  1. I figured a few things out eventually last night, ugg my head still hurts from trying so hard. Advance mode was more confusing than Simple. However, now knowing your intent for Simple mode, I have to say its not so simple to understand at first glance, it still needs a clean-n-fresh Steam install to work correctly.

What I figured out was that with each mod you want to play requires a completely fresh clean install of the game from Steam, even after you delete local content thru Steam you have to go thru and manually delete the folder as well because steam does not delete modded folders. After you reinstall the game (Steam) you can then, using Advanced mode, make a copy, and the desired mod will install to the copied folder. Play it at this point to make sure the mod works as intended.

After that one mod is installed, repeat same steps, delete local content, delete the folder, reinstall game, then in 7Mod Launcher, pick another mod, copy to folder and again launch the modded game. Repeat this for every mod you want to play. At this point you should now have 2 working mods and be able to switch between them.

Now I dont know if this is the process you intend Sphereii, but as I said its not clear how the process works when you first look at it.

I did try to create a different folder to copy the game to and it didnt copy to that folder. Slim chance I might not have properly selected the folder but if you make the default pointer to use [%app path%/7DTD/ ] instead of using the underscore [%app path%/7_days_to_die/ ], that might be easier to find in file explorer. Being full of New Years cheer didnt help :biggrin-new: which might also be the reason I missed the log file in the View menu. IMO, save (replace?append?) a copy the of the log file to each mods folder each time that mod is launched. Whatever works, I'd like to know what went wrong if a mod doesnt launch or there is an error.

Once its figured out, its a nice tool, but the path to figure it out is a ....steep curve. :untroubled:

Do you have a group on steam? if not make one, I'd join!

EDIT:Oh the black screens was from not manually deleting the existing Steam install folder before using a clean-fresh Steam install

Edit2:just mention there is no uninstallation, do mention that how to do a clean install which includes deleting the install folder before re-installing the game.

It's strange you had to re-validate and clean up your default steam paths after each mod install. The Launcher simply copies it, and shouldn't make any changes to it.

You are correct, that once a mod gets installed in the default steam path, that "re-validate" and "delete local content" through Steam does not adequately clean up the folder. This is more of a steam quirk, and why I suggest keeping the Steam path clean of any mods.

  2. I was looking for a simple mod changer so i can play different mods for both SP and server play. This Application (V1.0.2.0) is nice but extremely confusing at first. I cant seem to successfully launch the game with any mod causing blank screen also cant launch the game without any mods installed without being forced to do a fresh install from Steam.

    a few other notes:

-no "favorites" ability, right click "Add to My Mods" is not the same thing nor does it actually copy the mod to your My Mods.

-tried to find out the latest version on the external website but doesnt give any dates when the last update was, cant determine if this is the cause of my blank screen or not.

-Blank screen when launching any mod.

-Cant just uninstall a mod, it ruins the steam install, so you have to delete everything and re-download the game again.

-Purge game files deletes the everything including the game install. kinds stupid with Steam since you have to right click-delete local content to get Steam to re-install the game.

    -Help file is ... confusing.

    What I'd like to see:

-My Fav Mods list, not the same as My Mods, Im not modding anything or changing any mods, its a bookmark adding to a bookmark list.

-expandable description windows, ability to change its size.

-a warning that when "Purging" Steam will not automatically re-install files.

-change the "Pick a 7 Days to Die game folder to play a mod with" to something like "Pick the folder with the 7dtd executable". If thats not the intent here make it clearer what this folder pointer is supposed to point to if its not pointing to the pointed folder for the pointed file. (LOL)

-I changed my installation folders to another HDD (Who doesnt?), does this mean the Launch with Steam wont work now? so tooltip="This is not valid Steam folder..."

-Enable EAC should add "if server requires it"? If this isnt check does that mean its disabled in the game? Maybe even make on a per-Mod isntead of global (as it appears). [EDIT: It shows properly in Advanced but not Simple ? ]

-Validadate Game Files From Steam doesnt actually check the files so it launches the game instead??? Intended purpose seems broken so just remove it.

