Jumping while crouched - a question

So at the start of the game, you can't really jump while crouched. Well, it's more of a pathetic hop. But I've noticed for a few Alphas now, eventually, with NO points in Parkour, you can jump the height of 1 block while crouched. Does anyone know what governs this? It's not related to any game mods, because I was able to do it in a vanilla game.

I know what you mean.  Rightly or wrongly, I always attributed it to Urban Combat Volume 4.  "Sneak landing make less sound and sneak jump height is not reduced"

I have been doing a jump and then crouch mid air to fit into smallish areas above certain things. Like the counter top pass through between the kitchen and the dining area in one of the restaurants. Other areas this works as well

This is correct, pretty sure.

...I feel dumb. I remember that book being a thing too, but I never put 2 and 2 together. Thank you!
