Don't screamers target things that generate heat?  That would be my guess for how they're getting damaged/destroyed.

I always thought so, but then most of us don't leave our chemistry tables outside.

The only thing I can think of for the discrepancy is that mine might be in another chunk so the heat that is drawing screamers isn't there but where my base is.

I tend to have the forges, campfires & mixers running almost all the time, which is a lot of heat.

That and a daytime horde is easy XP so I am quickly out there to deal with it, but I can say with 100% certainty that any damage I've ever had to any of my water collectors is incidental.

Incorrect. We have lost several to zeds on more than one occasion.

Maybe they were poorly placed and attacked by raging zeds?

They do not target them directly unless something changed in the last patch.

Since I am late game and don't need as much water anymore, I have taken to putting 1 or 2 on the roof of each base and calling it good.

My 1st base where I have 4 on the ground still I don't visit too often lately.

In the early game this works but in the mid to late game the feral and radioactive cops introduce a new problem. The feral cops spit 3 streams and the radioactive 5, so they can hit you multiple times even if they only vomit once. This is how I catch an infection in most T6 quests. My advice is to start making your own antibiotics.

Now see this is why I don't really like to use content mods (although it's more a QOL thing).

So the current vomit bull@%$# with how it just rips through blocks and I just can't bring myself to use only solid cubes for a base, I'm probably one of many that uses Jaxteller's mod (THANK YOU!) but it could be argued that an unintended side effect contributes to infection being a joke and I have all these fairly useless antibiotics late game.

I mean today on a t6 I did get infected, but that's because I fell off a terrace (it was really narrow, m'ok) to the street, and into a pack of zombie dogs lol (fear not, I ended their suffering) and then because of course I don't carry antibiotics, and I mean you never find anything when you actually need it (I'm lucky I scrounged duct tape for a splint for the broken arm). I did find a honey on the 8th floor, but it wasn't enough by then. So when I got home I had to use some. Leaving me with only...10 stacks...in 1 of my 3 bases...so that was my exciting day. I know, cool story bro, right?

No, but I have already lost several dew collectors either due to friendly fire from my turrets or spit from cops or radioactive vultures.

By the way, an underground dew collector farm is possible. You only need to have 5 blocks free on top of the dew collectors. Or if you want it a little more realistic you can create vents that lead to the surface. The vents must be above the center of each dew collector.

AP ammo in your junk turrets are great when you are out and about but will bring down the real estate value around your home.

That and stray fire from shotguns and 44 mag passing through everything can make a mess too.

I keep them just at the edge of my LCB property line and they generally don't take much damage. If you've got them around your horde base, you can always pick them up for horde night and put them back in the morning too.

Underground is a good solution, or on the roof/upper levels if you've got the room.  You can put security grates over them too.

As someone who has played every Elder Scrolls game from Arena on, I can say I was super excited to see Starfield until I realized space wasn't space at all, you can't "fly" to planets and "land." The flying/space gameplay  was a massive let down. They took the very BEST part of space games and nerfed the hell out of the exploration aspects. hard pass until it's $20 on Steam.

As someone who has also played every Elder Scrolls game from Arena on, and still considers Daggerfall to be 1 of the all time greats, I can say I had zero enthusiasm about Starfield and am glad I didn't buy into the hype (or buy the overpriced game).

Bethesda "2 patches and we're off to sell DLC, we don't care if the community patch fixes a list of issues a mile long" Softworks has really cemented themselves as a bunch of @%$#ups, and for all the hate MS gets, MS games does tend to do a good job but I don't even know if they can turn them around (MS now owns them).

I don't think many people are gonna get that joke, but I remember and Salute you.

Wait until TFP bring back that zombies attack farm plots... Do zombies attack dew collectors?

I can recall "back in the day" setting up 10 campfires on the sides of an abandoned building to call zombies to kill. We would set them all up, load them with wood and perch on a different building and pick them off for xp. Can't recall what version that was, but the ferals could teleport (i don't think literally, but frack they were fast.)

No, they don't attack the dew collectors. I don't know if that was an oversight or by design, but as of right now they are safe outside on the ground.

I have a question. I played the A21 a few times and as the "base b!tch" I find that I am at a disadvantage on skilling up and finding magazines since I am not the one looting things. Of course my other players can bring me mags for the skills I need if they find them, but I don't get any bonus for finding mags since I am not the one looking for them. Obviously I do go out and loot a little, but in a typical game, my other 2 players would have looted everything close by the base. Any thoughts other than "get out and loot" since my toon tends to be a bit agoraphobic.  Looking forward to the new characters customization in A22

Yeah, this is really not a change conducive to the base @%$# or even multiplayer in general.