    -font sizing.

-ability to indicate whether a mod is for SP or MP games.

    Happy New Year.

You dont have to pay attention to any of this. I just want an app that will switch between mods, one for SP one for server play. took 3 beers to post this! /cheers! :wink-new:

nothing is working... now to install anther fresh copy ... 5,6,7...I lost count now.

oh is there a log of everything or a way to log all actions?

Hey Death3gnomes, sorry you are having trouble.

The app auto-updates to the latest version, so I typically don't post which version is the latest.

You may be interested in the Advanced mode. There's a toggle on the screen called "Simple" and "Advanced". Simple mode re-uses your existing Steam folder, attempting to swap out mods. However, Advanced mode makes a copy of your Steam folder, which isolates each mod. I think this is what you are looking for, where you can run multiple mods easily, just by simply relaunching through the Launcher.

Simple mode was added after Advanced Mode, and was designed with the type of gamer that is only interested in playing a single mod. Some of these mods are very indepth, and would take a long time to master.

Advanced mode is meant to satisfy the needs of the other types of gamers, who are interested in playing different mods, connecting to different servers, trying new things, etc.

Some mods modify DLLs, which will get in the way of EAC checks. This could explain why you are seeing the black screen on a few mods.

I only maintain a master list of available mods, and I work with the modders somewhat on what settings they want. For instance, Dawn of the New Apocalypse, adds in stallionsden's bigger backpack mod. Since this modifies the DLL, we disable EAC through the configuration.

Other times, I just maintain a link of where the mods are to be downloaded from, such as Spider's True Survival or Valmar's mods. In these cases, I usually don't have any idea of what files each mod adds or changes, so it's not necessarily possible for me to know if it's valid for SP only, or if MP, or even if it'll violate EAC.

For uninstalling mods, it's challenging. As mentioned above, files can be added, removed, and changed without me really knowing which files have changed. Nor is there a master list of files that have changed, which would be maintained by the mod creater. In the beginning, only the XML files were being changed in mods, so we could create a back up of the Config file, and just switch back. However, with more DLL modifying going on, along with SDX, a lot more files can be changed. The Launcher will actually replace any file that the modder wants changed, in order for their mod to install correctly.

This is why the Advanced mode exists, since it'll only install a single mod per game instance. It does take up more hard drive space, but it's a far cleaner process.

If you are using Advanced mode, you should not be using Launch From Steam, as this will launch the only copy of the game that Steam knows about.

My personal setup is as follows:

    - Default Steam folder is clean, vanilla copy of the latest game.

    - Using Advanced mode, I have the Destination folder set to C:\MyMods\

    - Added the 7d2dmodlauncher.exe to Steam, as a non-Steam game. This allows me to use my Steam overlay in all modded games.

Under the View menu, there's a Log Files option. This will display two log files, available in the drop down box:

    - The latest copy of the Launcher log file itself

    - The latest copy of the output.log from the currently selected game

It gives you an option to Upload Log File up to pastebin, then gives you a link. You can copy and paste that link into a forum post if you'd like me to review.

I do test all mods in the Default list, which is available if you go to File -> Load Defaults. However, I do not do any kind of epic game play throughout, nor am I aware of all changes that a modder does on their files. Sometimes things get inadvertently broken, but a kind message to me will draw my attention to it, re-test it, and fix it, if I can.

I'll look over, and try to make the GUI a bit more intuitive.

Thanks for the feedback, and let me know if you still need help. Feel free to add me to Steam for some one-on-one help.

Happy New Year to you as well :)

  3. War of the Walkers is now added to the default of the 7D2D Mod Launcher.

dwallorde: since it's hosted on envul.com, the download link we will change every time you update. Send me a PM when you do an update, and I'll update the Mod Launcher.

  4. New Update is released. Current version is now 1.0.2.0. Restart the launcher, or click on the original post links to get the fresh version.

    - Removed textuploader.com host check, which was slowing down start up by a considerable amount.

