    Summary: Game freezes for 30 sec and then crashes to desktop.

    Bug Description:

    It happens multiple times in different situations. It could happen after 5 minutes, 20 minutes or 1 hour. Always the same outcome. Game crashes.

    Most of the time, it seems to happen, when a Zombie or dog hits a block right in front of me. But it's not a 100% perfect description. I cannot present steps to reproduce everytime.

    Chiming in because it's happening to me too, no consistent way to repro, but once it crashes during a quest at a POI once, that quest will crash with semi-consistent timing after restarting the quest.

     

    Does NOT happen if I remove these options from boot.config

    gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
    gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1

    Also happens on current A20 stable if I add these options in there.

     

    Logs say that the cause of the crash is:

    d3d11.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
      in module d3d11.dll at 0033:15a68bf9.

    Running from an M.2 SSD.

    I cannot turn Voicemeeter off for testing this, so that could be something?

     

    Things I've tried:

    Update Graphics Driver from version 477.12 to 511.23.

    Memtest RAM with no failures from 3 full tests.

    Ran the game as Administrator

    Ran the game in compatibility Mode

    Removed OC from CPU (default 3.5gHz and OC at 4.0gHz)

    Disabled RivaTuner Overlay

    Lowered some graphics settings

    Removed all generated RWG's, current saves and made new ones.

    Add more pagefile (total 20Gb)

    Is this related to mono-2.0-bdwgc.dll  error I been seeing in my crash reports (sorry at work so I can't check as they block pastebin)?  I am working on reproducing / trying out different things before I make a bug report and saw this so wanting to verify prior to going further if it is already known.

    @SwineDK If you edit your boot.config file in your game directory (.../7 Days to Die/7DaysToDie_Data) to remove the following lines, do the crashes persist?

     

    gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
    gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1

    @TSBX

    I tried to reproduce the error yesterday, but it didn't occur at all. I will try again tonight (in about 12 hours from writing),

    I did change some settings though. I changed Terrain Quality from High to Ultra, Grass Distance from Medium to High and Object Quality from from High to Ultra.

     

    This was rather due to a different annoyance with objects appearing and disappearing quite close (about 10-15m in front of the character) and this seemed to fix it with very little change to FPS.

    But I can try and set the settings back to previous settings if I can't reproduce the crashing.

    I was able to reproduce it 100% by collapsing the tower in utility_celltower_01. Open the Prefab Editor, Click the Playtest button, Grab the admin digger from the pink box and let her rip. Give it a go and let me know please.

    For me the answer is yes, although not quite at 100%.

    With video settings on Low or Lowest I could not get it to crash with 2 tries each, but on all other ones it did with varying timing, sometimes I had to completely level the place, sometimes it was instant.

     

    Also tried running windowed 1080p with no significant change in result.

     

    And cranking the settings up to Ultra and removing the lines from config does not crash, though the game does run noticeably worse than with them enabled.

    I am unable to reproduce it at utility_celltower_01. I don't know if I am just not trying enough. But I've tried 5 times..
    I've tried changing some of my quality settings (terrain, grass and object quality), but haven't been able to reproduce the bug all evening, neither in a game, where the crashes occured all the time previously or in the editor.

    so just for the hell of it i tried to collapse this building about 15-20 times even from underground and with a ton of z's around and never had any freeze's, a slight frame drop maybe. im using linux and tried it with both opengl and vulkan. maybe just a windows issue, game has been running alot better for me since a20.1 A20.1_2022-01-25_23-51-07.thumb.jpg.2891023becd9030cae87abf734059f76.jpg
