Hi, all. Sorry if this has been talked about a hundred times - I searched, but didn't turn it up. Instead of renting a third party server, I'd like to set up a server on an old machine I've got lying around, then move the multiplayer game I've been playing with a friend to it so that either of us can join whenever we want. I've looked over the info on how to set up a dedicated server, most of which I can kinda follow, but is there anything else I need to know in order to do what I'm planning? Thanks!

Interesting idea. I’ll mention it, but I doubt he’ll go for it. I’m surprised there’s no consensus on which services to use or avoid… surely there must be.

Hello, all. I’m sure there must be threads about this somewhere, but my searches aren’t finding them. Does anyone have a recommendation for which service to rent server space from? And, as this sort of thing is entirely outside my range of experience, maybe a link to a detailed explanation of how to get it running? A friend and I have been playing with his machine acting as host, and we want to migrate that file so we can both access it at any time. Thanks!

Does the game crash shortly thereafter, by any chance? That may be the dreaded Ray Fail Positioning Error.

Just for clarification - I’m pretty sure this was a typo, but did it mean “delete 3 files?”

Oh, that’s good to know! I’ll try it. Validated them through Steam, you mean? I did it once, but to no avail.

Ah. I am what you’d call a complete noob in matters such as this. Could you possibly tell me how? I know our IDs, of course, but I don’t want to make a mistake, here…

Many thanks, I appreciate it. I'm actually the host, with one other player on the server. Am I at risk of accidentally deleting his player as well? I'd like him to be able to carry on without starting from scratch. EDIT: It looks like there are six files in the Player folder: two MAP, two TTP, and two BAK.

I do, yeah; I’m the host. Upon investigation, no console commands are working. I think the game is so busy trying to reposition me that it can’t do anything else.

Hmm... I deleted my character profile, created a new guy, continued the game... and my old character still exists, falling through the sky like before. I assume that means I need to delete him more thoroughly? Could you possibly tell me how?

Were you ever able to solve it, or did you have to start over? It's happening to me at the moment.

I've been searching the forum and this seems to be an error lots of people are having. I see it's in the Known Issues. The command console is showing "origin player ray fail" and "origin reposition" over and over. I can't find any posts about a solution being discovered... Am I going to have to start from scratch? I've tried to open up debug mode and use "kill me," but after pressing F1, typing "dm" does nothing. Could someone please help me, even if it's just telling me if there's no way to fix it? I've been working on it for a very long time and I'm going slightly insane.

Thank you so much! Oh, no, I’m not talking about a Black person, this is a woman with skin like obsidian. Like the color picker was dragged all the way to the lower left-hand corner. I suspect that’s the case with all the attributes, that somehow this bug creates an avatar with all attributes set to one extreme of their scale. So, turning off persistent profiles will allow me to choose an avatar on my machine mid-game?

I’m afraid this may have been discussed a million times… I searched, though, and couldn’t find it! Please forgive me if this is redundant. Is there a reliable way to move the character I use when I play alone into a multiplayer game hosted by a friend? I ask because every time I try to join his server I end up as a random woman with pitch-black skin and glowing white eyes. She’s constantly being mistaken for a zombie. I’d really like to import my non-dark-elf guy!