Maybe try having them drop markers at clusters of newstands & mailboxes in the urban areas and leaving them for you to just motorcycle out and loot to give you a better chance of getting some mags you need.

  8. The big issue for us as consumers is that reinstalls don't make the company any money.

They only make money off the purchase.

So now if they are going to be charged for the reinstallation, they are either going to find a way to pass those costs along to us or just make it more difficult for us to reinstall (like not maintaining free easy downloads).

Also since the GOG installer is self-contained and supposedly free of DRM (one of their main marketing points) I just don't see how they are going to start tracking that without doing some dirty stuff.

I was going to say i didn't know of any ners to infections.  I mean just play a little less aggressive, and heal when you are injured.  That basically removes any chances for injuries and infections.

Play more aggressive. Make them dead before they can hurt you.

    Remember Mal's words:

"Well, I ain't them. And don't you ever stand for that sort of thing. Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back."

I realize this. It's $0.20 cents from what I read. You'd have to install the game 100x before it would cost as much as 7D2D did.

No one installs a game that many times. I might install a game 3 or 4 times max. That's a whopping $0.80

Why is this a huge problem?

Legacy games won't be charged, you'd have to use an updated version of unity for this to take effect. This isn't backward compatible. If it wasn't already written into the game engine when the game was compiled, this isn't an issue.

So personally I don't care. No I really don't. When we're talking about money, I only care about my own. The devs finances are not my business, neither are their transactions with others (Unity). I am a game purchaser not a shareholder. A lot of you fanbois act like you are economics majors or something.

No, my issue is how are they tracking my installs? According to the response above, they aren't, they are making it up and handing their customer a bill, which sounds unethical, illegal and immoral, but still not my problem.

I am already getting a bit fed up with Steam invading my privacy (We won't talk about @%$#ing Epic). I miss some of the conveniences and the workshop and all but I'm seriously considering all my future game purchases being through GOG as it is.

  11. Yeah, infection has been made pretty irrelevant.

By the time I can make antibiotics I've already looted stacks of them, not to mention herbals and honey.

Now granted, if I am not carrying any, then it's like good luck finding them and I have to wait until I get home, but then there comes a point where you rarely get hit, let alone infected.

Not to mention I'm not even sure what the penalties are anymore, and then dying isn't such a big deal if you need to, but I don't feel that making infection and other injuries persist is fair, I mean you died, you should get a fresh start. If the RNG doesn't cut you a break then you could be stuck in a death loop and that is not any fun for anybody.

  12. Yeah, the whole thing sounds insane, but Meganoth does have a good theory about the negotiations.

Happens all the time. I'm negotiating right now on a job for a company known for lowballing so I asked for way more money than what I am willing to accept so they have room to negotiate but I still get what I want and everyone feels like they "won" something.

I still think someone over at Unity needs to put down the crackpipe, they must have been hanging out with Netflix execs and said "hey, hold my beer"

Yeh, you can, I can't remember which was it, but you can either right click them in, or drag and drop, but not both. I'm thinking drag & drop works, but ... :)

I stopped using the healing mod when I saw it try to heal thru the unhealable portion of the health bar; was a while ago, dunno if the AI has improved, but haven't seen the need for it; I'm well aware of my HP all the time anyway.

Oh, I thought you were the one that told me about it, maybe it was Riamus....my short-term memory is going.

Drag and drop, you can't r-click them.

Somehow I am an anomaly, because prior to A21 the drone worked flawlessly for me. Even still I thought the medic was doing a good job. I also just gave it a stack of med kits and made sure to keep them in the top left slot.

Yep -- I took that respec potion, perked out of healing. Me and my buddy did a big prison poi and I didn't eat a thing all the way through - plenty of shooting, plenty of melee, had a great time. I'm still fully perked into iron gut, though, so that helped. By comparison, my buddy who is still perked into healing by only two xp points ate twice. I still don't think the skill really spells it out that your body will literally starve you to death healing you. I can't think of that as being a positive skill to ever have.

On the other hand, my little demonic robot still considers health items to be machine gun ammo. Zombie so much as gives me a stern look and BAM -- 225 points of healing jabbed into my back. I swear I took the first aid kits out and just loaded it up with bandages, but the cheeky little thing must have found a cache somewhere. Sheesh. It gets trapped on a block somewhere but the moment I find a First Aid Kit it's suddenly hovering in front of me like a dog looking for a treat.

