In the past I've made comments about how I've saved nearly every version that has been on Steam.
Many have expressed an interest in also being able to build such a collection but since those versions were in the past it was believed to not be possible.
Recently I was shown this thread (related to another game):
Some additional information on the Steam Console can be found at (including downloading apps/games and DLC): Steam Community Guide on Steam Console
The summary of that thread is that as long as you own a game and the game's depots are all still available, it is possible to find the correct information and download any version of the game you want that has been released on Steam.
So I've taken that information and compiled a list of the details necessary to download almost every past version of 7 Days To Die released to Steam. I've done this only for public branch releases (not experimental versions).
Data Sources Used:
https://steamdb.info/app/251570/depots/
https://steamdb.info/app/251570/history/
I did NOT use the manifests page under the depots pages and instead used the history as it was more accurate & had a longer retention (although what a pain loading & scrolling, the page was 8MB fully loaded).
Depot ID Values Available? Description 251571 YES Windows 32 Bit (NOTE: this includes both 32bit & 64bit, just determines starting install mode) 251573 NO ??? History says this was: Mac (NOTE: attempts to download from this depot respond 'missing license' due to the depot having been disabled. As such MAC Alpha 5 to Alpha 6.4 cannot be downloaded) 251574 NO ??? History says this was: Windows (NOTE: attempts to download from this depot respond 'missing license' due to the depot having been disabled. As such Windows Alpha 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4 cannot be downloaded) 251575 NO ??? History says this was: Mac (NOTE: (NOTE: attempts to download from this depot respond 'missing license' due to the depot having been disabled. As such MAC Alpha 5 to Alpha 6.4 cannot be downloaded) 251576 YES Windows 64 Bit (NOTE: this includes both 32bit & 64bit, just determines starting install mode) 251577 YES Mac 251578 YES Linux Universal Here are Release dates, version info (can be matched to the Version History/Release Notes thread), and then the manifests that were available for that version.
To download a particular version all that is necessary is the DepotID (beginning of the line) and the ManifestID (19 digit value at the end of the line).
Example to download Linux Alpha 8.7 from 2014-07-09 - the DepotID would be 251578 and the ManifestID would be 7891736396000419297
The formatted command would be: download_depot 251570 251578 7891736396000419297
Since I was missing the original Windows Alpha 5 release from December 13, 2013 I decided to test using that version.
So I open the Steam Console in the Steam Client: steam://nav/console Linked: steam://nav/console
Then I paste in the line:
download_depot 251570 251571 8674858241122065491
The Steam client will show no progress, but if you check your downloads tab you will see the network activity.
Once the download completes you'll see a line like below telling you where it placed the files.
Depot download complete : "G:\Games (Steam)\steamapps\content\app_251570\depot_251571" (339 files, manifest 8674858241122065491)
After which I renamed the folder 'depot_251571' to 'Alpha 5.0' and moved it to be with the rest of my collection, cleared all registry and save entries, then ran the app from the folder to test. Working Alpha 5.0, delivered from Steam in 2019.
That is it.

Wow... Thanks so much! Can you share how you discovered that, and what tool you used to fix it?
Nevermind... I see you answered this already!
Found the answer on how to see the count in Photoshop (and even see the list of colors {switch from exact to custom [should probably just set the custom list before creating the new file]}):
0 -
FWIW, smoothworldall is confirmed as fixed in an upcoming update:
1 -
Also if you want to know some areas in your image where the colors are off (perhaps to identify which tools didn't keep them correct) here are a few spots. Note this is not a full listing of where incorrectly colored pixels are (quite a number). Just a small sample of some I found.
Snow Biome: #FEFEFE instead of #FFFFFF
113,2320
141,2251
Burnt Forest #B900FE instead of #BA00FF
936,3168
1084,3126
Wasteland #FFA701 instead of #FFA800
3714,5741
4123,5816

Side note for any artistic folks and/or just those smarter about Photoshop/Gimp/Krita than I.
I have not figured out how to get this information in Photoshop/Gimp/Krita easily.
Is there a simple function like this in any of those?:

