The only time you really have to worry about your vehicle being damaged when sitting around is if it is too close to your horde base. I do build a garage because I like to. And it uses the same materials that my base does. So, if my base is concrete, so it's my garage. If it is steel, so it's my garage. But it isn't required. It's also drive-through, unpathable by zeds, next to my lootboxes, which are next to my workstations ... soo... that's more of a drive-thru base, but you could call it a garage ..
