Walterstj
I've heard all kinds of things about caves... I dug a tunnel over to the cave in the desert and pretty much reversed mined it from bedrock up... The ores weren't any more substantial than the iron and shale I was already getting digging around to start... Other than now I have an extremely fancy multi level staircase heading down to bedrock, what's the big attraction to caves? I know the biomes are all different for ores, desert for iron, shale... Perishton for nitrate... Forest for lead... Does the same hold true for caves?
Damselx1
Caves can be a good starting point for mining, especially when ores are visible (was perhaps better when the biomes held a wider range of ores. You can get nitrate from the stalactites and collect mushrooms. Some people have used caves as the start of a base or zombie trap.
Nootcaase
Caves also have stalagmites and stalactites of nitrate. They also tend to be to only place to find mushrooms growing naturally. Most also have loot zombies, the kind that drop Magnum parts. Well... so this was mostly covered.
jackleroy
Also ammo crates. At least the one in western navegane that's protected by dogs has one.
UnsentSoul
Caves are a huge inconvenience to me... I couldn’t care less about mushrooms and I get plenty of nitrate from boulders.
Thelek
caves are much more useful on random maps, and more abundant, too. but the ones on the default map are good for getting the cement mixer.
