  1. The problem still occurs sometimes.
I'm playing on this laptop since alpha 16 and i did not have the problem prior to a20.

If the problem does not occur, which is most of the time, i can play the game fine with 2 gb vram.

I just think it is odd, because the mainmenu surely doesn't need 2 gb vram :)

Since i won't install any experimental versions, if have to wait a bit longer until the stable version gets released.

Thank you.  That player log helped to pinpoint and solve the issue.  If your friend is willing to test out a fixed version of the 7dlauncher.exe,  please let me know.

uhm... she said it works again, after she cooperated with alloc... Not sure if she already got a new launcher version from him!?

Alloc was communicating directly with her via discord, so me being the middleman is probably not being neccessary anymore :)

  3. Ok, we will also check if the file

    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\The Fun Pimps\7 Days To Die\Player.log

will be created and supply it, if it is not missing.

I will also try to have her create a shortcut to the 7days exe with the logfile parameter. Maybe we can get the game to create one this way.

Just to confirm, that mod developer did create a solid way to move his mod created content into the user data folder, right?

Yes, the dev @Obsessive Compulsive did. After i moved all mods on our server into the new user data folder AND deleted the old, empty Mods folder, the double loading entries in the servers outputlog dissapeared and everything works fine for me.

  5. Hello,

ok, she put -logfile "%AppData%\7DaysToDie\logs\output_log_client.txt" into the launchers Additional parameters field and clicked Run & Save as default and the same error (invalid filename) appeared.

She also created the logs folder in %AppData%\7DaysToDie\ before that, but that didn't help :)

    So, no progress here...

Thank you for all your work on this.

I have found that using the file name 'Vicky's PC' failed in launching the game for me as well.

I need to point out, that i think you tested with a wrong character in the username. The character between the y and the s

    The character is not

    '

    The character is

    ´

So since you tested with the wrong character, i would assume that the space is the problem, since a space is usually used to divide arguments.
And if this assumption is correct, q123's solution to enclose the path with quotes, would be the best one to get the log created in the correct folder.

Thanks to you two for the feedback. I'll see if i can get her to do the neccessary steps to create a logfile.

    Well, the mystery continues.

After a long and painful process to guide the player to the launcher.log, we even had to resort to voicechat and screensharing, as she could not find it and i thought she was doing something wrong.

    1. We found out, that the player indeed does NOT have a "logs" folder in %APPDATA%\7DaysToDie\
    2. When she tries to open the savegame folder via the 7dLauncher.exe, nothing happens when she clicks the button. All the other buttons do work tho.
    3. I also have to make a correction for one of my previous comments. The character ü i was refering to being in her Windows username, is only in her display name, not in her username (profile). The username (the one which is part of the path) is: Vicky´s PC
And i am wondering if the character ´ or the space in her username causes some issues?
    4. The output_log, we can't supply either, since the log folder is completely missing.

Unfortunately that's about all infos i can add for the moment.

I will write a ticket for this.  Renaming windows username is probably not a good idea.

Is it possible to ask your friend for a launcher log (%APPDATA%\7DaysToDie\logs\launcher.log)?   I'd like to include it in my ticket.

Well, i don't know if changing the windows username will also change the profile name in the path, as i never renamed my account, so it might not even work. And if this issue gets fixed in the future, she surely can live with the workaround, to start the exe directly from the 7 Days Folder :)

I assume, she would have to start 7 Days from Steam, to make the error appear and then supply the launcher.log!?
I will ask her for that :)

  9. Hi,

i just want to report back, that the player on my server indeed has a "ü" character in her Windows username, as she told me today.

She is trying to figure out, how to rename her account and if she succeeds and the error is gone, i report back, although it already seems pretty clear what the problem was :)

Since the username is also included in the path, I assume that the game has recently had a problem with letters like 'ä' 'ö' 'ü' and maybe others.

@Thunderbolt-GER maybe this will help your teammate too?

    Hi,

that is an interesting find. I will ask her, what her Windows 11 username is.

Thanks for sharing your discovery :)

I will report back, if she also has "special characters" in her username or not.

  11. Hello,

i just want to add, that a player on our dedicated server has the exact same problem.

Trying to start the game via Steam results in the above mentioned popup stating "invalid filename".

She can only run the game through the 7DaysToDie exe in the game folder.

It started with the version before A20.5 B2 Stable, which only fixed the EAC error that was mentioned in the patchnotes.

    1. She is also running Windows 11
    2. She was always on the stable branch
    3. She cleaned game data with the launcher
    4. She verified the file integrity twice through Steam

Here are some players, which seem to have the same issue:

  12. Hi,

i also experience the same problem and it happened in A19 already.

The info i can add is: If you can't turn the forge off, put some fuel (eg wood) in the 2nd or 3d fuel slot. Then you can turn the forge off and remove the fuel from all slots.

I think everytime, or most of the time, this happened, when i smelted something in the forge (eg. 6000 stone to fill the max amount of 30000 in the forge) and the fuel was burning longer then the smelting needed.

It is also possible, that i maybe left the chunk of my base, as i went looting or questing in the meantime.

I usually put 16 woodlogs in fuelslot #1, and 3000 stone in each of the 2 smelting slots.

That's all i can add, maybe something can be helpful for investigating.

Oh, and since i only play on MP Servers, i don't know if it would happen in a SP game too.
