I want to see this miracle cpu multicore mod

if the mod was made public already i wouldn't hesitate to mention the maker but most multiplayer server owners 100% know who he is..... when he releases it for everyone to have, i sure hope the pimps give this coder the credit he deserves. But yeah it exists right now.

I've been around and I have no idea of whom you're talking about. Why not name the mod author and post a link? Maybe @faatal would like to see what they did and whether it can be utilized? Why keep it a secret? That's not good news....that's just saying there is a secret.

no need to worry his mod is going public soon everyone that doesnt know will know soon enough.

  3. A20 almost ruined the multiplayer scene by causing high populations servers not to be able to run high populations on....... but i have great news now for everyone now! A coder has optimized the game to use multiple cores which allows servers now to have a player count way more than ever before. Let me tell you people ive been an admin for 7d2d over 22000 hours in game and been around alot of years supporting this game but never have i ever seen a mod more important that what this coder has done.  I sure hope some day the pimps recognize this guy and give him the credit he needs. Anyone who has been around knows who im talking about but with all that being said, i give my consent for a21 to be released because now i know high population mutlitplayer well be possible with the works and effort this coder hasimage.png.17f0a8802fa73331d4f1e8ed1b916924.png done. The current seed a20 our server is on maxed at 52 players and could have easily had alot more.

I've met quite a few people over the years who reveal themselves to not have the patience, understanding, and temperament to enjoy playing a game that is indev. Maybe that's you. If this game ends up taking 10 years or 12 years to finish it doesn't matter. The full game hasn't been released yet and you sound to me to clearly be a "full release game" kind of person.

lol i had to laugh at this one for sure. "full release kind of person" doesn't wait 20000+hours for a game to complete. If you really want to know how i feel about it im an old man and i don't have time to wait another x many years odds are ill be dead by than.

How does that change my response?

Thats the thing your not getting. You can change your response by merely just stating "his mod is the only fix known to fix some issues" since you already stated "Regardless, the idea that anyone's current mod for Alpha 20 bugs represents a permanent fix since TFP isn't planning on doing anything themselves is ridiculous. " <--Thats the whole point! its been 7years and they still havent fixed it. What is the community supposed to do wait another 7 years? Ya thats why tfp have lost trust by so many in the community.

  6. 1 hour ago, Roland said:

Nobody from TFP has yet claimed that they are finished

Did you not read what he was saying? #zipcore "I would be more interested if TFP would implement the fixes of my mods which solve major issues in this game"

Most anybody who has seen his fixs knows exactly how huge they are- especially those veteran players like myself who been around X amount of years. I have witnessed many other coders and modders try to fix what he has been able to do but failed. The way this guy can fix bugs TFP would be foolish to not listen to what he has to say.

A20 was a nice update for players and the worst for server owners in a very long time (ever?).

I've seen many servers shutdown during A20. This must STOP!

Here are the top most annoying things the modding community can't fix server-side using mods:

    • The new voice system kills interaction with other players, roleplay and PvP servers suffer from this most, but normal PvE servers too. Who needs to mute players when you can't hear them anyways?!? Please let players decide which voice channel they like to use. Party only was a really bad idea.
    • The new server browser doesn't let you ignore the region filter, many players fail to find the servers they are looking for. Region filter should be optional for players.
    • Chunkreset causes corrupted regions, thats very very frustating! You knew about this bug before A20 was stable, why is that not fixed yet?!?
    • Flying trees which only some players can see are very frustating for some players when they destroy their base over and over again.

It's ok to have bugs in a game even when it's in alpha for so long (world record?),

but your community can't fix them all for you and you are currently destroying the part of your community which loves to play on public servers!

Am I asking for too much here?

As an admin of 7d2d for many years i would like to say without the coders and modders who have single handed kept this game a float... 7d2d would have folded years ago! Now here we are today and its come to the point modders and coders can't even fix the current issues destroying the game. This is a huge factor why many servers have shut down and for those servers that are left.. they are hanging on by a string.

What specific change rubbed you the wrong way and why?  The reasoning behind the upcoming crafting change was fully shared by Roland.  Was there something you disagreeded with it inparticular?

I personally couldn't be more happier! Finally! after 20000+ hours in this game they are finally adding PVP content! OMG this has the potential to be the best alpha yet. I could go in to many reasons why i feel like that but no need to. I will tell you i can understand why pve players would get upset about the changes coming but for who ever plays PVP this is not just good news its great news!

Completely voluntary. You don't have to do a single one. Its totally possible to do one quest a day and explore a ton of POI's of your choosing and win the game. Doing quest after quest after quest maniacally striving to grind up to the highest tier as quickly as possible is not even close to necessary for survival and success. It really is interesting to me that the most LBD-like feature in the game today is the quest system and people get obsessive about unnaturally power leveling up the quest chain just as they did up the skill chain with LBD. Should TFP put a daily quest limiter in the game to save people from themselves and burning out on questing or should they keep it as a choice: quest obsessively if you want or once or twice daily/weekly if you want?  Part of me wants them to keep it a free choice but part of me is tired of people posting that questing ruins the game and act like they're forced to quest constantly or they might lose somehow. Maybe some forced restriction on questing would help those folks not overdo questing.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Anyone who plays multiplayer knows doing Quests is mandatory to stay competitive. The party share and xp players get from doing quests is OP and gives a huge advantage compared to those who "completely voluntary choose not to do them." Power level by party is a main stay in the multiplayer game and definately needs to be addressed.  Example a party of 5 sharing quests, clearing quests, turning in quests for xp and rewards will advance 10x faster or more than someone not doing quest. It really does create a huge advantage for those in a party vs those who are solo.

