  1. Thanks. I'll see if I can remember where to find secret stashes (I don't think I've memorized very many POIs with them, sadly). hmm. I have a decent M4 and a level 27 M60 and I don't really feel they do enough damage, My titanium spear does, but doing the first lab with melee doesn't seem like a great idea based on past experiences. But yeah, I should make a NiCd mod for it, and I should be able to make Blessed Metal soon too. Last time I did the first lab I at least found some laser swords and laser pistols which would help when the demons start to appear. Odd RNG this game. I haven't found any shotguns at all, I've only found 7 hazmat fibers in all (last game I had four hazmat mods at this point), no drones. Traders don't have anything good. Treasure chests have basically been all crap (I even tried taking a bunch to the desert and reading them there for the higher loot stage, but except for one, the game just placed them 10km away in the forest biome...).
  2. Having a slight problem in my current game. I'm level 80 and I've never found a lathe (loot has been kind of mediocre all game, despite me having loot goggles and having all loot perks, except for the watch I found when I was level 23). I have all Better Barter and Charismatic Nature and the traders just aren't getting any lathes either. The only coil weapon I have is a level 37 coilsniper and since gamestage keeps rising, I think I'll soon run into severe problems if I don't get better weapons. Are there any particular good places to look for lathes? Until this game I've always just found them early on, so I haven't really noticed where I found them. Not had any luck with Shotgun Messiahs or Working Stiffs so far, but maybe they're the best places?
  3. hm. yeah, they can. I played with them in one map and there was a difference. Many of them are huge too, which I found a little annoying. My desert was full of wilderness POIs that looked like they'd take at least a day to clear. Though, I mainly stopped using CP because of the delayed spawns issue I had; having a ton of ferals, rads and demos spawn on your head two minutes after you think you've cleared a POI is a death sentence in an unknown POI (in vanilla POIs I at least have some idea of where things should be spawning). yeh, I'm having trouble finding some settings that really make a difference without driving graphics quality into the ground. ah, my monitor is ancient so I'm still on 1920x1080. Kind of impressive. I played the early vanilla A20s on my old system with 8GB and win8.1 and it worked okay, but I don't think I would have even tried DF on it.
  4. I realize this is something of a moving target, but how much RAM would people recommend for DF? I have an i7-11700F, 3060ti and 16GB RAM, which handles vanilla fine, but I get some pretty severe hitches in DF, and fighting in the center of large cities gets a bit too interesting (I tried lowering zombies to 15 to see if that would help, but that seems to cause POI spawns to be delayed, which makes for some extremely dangerous situations). I'm not going to upgrade CPU or GPU any time soon, but I would think more RAM could help at least some (and the system has two free slots, so, in theory, it should be relatively painless).
  5. Anna. I had the same happen in one game and everything worked fine up until Eve's last quest (I started over on another map at that point because the map I had generated was very annoying). I don't think it causes problems.
  6. ah, I thought it was supposed to have a coloured node, but I don't have any at all in the parts of wasteland I've revealed so far. Everything is just dark grey or yellow (not sure what that is, but it's something larger than nodes). Uranium is plentiful in my map. I think I've run into twenty deposits or so. No plutonium, though. I made a new mine in another part of the wasteland and finally found some titanium. Only one deposit, but it's been good for 30K so far, so that'll be enough for now (and I hit both lead and nitrate on the way in, which I've had problems finding too, so that was nice). I don't have the Mechanic mastery yet, so no gyrocopter so far, but there's some kind of conspiracy going on right now; nearly all the traders have the small helicopter for sale. It feels like the game is hinting at something (but it'd be a better hint if it'd hand me an extra 100K Dukes, so I could afford the thing). yeh, I've tried, but I don't see any nodes, so far. hm. That's a point. Hard to do much about screamers when you're at bedrock. You can either just leave or wait for them to get to you. I think the deposit I finally found is actually near two of those 3x3 piles.
  7. Thanks! yeh, I kind of figured (especially since I did find uranium, so it 's not like all the DF ores are just missing). I have coilguns, but I can't make titanium armor because I'm lacking the titanium (I wrenched everything in the "The Reward" bunker, twice, and in Anna's house, but that only gave me enough for 40 forged titanium and I used that for a pickaxe). I have found some titanium armor pieces, so I might just be overly cautious; I saw many, many big scary things while I was driving around in the wasteland on a scouting trip. Made me a tad nervous... I've only fought fairly standard stuff up until now (playing without blood moons), so I don't have a feel for how well I'd handle the more horrible things. Guess I should find out.
  8. Is there something special about titanium ore? I got titanium crafting unlocked (and anti-rad pills), so I went to a spot near the wasteland, dug down to bedrock and into the wasteland. After mining so much in there that I went from level 70 to level 78, I still hadn't found any titanium, only uranium and nothing else. I know I could go on the surface and check the boulders there, but I don't think I would survive that, and I figured titanium would appear like other ores so I'd have a decent chance of running into some, but it's apparently not that easy. Maybe it doesn't appear near bedrock (judging from various youtubers using the same approach I did, it seems like it should)? Or maybe I'm just insanely unlucky... That wouldn't really surprise me. This is a pregenerated DF map (I think it's the same one Khaine used in "No Class, No Hope"), so it shouldn't be some world generation problem.
  9. Thanks. I tried asking on a forum if people had the problem in vanilla, but got no replies. Which may not be odd as I'd been using the first drone for maybe ten hours before it died and the second drone for a fair bit longer, so it's not something that happens constantly. Probably takes some very specific circumstances.
  10. Just wanted to ask if DF has a known problem with drones. In my last two games I've found drones relatively early on and they both died suddenly when nothing was happening. In the first instance I was standing in my base, no attacks going on or anything, and the drone suddenly said it had to shut down to due to excessive damage (or some such) and dropped to the floor. Granted, it only had 9 HP left (hadn't wanted to lose levels by repairing it and I couldn't craft drones yet), but nothing was happening to take those few HPs away. The second time I was standing in Razor's compound, up on the walkway, away from any crafting stations or other things (which I hadn't used anyway), and the drone gave me the message and dropped to the floor with 0 HP. It had had 79 HP left seconds before. Again there were no attacks or anything going on. I know they can get set on fire when hovering over advanced forges and such, but I always check and I've never seen it cause damage to them (there weren't any advanced forges around either time they died, anyway). (Edit: I should mention this was in singleplayer).
