 of the ceiling area (you can see the trellis that can be climbed to get up there) and the house itself only needs a few blocks repaired on the roof, plus the new back door. I only upgrade the house to cobblestone, because there's a wall around the property that's concrete with iron bars. If they breach that, I'm toast anyway. LOL That half-wall behind the sink / coffee maker is constructed from Sam's bookcases.

On the new save I started last night, I'm going to build from scratch. I've played enough of A20 now that I think I can make the most of the new trim blocks and such, and working on that cabin for the millionth time (I love that POI) helped me "practice" a bit.

90% of pretty is paint, and paint is SUPER cheap and easy to make from Day 1 these days. Back in the day of having to use the chem bench, oil, etc, I always freaked out about wasting any paint but now I just hit the campfire and make like 1000 and go nuts. I love paint. I do wish there were more "cleaner" paint textures available but I make it work.

Building in this game is what I do. I love it. I use modded 3-hour days and I spend my morning looting / visiting the trader, and my evening working on my home. It's probably no surprise that most of my other favorite games are those with building: Ark, Conan, No Man's Sky... I love creating homes. :D The main difference for me with converting a POI vs building from scratch is that if I start with an empty lot, I also start with blood moon turned off because I don't know how long it will take for me to figure out what I want to build and I don't like to be rushed.. LOL I know I could hole up in a POI for the first couple of hordes but I don't really like doing that. Sometimes I just leave it off, sometimes I turn it on after I get started. I love how the game gives me all these options for playing the way I want to.

  8. I turned Feral Sense on for the first time yesterday. I had started a new save (I do that a lot) and decided to turn it on, did the tutorial then shut down for a few hours because I was hungover. I started it up several hours later, forgot I had turned FS on and went to do a trader quest. I heard all this noise behind me and realized I had collected my own little horde. And then more showed up, and then while I was in the POI I could hear them beating on the walls trying to get to me.

I don't know that I'd play with it on all the time, but I like it. It felt pretty natural in that scenario because I wasn't trying to be quiet so area zombies coming to check out the noise makes sense. But I tend to play long days / fast progression and having all those extra zeds in my face definitely super-charges the leveling so I might need to reconsider my other settings if I keep it on. I'll be running into glowies and spitters quite quickly if I keep going this way. 😁

  9. I just realized I never came back to post the end result. I posted  the pic in JaxTeller's thread for the appliances but forgot to come back here! Here is my finished kitchen, with Sam's cabinets and fridge to ensure that I can store all the things and live a nice organized life.

  10. You're assuming that people feel shoehorned due to their "needed" skill choices, but I really think that's just an early-game thing. Your build isn't dictated by your first 10 levels, or even your first 20. If you play long enough, you'll get to flesh your build out however you want. You just have to decide what your first priorities are.

I have zero qualms with spreading out my points. I never feel that those points are wasted. If I spec into strength for mining and use bows for combat and need Intellect for workstations, well, those are all important to me. If I didn't want to put points in Intellect then I can find other ways of getting the workstations. Eventually. If I don't want to mine, then I buy or scavenge resources. If I don't want to farm, then I need to focus my looting and trading on food more than I would otherwise.

One thing I love in this game is the RPG aspect (and yeah, I know some people don't.) Part of that is having to make those choices when you decide where to put your points. I guess I'm fortunate in that I adore clubs and bats and I also tend to do a lot of mining. I fell in love with bats early in A19 (after hundreds of hours thinking I "had" to use guns) and once I had my first burning shaft mod, there was no going back. BBQ Stick for life. But I also prefer to build my workstations instead of running the trader loop trying to get them, same for the turrets that I need for defending my base. I also love to farm (yes, even in A20, it's fine once you get there). So I will end up with points in almost everything but guns, really, and I won't regret a single point because it lets me do the things I want to do in the game. And I've never felt weakened by doing it.

  11. 🎵 A microwave oven that makes soup so easy

A coffee machine that makes coffee and tea-sy

An oven so perfect, I can't help but sing,

These are a few of my favorite things... 🎵

My lovely, functional kitchen due to the Working Devices mod, with some help from Sam's Storage (fridge) and Telric's Decoration Pack (clock, faucet, and the ceiling fan that's off-camera).

    Update guys!!

SOOOOO... ever since I reseated the ram, and the GPU, I have been running 7DTD flawlessly! fingers crossed, I think the problem is fixed! Thanks again to all for the input, and help!

Yay! I'm so glad it's working!! Have fun and kill lots of zombies! :D

yeah i agree with this. I think this should be the default tbh, losing everything just sucks so hard, and only having what is loaded in your guns is already enough of a drawback.

I started doing this a while back. I still hate dying so it's not like I throw myself at zombies but if I DO die, having whatever is in my belt helps me avoid the potential "death loop" while trying to get my stuff back. Also, once I've got a permanent home, I don't drop bedrolls when I travel. My bed at home is my only bed. Personal preference. So if I die, chances are I've got some ground to cover to get back to where I was. (Also provides an extra incentive to be super aware when the clock goes past 21:30 because I really don't like waiting till morning to go get my stuff. LOL)

Plus it makes me pay attention to what's on my belt at all times.

Added the Take option like the stations have to the working items :)

Also added destroy to working sinks and stoves and grills. Destroying working versions gives you back the items. Also upped and balanced the economic value so you can make repairing and selling items a career lol

I was so happy to see this. I've had the weirdest time - I've been carrying around a stove repair kit in my pocket for hours but none of the stoves in my game so far have been broken. LOL I even tracked down that one cabin with the basement and the little shed out back - the stove in the kitchen is almost always broken. Nope, not today. My kitchen is almost finished but I've got this gap between the cabinets with a campfire on the floor. I'm gonna download that update and finally get my kitchen finished.