    - Added some github integration, to allow faster downloads of larger mods, such as SDX.

    - Added a Disable UNET check mark for Advanced Mode. This will disable unet, which has been causing players on servers to be disconnected frequently.

    - Added SDX-ready hooks for when the new SDX is dropped.

  5. does it make a full copy of game or does it just add mod files? Have large SDD and HDD but have ton of junk on them so limited on space atm till get new drives. So in mean time wanted to know how works? also a few friends use laptops with limited space also

Simple Mode uses the Steam folder and tries to swap mods in and out. Sometimes you'll need to delete your Steam folder, and re-verify in Steam, if things get mucked up.

Advanced Mode creates a copy, isolating each mod, but at a cost of about 2G per install folder.

  6. No need to aplogise, the slight problems Ive been having, and others in the thread, you've been all over it quickly.. thats very much appreciated.

And thanks again for the launcher, its made playing mods so easy compared to copy n paste over vanilla and having to uninstall to play other mods...

New Update has been pushed out. Re-run the Launcher to auto-update to 1.0.1.9, and let me know if you have any trouble.

  7. Hi again, I followed your instructions but unfortunately the game starts up for a few seconds and closes again..

But, I decided to install another version of valmod too see how that went, the Vamlod OH Big Backpack, and the game loaded up,

I entered my save world and all seems fine..

It would be cool to see what is wrong when I try the regualar overhaul.. in the meantime I can play the big backpack version for now..

Thanks, and sorry about the trouble. I'll load up the Overhaul tonight and see if I can figure out what's going on with it.

  8. lol he sure is.. I'll have to check out the bigger backpack as that will be pretty usefull.. theres never enough space in the vanilla bag.

Im using the regular Valmod Overhaul with nothing else along side.

Okay great. So this line in the log you sent me:

    E:/7DTD_Mod_Launcher/7Days2Mod/Valmod_Overhaul/7DaysToDie_Data/../Data/Bundles/BlockTextureAtlasesD

Notice the D at the end? The Server's Assembly-CSharp.dll calls that file, which implies that the Launcher is grabbing Valmar's server DLL and installing it.

    So let's try this:

    1) Click on File, click on Clear -> Clear Mod History.

    2) Click on File, Load Defaults

    3) Click on 7Days2Mod/Valmar-Overhaul again.

    4) Delete Mod

Then go through the process of making it again, and we'll see if it's different this time. Maybe your client didn't receive the new Config settings.

  9. Im not sure what you mean by config, and yes I have the latest 1.0.1.7..

I simply reinstalled 7dtd through steam then downloaded the latest launcher.. and chose to download OH to E drive through the launcher.thanks

Sorry, by Config, I mean, which mod, in the Launcher, are you using?

Valmod Overhaul Big Backpack, Valmod Overhaul, Valmod Overhaul + Compo pack, Valmod Overhaul Big Backpack + Compo (wow, Valmar is really busy...)

  10. Hi Im still not having any luck starting valmod OH through the launcher... I uninstalled everything and deleted all the folders and applications involving 7DTD on steam and the launcher..

I have just now installed the launcher and 7dtd 15.1 through steam, downloaded valmod oh to E drive through the launcher.. but just as before, 7dtd starts for a sec then closes.

Here are the log files incase you can see anything..

    7DTD Valmod OH output_log

    http://pastebin.com/3Qbkjvv7

Which Config did you use for Valmod OH? It looks like it's using the Server's Assembly-CSharp.dll. Is the Launcher version 1.0.1.7?

  11. When you set the game time, it sets to time-16 hours, according to your reply a week or so ago. You mentioned it was a bug you'd forgotten to fix.

I'd think it would just be a simple math adjust or input error.

I'm sorry, I'm still not clear. The Launcher doesn't touch anything to do with time.

There's a bug where sometimes TempMods is appended to the end of the path?

  12. Ah wait, you are saying delete everything and basically reinstalling the game. I was just deleting a few folders I thought were touched by the mods. I will try the full install and then the advanced mode and report back.

