Weird lag issue with controller PC

I often have weird lag problem when I first start up the game. Has anyone experienced this same issue and found a fix or reliable workaround?

Specs:

Hubby and I are playing co-op on PC with the A20 Gamepass version of the game. 

We're both in the same room, he's hosting, and I jump in via an Xbox social invite. 

I'm on a Lenovo Legion using an XBox controller connected via Bluetooth (or whatever MS is calling their proprietary wireless connection), with a Chatpad attached. 

 

When I first start the game, there's almost always a response delay with the controller that is severe enough to prohibit play. The action shortcuts showing on the screen are often keyboard shortcuts instead of controller shortcuts, but not always, and they toggle back and forth between controller and keyboard shortcuts when I use the controller. When I remove the chatpad, it's not as bad, but it's not gone. Sometimes I can turn my controller off and back on while in the game and it clears up. If that doesn't work, rebooting my laptop usually works, but sometimes I have to reboot more than once. 

 

Anyone familiar with this issue? Any idea where I should start with the troubleshooting?

Using Bluetooth, you will likely have a delay. Another thing to try is selecting "Use native input" from the launcher options.