I read these posts, watched some videos, and read Red Eagle's Background Life post.
I'm just looking to change the biome. I dont want to manually create POI, Water, etc....
I'm good with random gen everything else.
I thought (per some other posts) that I could swap out biomes.png.
I took New Esisi Valley and swapped biomes.png with the one attached. Everything seemed to work ok for a while, then I started to see chunk generation errors (null reference exception).
Any ideas? I tried to make sure the colors were right. No blending or any colors outside the ones listed by Red Eagle.
(cant seem to attach an image)

As I previously mentioned yours had 34 colors. I have reduced this to 5.
Whoops, accidentally uploaded the file before saving the final copy.
Link fixed (sorry):

I downloaded your file and the image has a color count of 34.
Do you have the rough (close enough) game coordinates of where you were at when spawned without terrain?

Hello, i'm new with modlet and xpath, i am trying to do soem changes for my own use and i keep getting erros when load the mod, i am getting "yyExeption irrecoverable syntax error" when i load my world editor with those changes

What im doing wrong?
There are a couple of odd set commands there that I imagine are causing the issue.
Here is one of the properties you are trying to set.
<property name="biomemap0.Range" value="0.2,0.5"/>
After the set command above it will look like this:
<property name="biomemap0.Range" value=",0,5"/>

I am in the process of putting together a tutorial for taking this image and converting it to a heightmap and using that start-to-finish into a world. I expect to finish today or tomorrow. I will also include the modified DLLs necessary and a fully realized world (one town, one trader).
NOTE: The method I am using requires hand painting biomes and roads as well as manual placement of water and POIs.
The world BackgroundLife is available for download. Quick guide and screenshots tomorrow. Took a bit longer than expected due to New Year's .
Just a Proof of Concept world to show the possibility of taking an external image and making a world. I borrowed Perishton and Diersville so the world would have 2 towns.

Thank you, the command was the one thing Im missing here.
The modified dlls smooth even more then the regular files, which is nice, but i guess i will wait for the official patch for this, otherwise i might get different world smoothing and would have to replace all prefabs again. Thank you very much for your effort and have a happy new year!
Thank you for helping, too.
I wish you a happy new year too!
The modified DLL files do not alter the smoothing algorithm. The changes are after the smoothing code. The changes only affects the writing to the dtm.raw. They allow for sizes other than 4096x4096 when writing to the dtm.raw. CodeCompare_Stock_vs_8192.gif
Maybe your world needs less smoothing in which case you might only want a single pass 'swa 1 noregion'.
0 -
Ah okay, perfect...
...so what the dll does is allows you to run the smoothworld command on maps larger than the 4k (I think).
SmoothWorldAll is the cmd.
Correct:
swa 5 noregion
or
smoothworldall 5 noregion
5 being the number of passes.
Remember you'll have to delete your region files from your save or start a new game after.
The noregion flag tells smoothworldall to update the dtm.raw instead of writing region files.

Very nice ! :-)
Do you have also a fixed .dll for the mapsize of 15360x12288 ? Do not wonder, i adjusted my map size to the existing TGA size, so not more world would be rendered then needed. And it worked until the rollback of random gen came.
You can even create 1024x1024 maps if you want to :-D
Or do i have to wait for the official patch ? Or should i go the nasty way and resize my biomes.png and TGAs again to a standard size, hmm.
I'm not surprised you can make map sizes of just about any size.
As for fixed for smoothing of a 15360x12288 , no. The way the smoothing routine itself is written, the math that is used requires a square world. I had a nice image that was 16384x10240 I was thinking of using as a heightmap till I hit that. I ended up squeezing and stretching that one to 13312x13312.
0 -
OK, so is this something that is going to get passed on to them, or I should expect to always use a custom DLL to generate maps with smoothing?
I thought it was implied that I told TFP by the fact that I said "Here are the patched DLLs (till the fixed version comes from TFP)."
Yes, I reported the issue to the right people and it will be fixed. I don't have the details as to when and which build.

