Why is it so easy for you and others to believe that 7 Days to Die will actually be Beta despite the 1.0 numbering system and yet it is so hard for you to believe that 7 Days to Die was essentially Beta during Alpha 20 and 21 (and this past year’s worth of development nobody has played yet) despite alpha numbering system?

Since Alpha 20 the devs have caught a lot of flack for not adding significant new content and instead just adding art, improving visuals, polishing and finalizing current systems, ignoring the end game, and working on optimizations. During Alpha 18 Madmole stated that their focus would not be on the types of things veterans of the game would want (expansionary content) but on what would make the game look and play well for new players. What does that sound like if not beta?

So it’s not that Beta stage got skipped. It’s that they never officially changed the numbering system. The true numbering system that fully reflects the development how it has gone would have been:

    Alpha 1-17  (A1-17)

    Alpha/Beta Hybrid 1-2   (A18-19)

    Beta 1-2 (A20-21)

    Beta/Gold Hybrid 1-3 (1.0-whatever)

    Gold (End of roadmap)

In any case, it’s clear TFP hasn’t been, isn’t, and won’t be following a traditional development model regardless of the numbering system. Hopefully for their next game they will simply avoid any numbering system that references alpha and beta since people obviously fixate on the narrowest of definitions in order to either defend or criticize.

So yeah, 1.0 is going to feel very beta-like just like alphas 18 and 19 felt somewhat beta-like and alphas 20 and 21 felt very beta-like. The devs clearly stated that the 1.0 tag is not a claim that the game is finished. It’s just the beginning of a new numbering system, exit from early access, and price change.

Ah, as the great Adam Savage said: 'I refuse your reality, and substitute my own!'

I'm sorry, but the game wasn't in beta from A18-19 onward. Development limbo (or hell) isn't equal to the traditional beta-fase during development.

Every new update for Windows, MacOS and Linux is released at the same time in Steam. So will 1.0 be.

    Welcome to the forums !

Are you doing a party with @DaVegaNL again, talking about hard rock and stuff ?

    No invitation, huh ?

Ohhh, like the good old times!

    You still remember me :)

    'Wandering sleepers'?

That describes me pretty well on monday mornings..

More changes for RWG coming in 1.0:

RWG highway generation uses a new algorithm.
RWG highway generation allows double connections between towns.
Added RWG big cities can have two gateways per side.
Added RWG big cities generate a highway bypass ring.

This is a 10k, many towns with 30% wasteland. Generated in 1 minute, 12 seconds. Has 4 of the new big cities.

Awesome! Is the burned forest making a comeback"?

  4. The trailer itself is quite nice though.

Of course, it's not at all what's in the game itself, but it's a nice fantasy!

Putting 'Gameplay' in the title doesn't make it so..

    Well, The Fun Pimps do.

I don't understand all this bickering over the teaser video... the new version is either like that, or not.

@faatal: could you please confirm if we can expect (at least) a similar video quality in 1.0 or not?

If it's all done in post-processing in a video editor, that's fine. It's just silly to keep arguing over something you can easily clarify, isn't it?

    Cheers :yo:

You can't claim something to be 'gameplay', if it's not in-game.
They could've just called it 'trailer', or something like that.

I mean, I wouldn't really go so far as to call it false advertisement, but it's on par with fastfood restaurants showing their burgers in commercials.

I find a lot of people completely ignore most of the important settings when they are setting up their save game to play it. As a result, they end up leaving it open, and any bad agent could get in and cause them trouble. You hear about them every now and again and get to explain to them how to change the settings that are literally right there when they are starting up their save.

Truly though, the responsibility lies on the end user. The game is likely played by the majority in a co-op setting with people who pay attention to the settings they are configuring. As such, the default settings are just fine for most people. Which is very likely why they are the defaults.

'The responsibility lies on the end user.'

Well.. No. That's not how it works.

Just curious, but where does it say TFP would be selling the outfit DLCs?  I'm not saying they will or will not, I'm asking where the information was posted that they WILL be paid DLC.

As far as I know on the roadmap under the section with the 2nd update.

If they're not selling the DLC.. Then it would just be an update. Why would they call it a DLC?

Making them announce 1.0 might be for a corporate reasons, consoles have finished products sold with dlc released after that further in time.

Having an early access version of this kind of game could bring uncertainties in console game community, or could be forbidden by rules. I think it is sort of a solution of what we have as situation here by renaming EA, Alpha to 1.0.

For me it is just words changing, not the further development of the game or the experience that we will have in 7 days to die ;)

Nah don't worry mate! I like the smell of wet dog! Better than diapers to be honest..

  8. Well.. Yeah. Many games have cosmetic DLC's. That's pretty common, and indeed, if you don't want them, don't buy them.

What is not common is for those games to be rushed out of Alpha, make some vague statements about Alpha game-features to come, and start selling those cosmetic DLC's off the bat.

Which would be bad enough on it's own, but when that's coupled with a doubling of the price of the game? That smells like trouble. Or teen-spirit!

  9. The roadmap states the release of 3 major updates in the timespan of 1,5 years.

This is the time they usually spend on a single update (whether that's a major one is up for debate).

So, forgive me for being a teeny-tiny bit skeptical.

    Also; cosmetic DLC's? Yaiks.

  10. Rocks are only as good as the person licking them!

    Or something like that ^-^

Thanks! I've been lurking for a long time, life got in the way the last couple of years.

  11. Thanks, probably not geologically correct, but its all for gameplay.

Don't worry, I'll forgive you ^^ the smoothing works as in real life..

Speaking about geology; have you thought about adding different kinds of rivers? Or perhaps desert mesas? You already habe impact craters if i recall..

    Maybe some fjords?

  12. Thanks for the answer, but I still can't get it to work :( Do you need to have the fishing pole equiped? Basically nothing happens when I right (or left) click a water block with the worms in my inventory and my fishing pole equipped.

    A14.7 is out btw :)