Edit: And naturally, the very next house I walked into had a broken one. So I finally got to use my repair kit! Yay! :D And I don't have to sit in the floor to cook anymore.

  15. There's something about being rained on in this game... Even when I'm in the forest and the temp is fine, I don't like it. I think it's the way the notification is like, "YOU ARE WET" and tracks your percentage like you're supposed to do something about it. Like you're gonna die  or turn into a fish  or something if it hits 100%. Makes me feel bad when I get rained on. If I have to get in the water for any reason, I want to run home and change into dry clothes.  Like I need to fix it so the game will stop telling me about it. LOL

I was up working on my roof today too. Fixed those weird damaged frame blocks and then painted it. "Tan metal roof" I think was the color. It wasn't raining, thankfully, because then I would have felt weird about painting in the rain. bombshelter_md_01 is turning into a beautiful home.

Any thoughts or feedback here from the community at large?

Are The Fun Pimps usually pretty good about sifting the forums for feedback?

The feedback does get back to the devs, yes.

And I agree. I'm fine with more generic spooky noises (like some of the nighttime ambient) occasionally, but I don't really like the sounds of actual creatures that aren't there. It's immersion breaking in those moments when you know what it is because it feels like "the game is doing that" as opposed to "something outside is making that noise". I would love environmental noises that indicate that something may be out there, like you described - snapping twig, rustling grass, etc. I imagine that those noises may have been meant to represent something off in the distance, but the audio just doesn't convey that at all.

Most of all, I would love the ability to turn off all non-environmental ambient so I could experience the game with nothing but the actual sounds of the game world. Just wind, weather, crickets/peepers at night, birds in the forest, and zombies / creatures that are actually within earshot. A natural soundscape.

Also it seems they have nerfed XP for Zombie Moe ('Bloated Walker'). In A19 it was 750, now it's only 400, which seems little bit unfair

Moe doesn't have as much health as he used to though. He's very close in hitpoints to the other regular zombies. I installed a mod to see their healthbar because I was curious where each of them ended up and it was enlightening.

Steel pickaxe on day 1 would be an absolute NIGHTMARE!!  Think of how many hours it would take to swing that thing just to break up a rock cluster.  OMG.  And day 1, with no time to have spent perks on strength or sexual t!  :D:D:D

Yeah, every time I see someone talk about finding steel tools early, I think, "But how do you use them??" because I can't even use iron that early without stopping to rest every other swing. It wouldn't change my early game much because I'd just be sticking it in a box till I can use it without passing out. :D Kind of like when I found that beaker on Day 1 - exciting sure, but building a chem bench is a bit down the road. I could use it in the campfire, but since I don't know how to make the useful items that require it in the campfire...

I did find a quality 6 bone knife on Day 2. That was actually impactful. Really improved my chicken-chopping game.

DDU is great! It has saved me from a full rebuild a couple times! Especially when I had both AMD and Nvidia drivers installed. (Back then, AMD and Nvidia were much closer, so every year when upgrading, I'd choose whoever was best then, and upgrade just the GPU)

If nothing comes out of the hardware stress test, that would be my next recommendation - DDU, GeForce Experience, and get the latest game ready driver through it.

Great! Can you post the basics on that? I have no issue with DDU at all, I just don't feel comfortable helping someone with a process that I am not familiar with myself. (As I told my boss the other day, "advise from experience, not conjecture" LOL)

  20. I'm just posting to say thank you @JaxTeller718. Ever since I saw that coffee maker, I've wanted one. And now I have one and I love it very much. :D I have a microwave too and I heated up some soup to eat. You know, people talk about the zombies, the weapons, all that stuff, but for me, immersion comes from all those little things I can do that makes it just a bit more real, and working appliances may be minor in the grand scheme of things, but they make all the difference for someone wanting to make a home in the apocalypse.

Thanks for the help @Mahnogard. I am going to shut the PC down and Re-seat the RAM and GPU. See if that helps with anything!

    You're welcome!

If you continue to have problems, you may just need a clean driver install. Many people swear by using DDU, a utility for cleanly removing old drivers, but I don't do it that way so I'm not going to try to give advice on something I don't actually do myself. (For the past several years, I've just used the "clean install" option that Nvidia themselves have in their driver installers / Experience and I haven't had any issues.)

The container stopping is an issue that people have had for years.  It's a common error because of how the Nvidia software works. But it's one of those things that can either be a problem or happen because of another problem, if that makes sense. But often a nice, fresh driver install clears it up if it's the Nvidia software that's causing it.

Graphics stuff is weird. Everything can be fine and then one game makes one call that manages to hit on that one thing that's off and then it just flounces off in the most dramatic way possible. The worst part is that the GPU stops sending so you have no idea what's going on because of the black screen.

  22. The fact that the log ends without any errors makes me think that the system itself killed everything, it didn't come from the game. It may not be that anything is "bad" with that hardware, but since this is a new-to-you computer, that means it's been moved around recently. Stuff gets loose sometimes. If you're comfortable doing so, I would suggest taking out and re-seating both your RAM and your GPU as a first step. If the GPU is "off" just a tiny amount, it can be totally fine... until it's not. Not a bad idea to check the connections from the power supply as well.

You can also open the start menu, search for "reliability history", open that and see if there are any telling "critical events" entries for the day it happened. May be some clues there as well.
