cant open any boxes with E

Hello,

we have a problem with oure 10 slot Alpha 21.1 game server.

No mods installed.

everything runs great untill today.

Now we cant open any boxes with the E button, but doors can be open.

it seems like a connection problem because other chunks dont load and if i try to open a box in oure base and just wait für 1-2 min i can get in.

no errors while plaing.

i also cant use any browser while playing 7days.

speedtest when im not on the server is normal.

i tryed to restart, stop and start the server, also pc restarts and connect with another lan cable.

other games are working.

any ideas?

Greetings

I have been able to reproduce this issue. A newly set up Dedicated vanilla Server under Linux (Ubuntu).'
Once you join you have approximately 1-2 Minutes before the issue occurs.

1. Loot containers are no longer accessible. Pressing E on them does nothing

2. Zombies still hunt you down, yet upon killing them they remain in their standing animation but are dead

Once this occurs you are still able to craft objects, access and manipulate the inventory and break parts of the map.

On the server side:
The standard Output log gives no indication of the error happening.

If you have any questions or require logs. Feel free to ask and i will provide them both server and client side.

Hi, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, there seems to be a particular formula for creating the loot container issue, including on various distributions of Linux Ubuntu. Absolutely anything could help; currently, I've found if a client has an item selected/hovering (like moving) and the server/p2p host shuts the session down that breaks some things, but not the looting ability.

  • Is the server establishing via Litenetlib, and are clients connecting to it via Litenetlib? (You'll see in the log folder, look for Litenetlib, if it connects it's fine, if it fails via litenetlib, let me know). Although this doesn't appear to mean anything.
  • Is the client on WiFi?
  • Is there an active firewall that might not have exceptions for the game?
  • Port forwarding done for the server?
  • Mods, or other changes to XML files?

Stuff along these lines. I even tossed my phone in the backyard and connected to it by hotspot and hosted that computer as a P2P and connected another client that had a VPN tunneled to somewhere in Europe (I am in the USA), and this still didn't happen... so I'm/we're at a loss here in reproducing it.

I have seen this exactly once back in A20, a client was playing with us in P2P with me as the host, and he had really bad internet and lost functionality, but after we all restarted it never happened again over the course of a couple of months in that game....

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

Here is the rundown:
There have been no mods or changes to the xml file apart from a change in server Name and Password.
The clients are on ethernet

The problem can be reproduced with multiple clients
Port forwarding is active but for testing purposes i deactivated the firewall. The result is the same on an allow all
The windows firewall on my client has an exception. For the others i unfortunately cant verify.
Could you share the default directory for litenetlib as it doesn't seem to be in the 7days directory

Further Testing that happened so far:
enabled SteamNetworking: Players couldn't join at all
Deletion of the server side save: Players were able to connect yet no one could open any containers -> issue persists
Deactivate Firewall on client devices: No change

The server also seems to report false information to the server browser.
Currently it is shut down. Yet even after a relaunch of the game the browser shows the server with allegedly 2 active players. Attempting to join doesn't work, as expected as there is nothing answering.

Useful information. To answer about litenetlib, it's not a directory like that, it's a protocol that the game uses for networking (well, one of the protocols that we have, steam networking and EOS are two others, but Litenetlib is by far the best). It automatically will use Litenetlib if it can make a solid connection. Pretty much think of Litenetlib as a direct connection, and steam networking and EOS are "VPN's" of a sort, the clients go through one of those and then those services route the connection to the server/host.

I will test some P2P now. Should the issue be resolved among all clients the issue would most certainly lie in the server and how it handles the requests

Thanks for doing that, that was what I was going to ask you to try. If you don't mind, I wouldn't mind trying to connect to your server (or P2P if the issue is there too). If I can get some debugging information, maybe that will help.

Sure, let me get it up and running again. And remove the Password.

You should be able to access the server CNF Playtogether

Thanks! Loading up Unity now and will connect when it's done.

Hey @Jimmyicedcoffee could you do me a huge favor and remove EAC for me for this test only? Sadly, you can't run EAC with the Editor. I can make a local build but it won't have near as much debug information.

Hmmm. I've been on for a bit, haven't had the issue yet. Spawned in a drone and a 4x4, placed a land claim and whatnot. I'll leave it running with some monitoring going on, and really need to have some foods so I'll leave it running. If at anypoint you need to shut the server down, feel free to do so it won't hurt any data monitoring. Thanks for doing this.

So, Ive been testing p2p with the people for a while now. after hours it is completely stable. This doesn't seem to make any sense to me now. If the Clients were having an issue with their Net it would show up in the P2P session as well. But seeing that this works id have suggests a server fault. But since you are able to verify stability it would point to a client issue..

Yeah it's looking like that. I am still pretty soldily connected to your server, and everything is still responsive. This is still good information though in trying to pinpoint what's going on. I'll have to look into tinkering with stability.

Woooohooo. I have some findings:

1. I enabled firewall logs on a faullty client to verify that everything is talking as it shouls

It does

2. launched the game with EAC off. It weirdly worked. Containers were interactable.
Investigating this i left and rejoined. this time it didnt work to the point that it wouldnt even display the game  even though the console showed a successful placement of the player.

3. tabbing out of the game caused some longer load times and hickups
we are getting somewhere

4. Tabbing out and loading a browser window during the initial connection phase causes massive issues. Ranging from infinite loading screens. falling through the map obn spawn and ... not being able to interact with containers. It seems to me the issue is caused by the client simultaneously loading something in a browser. Can you reproduce this @Jugginator

have u solved the problem? a new player from us has the same problem...

Unfortunately it seems like this is a multifaceted issue with no one fix. But one point to start at would be to check the network settings again. Did they open the port in their firewall? Is their internet connection to the server stable?

Id suggest installing PingPlotter and have your user keep the test running against the server for a while. Then attach the results in here
