Numerous crashes, nothing seems to work

Hello!

After reading through different posts about similar crashes, and trying a lot of different things, I still cant resolve my issue. I will do my best to describe it:

The problem

- Whenever I start a fresh game, after some time, the game crashes. I tried multiple fresh games, both MP and SP. All games i started were on Navezgane. Sometimes I get an error message saying an error occured with paging a file, sometimes I don't get an error message at all and the game simply closes. I am unable to restart the same world, it gives the "Out of memory exception".

This does not happen if I play on a world hosted by someone else

What I have tried

- Run in 32 bit and without EAC (both by unticking it in the launcher and starting directly from the directory)

- Have nothing running but 7d2d and steam

- Run the game offline

- Clean reinstall (also in combination of deleting all player profiles)

- Start 7d2d in 64 bit, close the program, start again in 32 bit

- Start 7d2d in 32 bit, close the program, start again in 64 bit

- Update graphic driver

- Set the appropiate paging file size manually

Specs:

i3-3220 3.30 GHz

GeForce GTX 650

8GB of RAM

Thanks a lot for having a look, I love this game but it sucks that I can't play it atm

For starters, you are basically at the minimum requirements to play. There are basically 3 levels of requirements.

Minimum, Minimum recommended, and Recommended. Truly only two are listed, but there used to be three, and not sure why the middle was taken out.

  • MINIMUM:
This is the least you can play with. It is going to suck though with everything on minimum settings and probably 32-bit only.
    • OS: WindowsXP (Service Pack 3)
    • Processor: 2.4 Ghz Dual Core CPU
    • Memory: 6 GB RAM
    • Graphics: 1 GB Dedicated Memory

  • MINIMUM RECOMMENDED:
This is the least recommended for a halfway decent experience.
    • OS: Windows 7 or higher
    • Processor: 3.0 Ghz Quad Core CPU or faster
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: 2 GB Dedicated Memory

  • RECOMMENDED:
This is what you want for a good experience with the game.
    • OS: Windows 7 or higher
    • Processor: 3.0 Ghz Quad Core CPU or faster
    • Memory: 12 GB RAM
    • Graphics: 2 GB Dedicated Memory

You could be at Min Recommended, but your GPU is crap. (No offense meant, it's just way too old.)

Before I delve into the logs, I will say that you absolutely must use no shadows, no reflections, no UMA, no extra features like SSAO or SunShafts. I'd have Grass set to near, and LOD around 50% and View Distance below 8. This selection is partially due to the lack of optimized features, and due to the limited capabilities of your system.

Now for the logs.

1. Disable UNET. It's crap atm. a17 may change that, but for now it's complete trash. (It's a Unity network traffic handler.)

2. The Out of Memory error in the first two logs looks like a GPU driver issue, but there are a couple of other things. Tips on this later.

3. The third log truly runs out of memory. It's VRAM, not system ram though. Your GPU is your weakest link here.

Fourth, Sixth, and Eigth log is #2.

Fifth log is nothing. Open and close client.

Seventh log looks like a hard crash. Would need the crash dump log to see what happened there.

The fix. Buy a new GPU. Seriously I don't recommend anything less than a 660Ti to play, and you've got a 650.

However if that isn't an option, here are some steps that may get you going.

First, perform a clean installation of the GPU driver. I know you said you updated it, but that's not enough.

  1. Download the latest driver package.
  2. Right-click the installer and choose "Run as Administrator".
  3. When you are given the option, choose "Custom (Advanced)" installation option.
  4. Un-tick everything except the Graphics Driver and PhysX System Software.
  5. After complete, reboot.

Second, follow this guide to be certain your client is fully excluded.

Lastly, before you start to play, close every other program. Chrome, Firefox, any background apps you aren't using. You don't have the overhead to be able to run that while also running the game.

Thanks a bunch! Yeah I know my GPU is crap, and I'm looking for a replacement.

The thing is, since the game runs quite smoothly if it does (be it on the most minimum settings possible), so I thought there might be a fix. Thanks for your advice again, if it works it works, if it doesn't I'll wait for my next paycheck ^^

So after going through those steps, the game tried to load, and didn´t give the "out of memory exception error". It did however crash and gave me the following error:

https://pastebin.com/uy2VRbPg

https://pastebin.com/ML2X299e

Its a bit sad that this just started since a few days, but I guess it can't be helped. Are those logs worth anything or is a new GPU the only real solution?

Wups, made a double, quoting myself with the update ^^
