  1. B21: Two welding torches and one calipers from zombie drops on day 3, level 11, Laborer, Quality Joe tier 2. That feels better than one welding torch from trader on day 15, Charismatic Nature tier 4 or so, in B20. (day = 120 minutes). Also, much harder to hit things with wooden bow in B21 than in B20? Edit: ALSO, the iron spear is horrific a bit annoying. Stone spear, scrap and steel spears are fine, but iron spear is like some 1mm needle that feels like it misses a lot in situations where it shouldn't.
  2. Right. I don't think I've ever had an opportunity to try the starter immunity with radiation before, but I didn't think it'd work on that.
  3. ah, thanks. I figured it was possible, but didn't know how. Seems easy enough. In DF 4.1.1 or so, I always got a desert spawn, but they were rare in DF 4.1.2 and apparently close to impossible in V5. My second B21 map didn't place me in the wasteland, so maybe some odd glitch with the first one.
  4. Made a new RWG map for B21 and spawned in the wasteland twice (different save game names). No radiation, apparently, but I gave up after attracting attention from ferals I couldn't outrun. Bit funny since in B20 I made 5 or 6 different maps and tried maybe thirty different save game names and I always spawned in the forest (I was trying for desert). Trying another new map for B21.
  5. I should note that I took Survivalist as my second class and I think the workstation tools first showed up at the traders after I put some points into Charismatic Nature, but it may have been a coincidence. I would think that no matter what Charismatic Nature does give a better chance, though.
  6. I'm not sure if they're limited to specific traders. I feel like I've seen calipers at other traders, at least. I actually found calipers in a Working Stiff crate too, but it seems like a rather rare thing. I'd guess most of the other tools can be found in those crates too, if you're lucky.
  7. I only have the vanilla motorcycle so far, but I found a supercharger mod and put it in and it does make it much faster (in A20 I pretty much always installed the supercharger mod right away on everything, so I don't really know what the default speeds of the other, non-vanilla, vehicles are). yeah, it's so nice. If it wasn't for DF, I doubt I'd be playing A21 at all (I might have tried one of the other overhauls, but I do much prefer DF). I know it's a ton of work for Khaine and his people, and it's very much appreciated.
  8. In B20 hazmat pants scrap to military fiber (I haven't found other hazmat suit parts so far, so don't know if it's a general thing).
  9. ah, and a welding torch from Bob. This is with both Barter and Charismatic Nature maxed, though. And 8 traders found. Still don't know if they drop from crates at all in B20; this is a RWG map with only A21 vanilla POIs (plus the DF quest POIs) and there's remarkably few Working Stiffs stores on the map. I think I've only found 5 crates so far (13 two-hour days). I probably should have left DF's pre-A21 POIs in...
  10. I just found calipers and tool & die set at Joel's, so now I have some hope I may be able to find a welding torch somewhere too.
  11. ah, I never noticed in vanilla, but I didn't play it for all that long before I gave up on it either. I don't think I'm being quite objective right now since I'm trying to find workstation tools without spawning them in, so it was pretty disappointing to see no change in their inventory. But in A20 and earlier reset day was also something to look forward to, which was nice (OTOH, traders have far too much impact in vanilla A21, I think).
  12. heh. This creeped the hell out of me for a while. I thought some bug made those corpses grow around my base, like flowers or something. Eventually I remembered the patch notes had said something about gore blocks... Bonus question: I'm confused by trader mechanics now. Most of the time, trader reset doesn't seem to cause much, if any, change in inventory. Is their inventory governed by Barter or by your level with them or something else?
  13. There are some changes, I think. I didn't play A21 vanilla long enough to be certain if they're from vanilla or DF, but I've noticed zombies often don't start beating on the structure you're on if there's no way for them to get up. I didn't know how much Judie Witch has changed, so I went in there on day 1 in one of my games and found some unexpected radiated wights and such, so I ran to the silo, where I'd knocked out the lower ladders, and while I was on top of it, the wights would run into the house and garage, get up as far as they could, punch through the roofs, and then run out towards me and fall down on the ground, even though there was like 4-8 meters of empty space to me. They never attacked the silo itself.
