arramus
Backpacker Challenge can be downloaded here: https://github.com/arramus/V1.0-BackpackerChallenge (Click on the Green 'Code' icon and select 'Download ZIP') https://www.nexusmods.com/7daystodie/mods/4972 (Requires a log in, but useful for custom modpack creation) This modlet is 'Server Side Only' friendly and only needs to be installed on the server or client host. Joiners do not need to have it installed. About Backpacker Challenge allows our streamers, party players, and lone wolves to play by a simple set of predetermined rules. It is a very small modlet that limits player crafting to only the recipes we can create on our persons/backpacks. The Chemistry Table, regular Workbench, Forge, and Cement Mixer have been stripped of all of their recipes. However, there is a Backpacker Workbench without any of the 'advanced recipes' than can be acquired from the trader, or crafted in the Backpack. It only allows player crafting items, but will provide that additional crafting workstation when required. Other Workstations are still given as Quest rewards or can purchased through the trader inventory, but serve no real use beyond salvaging or selling. RULES: - Crafting restricted to backpack and campfire recipes only which includes crafting a Backpacker Workbench - Purchase, loot, or accept rewards for more advanced gear - Sell or salvage the Chemistry Table, Cement Mixer, and Forge if you acquire one, unless you need an oversized paperweight This style of challenge has been around throughout the long history of 7D2D in different guises forever. 'No Crafting' type challenges can be incredibly purist, or add token gesture exceptions. The Backpack Challenge is more forgiving with what it offers, but the rules are fixed and set, simply because of how the mod has stripped down the recipes. Here are a few images to demonstrate: Complete the initial tutorial quest line and be directed to the first Trader. The message welcomes players to the Backpacker Challenge and hints at the limited crafting capability. Unlock and craft your Backpacker Workbench. When placed, it will complete the Workbench quest but it offers a very restricted crafting environment for only player backpack recipes. The recipe choice is no different to what we can craft from our backpack. The Cement Mixer, Chemistry Table, and Forge are no better than a glorified paperweight. They can be sold or wrenched for parts if acquired. You may be surprised how much you have access to from player crafting and the campfire. All the best if you accept this relatively mellow restricted crafting challenge. SnowBee
Hi Arramus, does the Backpacker Challenge mod not require an update for v1.1 of the game?
arramus
I double checked that everything remains compatible, and everything checks out. However, I removed any reference to V1.0 and replaced it with V1 both inside the Mod and on this forum thread. It will keep that side generic and future compatible. Even players on V1.0 will still be able to use it. While at it, I brought back the small message we see when first spawning into the World at a start point, and a slightly revised message we receive when being directed to the first trader to mention that some challenges are not compatible. It's all good to go for any version of V1 from initial game release to now.
LittleRedSonja
It looks very interesting arramus! Have you considered expanding this into sort of a "nomad style" mod? I usually like nomad plays in other games, where you do not have a permanent base, you can only carry around whet you can stuff in your backpack (and perhaps a very small contained on your camp) and whatnot. In any case very nice idea, thank you for sharing it 💜
arramus
It's a great concept for sure, and keeps that on the road style of game play. I've been watching how IDC's 'The Nomad' crafting capable vehicle mod has been developing and it's becoming quite a sophisticated alternative to static base game play. It's getting the downloads so there's certainly a lot of interest out there.