FWIW, the demo world is ready to have a trader, town full of POIs, water, and connecting roads added. I don't intend to do a whole maps worth, just a small area to well, demo.
Current state:
heightmap from custom image: done
terrain smoothed: done
custom biome layout: done
initial road demo: done
No mistaking the radzone on this map checkerboard biomes surrounded by road.

Here are the patched DLLs (till the fixed version comes from TFP).
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ofenxy18fm8t9cm/swa_smoothworldall_patched_DLL_files.zip
Basically there is a bug where smoothworldall (swa) when used with noregion flag, assumes the world is 4096x4096.
I've hacked versions of the DLL for alternate world sizes.
A more improved fix would be to first check the world size is square (since the math for smoothing requires that), then set the array, loop, and writing sizes based on the actual world.
Code Compare of Stock and modified for 8192x8192:
This allows the 'swa <numpasses> noregion' command to be used from the console to smooth the world and make it look not so minecrafty. Just pick the DLL for the sized world you've got.
'swa 5 noregion' being a nice value.

I started with a brand new blank splat3.png. Added some roads. Showed up fine. deleted some, no luck. If I restore the starting completely blank splat3.png I return to a world with no roads.
Solved:
ignore the transparency. Created a new all black, no transparency splat3.png. Painted some roads, deleted regions, load game, roads there. Painted black over roads, deleted regions, load game, roads GONE!!!! Yes.

I started with a brand new blank splat3.png. Added some roads. Showed up fine. deleted some, no luck. If I restore the starting completely blank splat3.png I return to a world with no roads.

Don't know the tags for the spawner.class, all the xml I've looked at have the same thing listed so I just left that as it was. Just a quick n dirty one, it'll work but I'm sure it could be improved
Check the Discussion thread about adding prefabs to Random Gen as I have them listed there.

here's a quick one for it:
mind you if it spawns in your map it might look a little funky around the outer borders as its not really designed for random worlds (having cliffsides) but there ya go
edit in:
also don't use the spawner defines included in the zip for random worlds.
Nice work caleb68, very similar to my own version except I limited it to forest and plains biomes (with the same wide range on the spawner size) but I used the ExLarge spawn since there is a lot of area on that prefab, plus it includes the cops.

If the core engine is done (projectile math, drawing, texturing, sound, collision, etc.), then code-wise I don't think that there is that much to do;
That is a big if, and we know the core mechanics are not anywhere near done.
Further, a chunk of core coding around mutli-player will require re-visiting and re-writing to be more secure (short term stop-gap measure would be to have an AC# dll push from servers [this would also allow servers to run mods and push to clients{such as security mods}]).

A lot of people seem to not know what goals exist before the stretch goals.
I've had to post this quite a bit on the Steam forums, so might as well add it here as well.
Since so many seem to not know what is planned, and what they've bought into:Here are The Fun Pimps goals for 7 Days To Die as outlined, paid for, and promised on Kickstarter.
All of these should eventually make it into the game at some point, hopefully. Although there may be some delay compared to the original May 2014 date that was claimed.
Source for the delay comment since it doesn't appear anywhere official: http://www.quartertothree.com/fp/2014/01/13/creators-7-days-die-explain-make-friendlier-zombie-apocalypse/
We’re making an ambitious game and our original Kickstarter estimates had us finishing in May 2014, but realistically it could take the rest of this year. That said, I think we’ll be close to beta by this summer but we won’t punish our Settler Kickstarter backers so we’ll send them keys near the time frame promised. After launch, supporting the best workshop mods, making DLC, and maybe even console ports are all possibilities, but we’ll just have to see where this great journey leads us.All goals including the $500,000 were unlocked.

All Food and water items have a purity level the higher the purity level. The higher the health and stamina benefits. Improve crafting to make better items. Improve cooking to make purer food and water.
Stealth and Distraction System - Crouch and sneak your way past enemies or throw objects to distract them. Find or craft sight, sound or smell deterrents and attractor recipes and items to exploit the sight, hearing or smell of the zombies to throw them off track.