  14. huh. Interesting. So maybe they're merely insanely rare (and/or they only appear in air drops).
  15. I haven't found any in three games, so it seems like they don't exist as loot, but they are in the mod, so you can use creative mode to get them.
  16. This has probably been reported already, but the Steel Spear recipe didn't unlock for me with Bladed Weapon Crafting 3. Also, an old and very very minor thing, but the Wooden Bow description still says 'scraps to bow parts' (like it did in DF4.x).
  17. Very weird then. At this point in 4.1.2 I would already have found tons, so I'm pretty sure they can't drop in this game. Maybe using a B17 save with B19 does cause problems, after all. I guess I should start over. Can't really progress much without a welding torch. Very minor thing, btw: All treasure map 'quests' have failed for me. Right after unlocking the chests with lockpicks, I get a message saying the quest failed (and they get marked as failed in the quest list), but I can open the chests and they seem to contain what you'd expect.
  18. I would do a clean install of the game and B19; it sounds like something is rather broken. I seem to be getting a decent variety of stuff from zombie drops. Only had two air drops so far, but the first was one painkiller and one bandage (not even a first aid one. Possibly the most depressing air drop I've ever had) and the second had a portable lathe. Fewer items than in 4.1.2, I think, but a bit too early to tell for me. What I'm not getting at all from anything is tools for workstations, except for sewing kits, anvils and bellows (i.e. those that are in vanilla), but maybe they're not in the drop tables yet.
  19. ah, right. I can hear splashing when I walk into the hole with the rain catcher, but I can't see water and I can't fill jars from it either. I'll try planting something around it and see what happens.
  20. I haven't had problems using my B17 save with B19 here so far. Been a couple of 120 minuite days since I updated and things seem to be working like they should. -- Also, just to be certain; rain catchers don't work yet, right?
  21. I don't know if this is of interest at all, but I just noticed that in 4.1.2, titanium boots (might be the case for other titanium armor parts too; I didn't think to test that at first and then I couldn't afford to) scrap to military fiber, which seems like it might not be intended considering that crafting them doesn't involve military fiber. I can't craft military fiber yet, so it did allow me to craft certain things earlier than I probably should have been able to (Advanced Tactical Rigging and the Large Backpack, for example). Granted, I'm one level from being able to craft the fiber, so it's not exactly a huge exploit, but I guess it could be if you don't have Scientist at all.
  22. heh. Of course, I found all the Vehicles for Dumb@%$#s books right after I started Mechanic, but I do like using junk turrets too, so it's okay (or, it would be if I could ever manage to loot a battery; just spent two hours wrenching cars without getting one).
  23. yeah, I feel like I've taken that into account (as well as my nearsightedness), so I'm probably just having really bad luck. I just got worried something was broken in my installation, but I don't know why it'd be and everything else seems to work like it should. I guess Mechanic will be my next class then (I have a minibike, but trader reset day is 11km of puttering slowly from trader to trader, so I need something that doesn't make me feel like I need to get out and push).
  24. Just to make sure, repairable vehicles are still in version 4.1.2, right? I think I've found all the update notes since I last played (repairable vehicles were in then), and I don't see anything about them having been removed again, on the contrary it seems like they've had some improvements. I just can't find any. I've spent days scouring three large cities in my map (DFalls-Medium2-NoPEP) and haven't found anything at all, not even bikes. In previous games I always found several very early on, so this feels a bit odd. Based on what I saw back then, I'm guessing they randomly replace wrecked vehicles in certain POIs, but I've checked the type of POIs I found them in and there aren't any. Could just be very bad RNG in that case, which wouldn't be a first for me, but I wanted to check.
  25. yeah, I like the idea of the small maps, but I usually end up feeling a little boxed in. The addition of the repairable vehicles is extremely nice in the early game when you're on a larger map.