Yeah, it needs to be toned down a bit, it is like straight up ripoff from Minecraft healing by using all your food.

That is weird with the drone, and you aren't the first person to complain about this. I'm pretty sure it isn't supposed to trigger until you are under half health. Mine always seemed to work as expected, but then I ditched it recently when I found out you can shove 4 storage modules in. I also don't get hit a lot but I travel with 2x QL6 junk turrets.

As for heat, I don't get why people care so much what does or doesn't generate heat. There is no meter for it that we are supposed to track or manage. Frankly, I never worry about it at all. If I get screamers I kill them and any resulting horde and continue with life. If it gets too bad then I start separating workstations to separate locations to reduce the centralized source that is generating the heat. I usually stop at five dew collectors and have plenty of water and no discernable increase in screamer activity from that. You mentioned not wanting to hear anyone try to explain how the feature might be reasonable so I'll forbear from doing so but I definitely can understand why a large dew collector farm would add to the amount of noticeable activity and attract zombies....

I think the majority of people don't understand the concept of "heat" and instead take it as the device generates literal heat; which as it started with campfires, torches, the lab, etc. is somewhat understandable I guess. So they are angry and confused why a water collector would generate heat.

It doesn't seem like heat generates while the chunks aren't active, so loading up everything in the morning and heading out while it burns away is a good way to cut down on screamers.

  16. You get the new trade route mission when you complete a tier.

You also get a 2nd round of rewards (so reward for the last quest, and then the bonus reward for finishing the tier).

You won't get the next tier missions until the next day though. Also that only counts for that trader (although all instances, so every trader Bob on the map if it was for trader Bob) and so the new trader you go see will only give you tier 1 if it is a different trader.

I take healing factor all the time.  Not for the healing over time (which is whatever, I always have tons of food available) but for the reduced duration on injuries.  Combine it with the bonus from physician, and most treated injuries are gone within a couple minutes.

Yeah, it is good late game when food is no issue (or really any goods or materials) but I wouldn't recommend it early game.

Of course you are late game so...

I don't think that's the issue here. I've read this thing 6+ times and still have no idea what you're talking about or what you want, much less what it has to do with the title. What's the LOS issue? Are you sure you're not using partial blocks that have visibility to you? As for a damage slider, there is an overall setting that you can control. It does all the zombie block damage, not just the smaller ones though. Other than that, I've got nothing due to not understanding.

  19. This is continuing to be obnoxious. I would really like it to stop. It hasn't crashed the game lately, but it pops up the console and has nearly gotten me killed several times as I lose control of the game.

BFT2020 kind of misunderstood my point too and also acted somewhat offended (well might be because the topic of empty jars is really polarizing

I had thought BFT's original point was misunderstood and that was that there were already at least 4 threads on this topic and why did we need another.

Considering this @%$#ing convo won't die I guess we did.

You're right, who thought empty jars would be so polarizing. Especially when I can think of a lot more things that bug me more that need fixing.

I mean I hated it at first as much as anyone. I remember reading it in the change notes and thinking "what a pointless and stupid change" and then starting to play and being a bit lost (as usual because, face it, they just about re-invent the game every alpha...so besides the water there is a lot going on to relearn).

Then I adjusted and adapted and now I couldn't give a @%$# less. It just honestly doesn't bother me and it is what it is and I just do what I need to do. Yeah, I hate making 200+ rolls of duct tape so I can get a pair of t6 junk turrets, drone and maybe a sidearm. Not enough to be bothered to mod the recipe costs (which would be trivial really) because once I've done that in a given game, I am not going to do it again.

I select T6 quest rewards based on how many dukes they are worth since I am going to sell them all back anyway. There just comes a point where it isn't worth worrying about.

I also don't feel the need for huge dew collector farms and I don't understand the outcry about screamers. I feel like I don't get enough screamers for what I run these days, I mean I've got 2 fires, 2 forges, 2 mixers, chem, & workbench going frequently. The heat from a handful of dew collectors is pretty irrelevant.

All that being said, I do think they need to find some way to let us use the bucket in recipes and also snow. I have all this useless snow because one can only make so many smoothies, and I can't even remake it into terrain to fill the constant holes being shot into it around my base.

By all means, everyone continue. I'm not looking to shut down anyone's opinion, just presenting mine.