I dont think its them wanting to *kill* multiplayer, they just have different priorities and large population was never something they have beholden themselves to, unfortunately. And despite all the big servers dying off because of it, the game remains at 15k+ currently playing on steam, so theres no alarms going off for them anytime soon.

dont kid yourself. Guaranteed those 35000 players from 5 months ago most of them where multiserver players! I mean anyone with common sense would tell you- losing half of your population base is not goo1300010678_Screenshot2022-05-22134901.png.e4ac939916987e41e1fd3934dfe5e983.pngd. "maybe we should look into why?"

Not long ago, even as recent as 19.2, average servers could host up to 50 players with little issue. 19.3 came, and knocked that down to about 35. 20.4 came, and for whatever reason, it feels like anything above 16 is muddy waters

You are definately right about that. A19 and prior we could get 40+ players on a server- Now in a20 we are lucky to get 25 on without the server crashing. Has anyone figured out why this is? I personally think its just another way of them wanting to kill multiplayer.

  12. Its no secret alloc mod has issues ... big time issues. When a20 came out that was the first thing i noticed was bugs coming from alloc mod. I personally have wondered why alloc hasn't updated his mod? I believe it has alot to do with alot of the network problems people are having on servers. You guys keep talking about TFP hiring someone for netcode imo they should start with asking alloc to fixed his mod that in itself would solve alot of issues.

Speaking of server list. I would really like it if they added a filter for ping. Would eliminate a lot of those chinese servers with pings in the very high hundreds and I wouldn't mind just finding some servers that I would have a lower ping on.

like a friend said to me the other day

Props to them for sticking to their vision and resisting the lure of big easy money. We call that "not selling out".

I call that a "lie" in fact their whole company i is based off a "pimp" image. A matter of fact anytime someone buys 7d2d you might as well say they are turning a trick for the pimps. No where in time has a pimp not chased money a pimp is 100% about getting money one way or another. Keep telling the storys and do what you do but i well say thank your for wishing me best of luck.

Not sure how I’m PvP this would hurt things though.

The pimps have had many years. Had they spent just a little effort on pvp it would be a very viable game option today. Overall, they blew the pvp opportunity this game had to offer and honestly dont think anything they can do now will change that. They have left to bad of a bitter taste in the mouths of the pvp community over the years by putting everything about pvp on the back burner, not addressing nor understanding the opportunity they had for this game on the pvp side. Later this year a new game will come out called The Day Before. w/e pvp players are left i'm sure will be playing that instead when it releases. Maybe than the pimps will realize what opportunities they had and wasted by not focusing on pvp just a little bit more. "They have not just failed the pvp multiplayer aspect of the game i could also make and argument they should just remove it all together and drop their act about pvp since they don't support anyway."

Keep in mind that reputation was never listed as a goal or stretch goal in the original kickstarter but has been talked about by Madmole several times in the past. That means it could change or even be cut.

Today is not the same as X years ago. When 7d2d came out it was a unique concept with many great ideas. I think it is fair to say in modern times you can't compare those ideas from the past to what it is today since it has been many years from the start of 7d2d. Things change and my recommendation would be for them to get up to speed on the new trends that players are looking for.

I'll let you into a secret.  Every AI you have played against has had its abilities crippled to make you feel better.  Players have an easier time losing to another player than an unfettered AI.  Some of the main advantages are listed below, allowing the AI to fully use any of these will instantly lead to screams of "unfair" and "implayable" by the players.

Perfect aim : An AI can work out exactly where to aim with a simple matrix rotation, in unity that even has a little helper-function.  Depending on the system the programmer may have to randomize the aiming point a little before the shot to give the player a chance.

Perfect radar : The AI does not perceive the game world as you do, it knows where everything is and its weaknesses.  If you think wall-hacks are cheating please be aware that to the AI the walls simply don't exist.

Perfect pathfinding : It takes time for a player to memorize the routes on a map, for the AI all routes are known and the default is to choose the shortest route regardless of how obvious it is or whether it can even be seen from where they are.

There are more but these should give an example of why we cripple AI for the players, programmers are only human and we like to win every now and again as well.

Hey man thanks for your explanation on this and thanks for providing a different  perspective obout AIs.  Just curious though- what you would rather see and play on in 7d2d: a server full of AIs or a server full of real people? I know what my answer is REAL PEOPLE!

Indeed. PvP is nothing like bandits. If I go into a POI with 10 bandits waiting for me, I expect to win. If I enter a POI with 10 players in it, I expect to die.

I want to be the hero of the world and overcome a variety of obstacles. Players need to be evenly matched to be fair, so you will not be overcoming many of them unless you are a pro and most of us are not.

i would say you got that backwards... Bandits are nothing like real life PvP players. A bandit will never have the ability to challenge the offense and defense that it takes to raid and defend a base. Competition in players is something a bandit would never supply. Thinking about the strategy how to attack a base and thinking about the strategy how to defend it is a factor bandits would never have. Basically a bandit would just be another zombie to kill on pvp servers.

Don't want new things to be added or experience (for good or bad) the changes that come? Wait for the final release.

Unfortunately, im not a young man like you i don't have another 5+ years to wait for final release. However my recommendation was never about time although you decided to make it about time. My recommendation was to stop adding new stuff and focus on what is already here but once again you only seem to hear what you want to while disreguarding the obvious.

  20. ya ya ya, i totally understand you want to be completely comfortable in your own little world not having to worry about the big bad pvp player paying you a visit and collecting taxs. The thing i would like to remind you of is that for years new content keeps getting added which brings more bugs and issues. You want bandits when "real life bandits" already exists and this is what gets frustrating. Look no further than the drone. They added that and how many issues has that caused? My recommendation once again would be to stop focusing on adding stuff untill everything that is already here is fixed.