Yes. The Bigger Back Pack mod adds in the DLL, which changes a file in a folder you probably weren't thinking about deleting ( 7DaysToDie_Data/Managed/ ), since it looks like such a scary folder.

  13. Unchecking steam did not work. Here is the log file for that try. http://pastebin.com/qebYQhdL

Thanks. I fixed the other configs, so when we get you up and running, the Compo Pack section will work for you as well.

Since you have the option of Launching from Steam, you must be using the Simple Mode?

In Simple Mod, all the mods get installed in the same default Steam Folder. What I think is causing the problem is that the Server DLL mod for the bigger back packs is installed, which is killing the game.

So let's get you fixed up.

    1) You'll want to clean out and delete your 7 Days to Die in your Steam folder, and re-validate it.

    a) Right click on "7 Days to Die" in Steam, and click on Properties

    b) Click on Local Files

    c) Click on Browse Local Files

    d) select everything in the folder that pops up, and delete it.

    e) Back in Steam, click on Verify Integriy of Game Cache. This will re-download the game fresh.

Once that's complete, we'll switch you over to Advanced Mode.

    2) In the 7D2D Mod Launcher, click on Advanced

    3) Select the Mod you want ( Valmod Expansion Big BackPack, for example).

    4) By the Destination Folder for Mods, click on the blue folder, and select a folder where the mods will be. Something like D:\Launcher, or C:\Launcher

    5) Once Selected, you'll be able to choose "Copy from an existing Copy". This will copy the game over into a new folder.

    6) Once completed, you'll see where the game is installed, example: D:\Launcher\7Days2Mod\Valmod_Expansion_Big_Backpack

    a) if you see a \TempMods on the end, click on another mod, then back to that one.

    7) Click on Play.

Repeat for all the different Mods you want to play.

The reason that Advanced is more appropriate for you, is that you may be switching mods back and forth. Some mods will have a bigger back pack mod, while others may not, so by separating them, you'll save yourself headaches if it fails on you.

  14. Well one thing I noticed is that I was playing Valmod Overhaul with Comp Pack. Does not look like you did different files for that area. I noticed you did different ones for just the overhaul and expansion areas. So I tried launching the non backpack versions there and still got a few seconds run time from the game before it shut down.

    http://pastebin.com/5a7mCHKZ

and yes, this is the latest version you put out last night.

My bad, I think I forgot to update the Compo pack's config. I'll do that in a few minutes.

In the log file, I noticed this:

    INFO 1 _7D2DLauncher.frmMain - launching: steam://rungameid/251570

You have the Launch With Steam setting enabled. Try to uncheck that and see if it changes things.

  15. Did you fix the time set bug? I find we are using it quite often. I'm hoping distant freinds can connect to a server using this tomorrow or Sat. Specific info on requirements and what ports need to be opened was a bit hard to pin down.

We used steam to connect the other night, but I suspect that probably introduces more lag that a standalone home server.

time set bug? The only thing I added was filtering of files out of the download.

  16. Not sure what I am doing wrong, but is still not working for me. Game runs a few seconds and then closes.

Which Mod are you trying? And can you post your log file for the 7 Days to Die? You can go to the View menu, then Log Files, and select the game's log file.

The version of the Mod Launcher should be displayed too. Old version is 1.0.1.6. New version is 1.0.1.7

  17. New update should be rolling out to the Cloud. Version 1.0.1.7 should automatically update next time you start the program.

If it does not update, click on the original link again, and it'll install the update.

I added the ability to exclude file paths in the Config files, which will allow Valmar's mods to work.

In addition to updating Valmar's config, I also added additional Configs for Valmod, to include options for the Bigger Back Packs for Overhaul and Expansion.

  18. I think I traced the issue for Overhaul.

It looks like the Backpack expansion mod is being installed, but grabbing the Assembly-CSharp.dll from the Server folder, which is causing the issue with the BlockTextureAtlsasesD file, which only exists on the Server.

I'll see if there's something I can do on my end to filter it.
